I've finally started to lose weight with MFP. I can feel the self sabotage coming on! Stern words please!

I need to lose 10kg to get back to within a healthy weight for my height. I've gone from a 12 to a 16 in 5 years and I hate it. I'm 52 menopausal and take hrt.

I have been logging 1200cals a day on mfp and as long as i stay busy its been ok. Ive lost 2kg. I'm so delighted to be finally losing I can feel a mild food obsession coming on, trying to work out how to eat more, whether to have a piece of toast, whether just to have a piece of cake or a larger portion and not log it.

I really need to lose this weight for my health and self esteem!

Any stern words welcome!

Don't sabotage it. That delight you're feeling will quickly turn to frustration and disappointment if you go off track now. Keep logging everything, keep eating sensibly and keep plodding on. You can do this. Only you. Good luck.

Thank you!

If you cheat you’re only cheating yourself
Don’t make all the effort and hard work pointless now
You’re doing so well - look at the bigger picture and KEEP GOING!

myidentitymycrisis · 25/02/2019 10:00

Try to keep busy if that is what has helped you so far.
I found that when giving up smoking; identify the times you start to think about that extra bit of food and put a strategy in place to fill it.

ACurlyWurly · 25/02/2019 10:00

Adjust your calories to 1400, you will still lose weight a little slower but it is more sustainable. It feels less restrictive and I rarely hit the full 1400. I have the occasional 2000 calorie day (just be sure to make them the exception and not the norm) when I just think sod it but overall you are below your recommended intake and it wont throw you off the rails completely. Just look at each new day as it comes, yesterday is over!
If it helps I went oreo crazy yesterday and went to 1779 calories on my 1400 allowance, today I should come in at 1290.

Fazackerley · 25/02/2019 10:04

I will adjust to 1400 once I've lost 6kg.

Or I might do 1400 at the weekend

OP posts:
ACurlyWurly · 25/02/2019 10:17

1400 at weekends would be good to give you a bit of leeway.

ACurlyWurly · 25/02/2019 10:19

i have 13.5kg to lose have lost 2.7 so far.....

Fazackerley · 25/02/2019 10:49

13.5 kg would be my perfect loss curly. 10kg is my first and main goal.

You can either stick to it now or get bigger and have to do this in a few months larger than you are now, choice is yours?

Losing weight isn’t easy and you do get use to eating less the longer you do it, it’s just a shock to your stomach at first

Add an extra 100 calories per day and use it on massive piles of extra veg at dinner, broccoli and carrots are excellent choices

Pots of no sugar jelly can fill a whole too and at 10 calls or under a pot you can’t go wrong

DistressedAndWorried7845 · 25/02/2019 11:02

Congratulations on finding something that works for you!

Play it through your mind like a video. You cut the slice of cake, plate it up, sit down, eat it, then how do you feel afterwards? Not great usually, right?

Keep on trucking op!! Flowers

pinkheart I could see myself getting bigger and bigger and it scared me. I've stuck to 300 cals this morning and have a 400 cal lunch planned. That gives me 500 for dinner which I don't normally use up, giving me a 150 cup of hot milk and honey I'm the evening. I'm not drinking at the moment either. My plan was to stick at it for 4 weeks and see what happened, but I can see the weight shifting after 10 days which has been a nice boost.

Do not have the junk food in your house! Don't allow it to be an option. Flowers[coffee]

If you fall off the wagon and then don't get back on. In a month you will have gained it back. How would you feel then?

That's what I always think of. How will I feel in a month of is tick to it. How will i feel in a month if a i don't?

Fazackerley · 27/02/2019 06:56

Thanks. I'm sticking to it. I went over yesterday because I cooked lentil shepherds pie and had some before i worked out the calories. Really hoping it works.

Had a slice of wholemeal toast with whole earth peanut butter and half a banana for breakfast yesterday and it kept me feeling full until 1.30! This is why I can't do no carbs!

Go on Pinterest and start planning a summer wardrobe with some nice new clothes you’ll feel great wearing when you hit your goal!

FamilyOfAliens · 27/02/2019 07:33

Good luck, OP, I couldn’t do 1200 cals.

I’ve lost 3st 4 lb on MFP since April 2018 but I’m on 1560 cals. I knew it would take a long time but I’m a bit older than you and I wanted it to stay off forever.

Keep at it - I feel amazing and I love the clothes I can wear now. And I have a waist!

Fazackerley · 27/02/2019 07:48

Thank you, this is really helping! familyofaliens I am not intending to do 1200 forever but I need a kick start. I've got to get out of the 12 stones, it's unhealthy and I feel gross. Also we are about to go through a period of less disposable income, so I think dieting is free and will have the most impact on my self esteem without having to spend money!

Anyone share tips on using My Fitness Pal? I downloaded the free app and have found it good for packet things that I can scan but how do you quickly add in things like a banana or veg? Do you have to weigh everything?

Fazackerley · 27/02/2019 18:34

Yes you weigh everything. Gradually you build up a long list of things that you eat. Weighing everything is quite important actually because it's surprising how easy it is to eat lots more than you think.

How are you doing?
I've lost 8lb or 3.6kg now. It was hard this weekend but I'm sticking to it!
I finally broke into the 12s from 13st 7 to 12st 13lb. That was my first goal. Now working towards 12st 7. It will be a hard March as I have lots of celebrations this month all of which include meals out! And April starts with a trip away but slow and steady

Fazackerley · 04/03/2019 12:02

Had a couple of days off. Back on it today! Have lost 3.1kg since I started! Hoping to lose another kg in the next 10 days.
