Just saw a bunch of kids beating a girl

I feel awful, I should have stopped, but then, what would I have done? I was with my little one on her scooter, there were other adults on the place and everybody seemed to find it 'normal'. It was in the middle of the street, in Southfields, a bunch of school kids (red jumpers uniforms) were beating (not hardly, but she was on the floor and seemed very sad) a girl. They'd all be around 13ish. Crazy. I grabbed my girl and walked faster, as I felt that maybe if I said something, they would come for us. They'd be around 15 kids. Again, what shocks me most is that NOBODY was doing anything! And there were lots of people in the street!

Is Southfields a really rough place or is this normal in secondary schools in London? :-S

Oh come on, you are all too harsh on her, she was shoked and her instinct told her to protect her dd. She is new in the aera as well, give her a break, no needas to be mean.

summerfruit i think she lost the sympathy when she judged the other people who didn't act either.

I could call her the school for her but I need more details, time ? Where did it take place ?

I can see why you didn't intervene with a 3 yr old in tow, but can't for the life of me work out why you didn't switch your mobile on and PHONE THE POLICE when you were at a safe distance????

Jeez.

Were you expecting some sympathy? Hmm

I too am shocked that NOBODY did anything.

NOBODY called the police.

NOBODY firmly shouted "LEAVE HER ALONE!"

NOBODY thought that might be thier daugher one day, go over to her and escort her home.

Because, everybody, like the OP had an excuse.

And these were 13 year old girls in uniform, not 20 year old drunked males.

I believe she may be talking bollocks about calling the police. Sorry but nobody manages to find a phone number, wait to get put through, report a crime and post on MN in two minutes. So zero sympathy from me I'm afraid.

It is really shit if nobody did anything, poor girl Sad, I'm going to put a message on the southfields.net, to see if anyone saw it and act.

you can phone the school and tell them what? that a group of children, you don' know who and nor do you have any sort of descriptions, were assaulting a girl, you dn't know who or have any sort of description.

it was off school grounds and out of school hours.

what exactly are teh school going to be able to do?

However had the OP shouted at them, it could have bought the incident to the attention of others, they too may have intervened. at the very least it would have stopped the assault.

let us just hope that you don't find out who the victim is when they deliver the Argus on thursday.

Mamumu, please come back !!

Was it Augustus road ?

Wimbledon Park road ?

Rephligam road ?

Sutherland grove ?

It is a crime and it needs to be reported.

And the time please ? I guess, it must have happened between 3 and 4 ?

Forgive me for the spelling !

i agree thebolter.

summerfruits i agree she felt scared and vulnerable, i bet that little girl was ten times more scared and was hoping an adult might step in. how let down she must be feeling. all OP had to do was go to a shop/ask another adult to call the police.

I never do this - mainly cos I cant be arsed - but I think this is a pile of balls.
It all reads in such a way that it can't fail to wind people up...building to the flounce by op, but I think this is an amateur wind-up merchant cos they've shot their load FAR too quickly.

OP is a regular poster, no reason to think she is trolling.

nottirednow, if they were all in tehir homes tehn it was not a group situation. they may have all presumed someone else had called the police whereas in teh OP's situation it was clear to everyone that no-one had done anything. completely different IMO.

Why are people so scared of groups of teenagers? I don't live in the best of areas and a while back I had trouble with a few teenage boys repeadly kicking my fence in.

They were hanging round on the corner on evening so I went out to them, about 6 15 year old boys, and basically I told them off in my best scary mummy voice, explained that they were scaring my children.

This bunch of 'hoodies' all looked very sheepish and apologized to me. They didn't swear or be aggressive. I haven't had any trouble since. And they even grunt the odd hello if we past in the street.

Too mnay people do nothing and that is why some kids think they can get away with such appauling behaviour.

OP, you could have very discretely phoned the police without putting yourself in an uncomfortable position.
