If you eat 800 calories per day do you lose weight even if it's shit food?

Things like sausage rolls, scotch eggs, a bit of cheese and pickle etc? Just nibbles? It's not healthy or nutritional granted, but... for weight loss alone?

If you don't eat as many calories as you need per day for an extended period, then yes, you will lose weight. You can lose it faster or slower depending on what you choose to eat.

Why are you asking?

Bigpaintinglittlepainting · 05/01/2021 19:57

You will lose weight if you are in a calorie deficit. The problem with that is that it will not make you feel full for long.

On a low calorie day I will eat efficiently, so oats, protein and lots of veg to fill you up.

Cheese is very high in calories but doesn’t fill me up for long !

MerryChristmasToYou · 05/01/2021 19:58

Why don't you eat the same number of calories in nutritious food instead?

I think 800 cals would be something like 2 sausage rolls or 2.5 scotch eggs, which doesn't sound like enough food for a day.

WhateverTheySay · 05/01/2021 20:05

Oh good. I'm going through a lot of stress at the minute and am unable to eat much, can't face preparing meals or thinking about food so I'm just wolfing down the odd bite size etc without thinking about it. As someone who was previously a carb addict I'm hoping back to a size 10 soon will be the silver lining!

OP posts:
Eckhart · 05/01/2021 20:14

That's really unhealthy, OP. And those things have a lot of carbs anyway.

If you want to be low carb and can't be arsed to 'do' food, get some cold meats in, cheese, hard boil 12 eggs in one go, some olives, and a few bits of fruit.

ComDummings · 05/01/2021 20:16

Yes. It’s not healthy but you’ll lose weight. Please make sure you take vitamin supplements at the very least.

Palavah · 05/01/2021 20:16

You'll lose lean muscle, probably spend the day hungry, have shit skin and might be bloated too.

If you don't have much appetite then try to eat small portions of nutritionally dense foods.

WhateverTheySay · 05/01/2021 20:16

@eckhart thank you that's a good idea maybe some cucumber and carrot sticks too x

Yes. It’s call the shit food diet.

Not actually, that’s what my friends and I called it in our twenties.

Would recommend a good multi vitamin and don’t do it for long as it’s so bad for your health and also your skin, hair etc.

Gunpowder · 05/01/2021 20:16

*called

BarryWhiteIsMyBrother · 05/01/2021 20:17

I hard boil half a dozen eggs at once and snack on those. Easy and nutritious. As a PP said, packs of chicken or turkey bites are also a good option. So is fruit.

MerryChristmasToYou · 05/01/2021 20:18

You'd be better off eating a couple of boiled eggs with a salad than eating the things on your list.

LobotheBotanist · 05/01/2021 20:18

You need good nutrients though, healthy nutritious stuff

Quality of food is important to your health

There are easy/quick healthy foods (fruit (fresh/tinned/dried), nuts, humour, tins of veggie chilli, baked potato, ham and tomato sandwich Grin)

You deserve better food. Sausage rolls are just such junk

Eckhart · 05/01/2021 20:18

Olives?

chimpandzee · 05/01/2021 20:18

yes because it's calories that matter but long term i would think restricting your calories to that extent messes up your metabolism and could have the opposite effect whether it''s shit food or not

Singlenotsingle · 05/01/2021 20:20

Yes of course you will. I've just discovered that if I don't eat lunch but have a nibble instead during the afternoon (a couple of toffees and a piece of fruit, or crisps) I can lose weight.

Eckhart · 05/01/2021 20:20

@LobotheBotanist

nuts, humour, tins of veggie chilli

Your typo made me laugh Grin I wish they were selling it in the shops. MN would be a happier place, and it might help OP feel better too!

WhateverTheySay · 05/01/2021 20:25

Yes I would love a tin of humour!! :-)

OP posts:
EssentialHummus · 05/01/2021 20:26

Yes. It's harder to stick to though, as it's generally food that doesn't keep you full for long.

WhateverTheySay · 05/01/2021 20:30

I have some walnuts in the cupboard think I'll dust those down and buy some Greek yoghurt too. Oooo I can't wait to pull those jeans on!!

OP posts:
MistleTOEboughski · 05/01/2021 20:31

The less you eat the more likely you are to miss out some important nutrients. If it's down to stress at least make sure you have a good multivitamin and mineral supplement and try to eat as healthy as you can.

WhateverTheySay · 05/01/2021 20:32

Can anyone recommend any good vitamins I never usually take tablets? Always seems like a bad idea but I guess Holland and Barratt would be a good start? I'm sure I'll be a fat fuck again one day but no time soon

OP posts:
MerryChristmasToYou · 05/01/2021 20:40

I take Aldi A-Z multi-vit multi-min.
I eat lots of veg, but not much fruit.

The trouble with a very low calorie diet is that you don't change your eating habits long term.

If you swap veg for carbs, your blood sugar will be steadier, so you'll be less inclined to nibble. I try to eat something that looks like a meal, not a snack.
A sausage roll eaten from your hand sitting on the sofa isn't the same as a sausage roll eaten from a plate with salad at a table.

grassisjeweled · 05/01/2021 20:41

Yup. You could eat 4 mars bars a day and lose weight.

Lemonpiano · 05/01/2021 20:44

Be careful you don't end up malnourished and with gallstones. Rapid weight loss can fuck your gallbladder up.
