Breakfasts under 250/300 calories

I’m really struggling with filling breakfasts on low cals. Cereal doesn’t cut it even with yogurt and fruit. Can anyone suggest some filing things to eat at breakfast time that won’t leave me starving 2 hours later. I’m only wanting to eat 4 eggs a week. Any ideas welcome.

I’m no help but would like to know ....

Porridge - made with oats or with brown rice flakes.

Baked beans - I have a snap pot on toast.

A sandwich made with a slice of wholemeal rye bread, a slice of ham, perhaps a gherkin or cheese. Doesn't sound like much but wholemeal rye is extremely filling and those slices are big!

Bacon with wilted spinach, broccoli, mushrooms etc, with or without toast.

Continental cold meats - salami, Parma ham etc again with or without bread.

A bowl of instant miso soup with spinach thrown in plus half a baked sweet potato. Maybe throw in some tofu, too?

I really need protein in the morning so it's usually eggs for me which I know doesn't answer your question... Sometimes I have leftovers (homemade chicken nuggets, lentil soup) or tins of fish (sauteed cockles) Blush. I am a morning person and work a long shift so I need to have a big breakfast.

Why are you restricting eggs?

Smoked salmon with cucmber sticks.
Ham and tomatoes
cottage cheese with a seed sprinkle
Decent seedy bread toasted with marmite and cottage cheese, OR a slice of cheddar and pickle OR sauteed mushrooms
Greek yoghurt and low sugar granola
Avocado and crispy bacon

A frequent breakfast of mine is two veggie/chicken sausages with 100grams baked beans, loads of spinach and mushrooms - salt, pepper, and zero calorie ketchup. Sometimes a slice of whole grain toast too - it's delicious!

thenightsky · 21/06/2019 18:49

I find two big mugs of milky tea fills me up and saves calories till lunchtime.

VolcanionSteamArtillery · 21/06/2019 18:50

100g each of Tomatoes, mushrooms spinach dry fried with 3 slices of chorizo

1/2 tin grilled sardines (on toast with tomatoes and maybe a poached egg.

Two slices of toast (50/50 presliced about 79 cals a slice) with marmite or peanut butter. If you can be bothered try pb peanut butter powder.

One egg scrambled (in microwave) in wrap (tesco do a tortilla wrap in the ethnic food bit that comes in about 110cals) with a little bit of cheese and milk and tomato and salad. Chicken in wrap. (Preroast/preslowcook a whole chicken portion and bung in freezer)

Mushrooms on toast.

Porridge with berries, apple and cinnamon.

Bacon medallions in a sandwich

Fibbke · 21/06/2019 18:53

A thickish slice of Cranks organic wholemeal bread with no sugar peanut butter. Keeps me full until lunch.

countdowntonap · 21/06/2019 18:58

Came on to say my daily breakfast is two eggs and broccoli, but have seen your 4 egg limit. Why is that?

Ricekrispie22 · 21/06/2019 19:07

4 rice cakes (or 3 pikelets) each topped with a tablespoon of fat free flavoured yogurt and berries

2 Rankin Irish potato cakes (heated) spread with Philadelphia Lightest and dry-fried mushrooms and thyme

CCquavers · 21/06/2019 22:11

Wow lots of ideas that I hadn’t even thought of. I have a cupboard full of beans and I like veg sausage for protein. I think protein is what helps me to forget about food until lunch.

To answer a couple of posters question I'm restricting eggs because more than 4 a week can contribute to high Cholesterol along with an abundance of prawns. I would like to know how that compares to eating say lots of high fat sugary food but haven’t done my research yet.

The egg-cholesterol link has been debunked, Eat as many eggs as you like.

user87382294757 · 03/07/2019 09:35

I like Fage zero greek yoghurt and fruit, it is low calorie and high in protein (and yummy)

vickibee · 03/07/2019 09:37

overnight oats with fruit - berries or banana

edgeofheaven · 03/07/2019 09:48

I've had a small experiment with intermittent fasting and skipping breakfast. Although I'm not sticking with it for other reasons, I have learned that eating anything, healthy or not, activates my appetite and makes me hungry again in a few hours. So I find it easier now to just delay breakfast for as long as possible. I wake around 6:30/7 and only have hot water/coffee/tea until 10 at the very earliest. Eat something small at 10 and then can have a filling lunch at 1.

This advice changed in 2000. That's 19 years ago.

I eat eggs for breast fast most mornings. Scrambled or an omelette with veggies in it.

jelly79 · 28/07/2019 08:27

2 eggs and spinach (eggs don't need to be restricted)

Chia pudding (2tbsp chia seeds, 2 tbs fage greek yoghurt, cup almond milk) leave over night to set and top with fruit

Laura221 · 28/07/2019 17:19

I have a slice of toast with a little marg and marmite. Very low cal you could probably have 2 slices of that and only just be over 200 cals.

AuntieMarys · 28/07/2019 17:21

I have poached eggs or porridge with cinnamon every day.

Ivich · 30/07/2019 10:59

Skip all the bread stuff though. If you just focus on low calories you will end up eating something that doesn't fill you up at all. make sure to eat plenty of fiber!

Yeahsurewhatever · 31/07/2019 09:31

Two Weetabix and a bit of semi skimmed milk

A protein bar

Protein shakes

Blankiefan · 08/09/2019 06:33

My overnight oats recipe comes in exactly on 300 cals and is super filling.

100g raspberries
40g oats
150g fat free Skyr (I use Arla Pouring Skyr)

Huge portion and good protein from the skyr and fibre from the raspberries.

Only problem is remembering to make it at night!!

Mincepies76 · 11/09/2019 23:17

Belvitas. They keep me going and are about 220 cals.

Auberjean · 11/11/2019 23:45

I have to manage cholesterol and eggs are definitely ok.

Linda McCartney rosemary and onion sausages.

Yes to rye bread or heavy wholemeal. Or sourdough.

I often do a concoction of OST's,fruit and yogurt. Cooked or raw.

Muckycat · 07/01/2020 21:37

Low fat yogurt mixed with cocoa powder, chia seeds and frozen cherries. It's filling as the frozen cherries take time to eat and tastes like black forest gateau!
