Formula on offer in B&M - how?

Katz · 04/02/2010 11:56

I had thought discounting infant formula was not allowed but obviously is www.hotukdeals.com/item/600911/heinz-big-900g-tub-of-infant-formul hotukdeals

Not debating formula v's breast just would have thought that 900g of formula for 69p would not be allowed.

Thedevilwearsprimark :

  1. the follow on is orange (I have just googled). The thread on the website described infant formula. Maybe the lid used to be purple, I don't know.
  1. I didn't post stats - just a link to the UK law
  1. You were rude
CrosswordGeek · 04/02/2010 15:17

I'm presuming that the milk she is talking about is this.

tiktok · 04/02/2010 15:21

DWP: the purple is the 'gentle' formulation, in 'infant' and 'follow on'.

So it looks like it is 'infant' after all.

No doubt you will wish to apologise for your unseemly chippiness

TheDevilWearsPrimark · 04/02/2010 15:22

britishonlinesupermarket.com/acatalog/Farleys_heinz_baby_milk.html

tiktok · 04/02/2010 15:25

It's Heinz not Farleys, DWP - Heinz took over the Farleys milks and rebranded the range.

Purple = 'gentle'. It is purple in 'infant' and 'follow on'. Thread decscribed 'infant' and 0-6 mths.

You are wrong.

Say sorry for making a mistake, won't you?

l39 · 04/02/2010 16:40

Have read the hotukdeals thread. The poster 'Elise' is presumably still using leeches to cure all her ailments, with her refusal to accept changes in medical advice.

PotPourri · 04/02/2010 16:48

Yes,it's farley's, the first milk it must be if it is 0-6 (otherwise must have been teh follow on milk and mistake made on the age). The hungry baby was green. Discontinued by Heinz, who bought Farley's, about 18 months ago with no notice and replaced with Heinz Nurture which was almost twice as expensive and took the formula from the cheapest on the market to the most expensive. It is still the most expensive one.

belgo · 04/02/2010 17:04

just reading those comments and interested in one of them, does having PCOS mean you cannot breastfeed?

tiktok · 04/02/2010 17:06

Check archives on this, belgo....it can be a factor for some women, yes, in building up a milk supply. Some mothers don't have an effect, though. There's no reason not to start bf, though and wrong to say women with PCOS 'can't' bf.

belgo · 04/02/2010 17:09

thank you tiktok

ChickensLoveMarmite · 04/02/2010 17:11

I did FF, and I would be wary of anything that cheap. Is it soon to be out of date, do you think? I'd be concerned at how 'stable' the nutrition would be IYSWIM.

I'll not bother to expect an apology from DevilWearsPrimark, shall I? For her rudeness to me, and her error in identifying the milk....

ilovemydogandmrobama · 04/02/2010 23:25

This thread is unbelievable. Read the Infant Formula Regulations. It is illegal to reduce the price, or market infant formula. It does not matter if it was a 'job lot'. It doesn't matter when it was bought.

The regulations are fairly transparent.

It doesn't matter what one's beliefs are about formula. The law doesn't care, and it's in black and white.

Casserole · 05/02/2010 00:02

ilovemydog:

  1. But they haven't reduced it. To reduce it you have to have previously sold it at a higher retail price.
  1. They're not marketing it either. This woman is, by posting the link, but the retailer isn't.
CrosswordGeek · 05/02/2010 00:55

They are selling it at a seriously reduced price to the RRP. 69p for something that costs £8? usually.

BertieBotts · 05/02/2010 05:25

On that Heinz website they have a little section for "special dietary requirement" milks and under "Vegetarian" they have their soya based formula! - Am I right in thinking this is VERY irresponsible, since soya based formula is not recommended to be used for infants except on prescription? Especially irresponsible marketing since Hipp have taken their vegetarian milk off the market.

tiktok · 05/02/2010 09:08

I'll explain again for casserole

The price is low as an inducement for a sale. This is illegal. It does not matter if the seller is a retailer or not. It is not like Debenhams having to obey the law on 'sale' or 'reduced' price by previously having a higher price.

I posted the link to the law before.

I don't think it is worth reporting an individual to trading standards, personally, and they would prob not do anything.

But it is, nevertheless, against the law to do what she is doing.

(Still waiting for my nice apol. from TheDevil )

tiktok · 05/02/2010 09:10

To clarify - the retailer is breaking the law. The individual posting the link is, too, but no one is going to chase her.

ruddynorah · 05/02/2010 09:15

yes, the pricing is part of the marketing. rather like aptamil price theirs high so it looks 'better.'

TheDevilWearsPrimark · 05/02/2010 12:06

Tiktok - well I won't apologise.

I am certain that the milk the OP on that forum is referring to is Farleys (i.e the old one in the new packaging)

Formula has a long shelf life and the rebranding was quite recent.

But I canny be arsed arguing about this.

MamaGoblin · 05/02/2010 12:25

Gracious comeback, TDWP!

Clearly this is Wrong, but like everyone else here (well, nearly everyone else) I can't see that contacting TS is going to do a whole lot of anything.

tiktok · 05/02/2010 12:31

Devil: here's the evidence why you were wrong (not being 'bothered to argue', notwithstanding):

  1. the description of the formula branding is that it is 'infant' and 'gentle' and 'purple'. That is consistent with current branding (rebranding took place 18 mths ago)
  1. there are two mentions of the age range of 0-6 mths
  1. in contrast, there is no suggestion (apart from yours) that the formula referred to is follow-on and no evidence that it is
  1. you rudely told me to read the thread (which I had done) and accused me of leaping in with stats (when I had not done - I offered a link so people could read the UK legislation
  1. you, for example, are a twat

Case closed, my lord. Next!

TheDevilWearsPrimark · 05/02/2010 12:36

Blimey a vehement argument on here, when (apologies if they have) nobody has bothered to check for themselves, or even ask on the hot deals thread.

I will not apologise, and frankly your snide know it all attitude pisses me off (often).

I feel brave enough to say this as I'm about to swan off for the weekend and the potential love of my life is meeting me at the station to say goodbye.

And, no I won't apologise for that smugness.

I will however remind myself yet again to step away from the breast/ bottle topic.

tiktok · 05/02/2010 12:40

Not 'vehement', but light-hearted, devil!

You clearly have a Big Chip on your shoulder, but that is not my fault. Good advice to yourself, there, to step away - v. sensible!

Enjoy your weekend
