Just saw a bunch of kids beating a girl

I feel awful, I should have stopped, but then, what would I have done? I was with my little one on her scooter, there were other adults on the place and everybody seemed to find it 'normal'. It was in the middle of the street, in Southfields, a bunch of school kids (red jumpers uniforms) were beating (not hardly, but she was on the floor and seemed very sad) a girl. They'd all be around 13ish. Crazy. I grabbed my girl and walked faster, as I felt that maybe if I said something, they would come for us. They'd be around 15 kids. Again, what shocks me most is that NOBODY was doing anything! And there were lots of people in the street!

Is Southfields a really rough place or is this normal in secondary schools in London? :-S

Nobody did anything, including YOU! Sad

You could have called the police.

overmydeadbody · 01/11/2010 18:11

You know, research had proven that the more 'witnesses' there are to an event or accident, the less likely any one individual is going to step in and help. It is pathetic.

SkippyjonJones · 01/11/2010 18:11

You didn't do anything ???? Sad

Mamumu · 01/11/2010 18:12

I don't know if this is normal here, I felt that the police wouldn't have taken me very seriously. Plus, I had no battery. But you're right, I should have done something. I already said I feel bad.

I don't see how you can be shocked at people doing nothing when it is exactly what you did.

booyhoo · 01/11/2010 18:13

you were part of the nobody who did anything!!! you are as responsible as all those other people.

i hope it didn't go on much longer after you saw it and i hope she is ok.

SkippyjonJones · 01/11/2010 18:13

The Police would have taken you seriously. You can still phone and tell them the uniform etc.

Did you phone the police non-emergency number and report it as antisocial behaviour?
Do you plan on identifying the school and phoning them?
Nobody does anything, no one gets involved or challenges the children's right to be aggressive so it continues and escalates.

Coca · 01/11/2010 18:15

You didn't want advice you wanted us to tell you that we would have done the same.

Mamumu · 01/11/2010 18:15

Because there were plenty of people there who didn't have to look after a 3 year old!

Because I didn't have my mobile on!

d'oh!!! >:-S

Agree with others and no, it is not indictaive of schools in London. Bullying goes on everywhere.

I can see why you may have been worried for your child, but you could have at least called the police when you got home.

Poor girl.

Mamumu, stop feeling sorry for yourself and get on the phone to the police. FGS.

DwpAnxt · 01/11/2010 18:16

I can see why you wouldnt want to intervene with your LO in tow - but not to phone the police? Or the school? Sounds like the Southfield school for girls uniform.
Did you go back to see if the child was okay?

booyhoo · 01/11/2010 18:16

at school a friend got assaulted by a group of girls from another school, she was pulled backwards off the bus by her hair (lots of it was pulled out). the bus driver did nothing, no otehr witnesses did anything and to top it all off our vice priciple witnessed it and did nothing to stop it. that hurt her far more than the bruises and scars of the attack.

Mamumu · 01/11/2010 18:16

no coca, I wanted advice, no everybody jumping on my neck.

Anyway, I hope that makes you feel better. Of course, you would have left your little one behind and help the girl... you're supermum. Bravo.

I'm off here.

Op you have been given advice. PHONE THE POLICE!!!

Goblinchild · 01/11/2010 18:18

How does advising you to phone the police or the school endanger your child?
