one handed typing only

i need a wee but i have not yet recovered from the wailing that ensued when i dared to put her down long enough to make myself a butty and refill my water bottle

not looking forward to tonight... last time she did this she woke 5 or 6 times a night for a feed instead of the usual one or two

can anyone enlighten me as to the usual ages for growth spurts? when will they stop?

dd2 is 18 weeks old. not many left now, surely?

LittlePushka · 25/01/2010 22:37

My DS1 is 3.4 years old...still waiting for him to have one!! Is tiny. DS2 1.10 still waiting for his to stop.

So my guess is you could be waiting a while... keep on goin'!!

bratnav · 25/01/2010 23:05

Oh, DS is 21 weeks. Maybe weaning will help?

MrsVidic · 26/01/2010 09:33

Bratnav- my dd is 6 months and is being weaned- it just makes things harder- trust me.

On top of feeding- you will also be preparing baby food (as your DC will be too young for BLW) cleaning upo after feeding time- which was 100% more than I expected - my DD has a good arm

On a good note it looks like my DD is putting loads of weight on so whe should be back to normal soon. She keeps bringing a little milk up after some feeds though- so now my washing has increased.

Last night was goo though- she went down at 7- awake and settled herself. Stirred at 4.30 but we only fed and woke up at 5.30 which I can live with!

How was everyones nights?

TigerFeet · 26/01/2010 10:15

Morning!

DD2 slept much better than I anticipated, but barring the school run she's been latched on pretty much constantly since 8 o'clock. She took a bit of getting to sleep but finally went off at about 9ish and only woke a couple of times in the night.

DH has come home from work with a sickness bug... that is the LAST thing we need... I may have to set up an exclusion zone for him

At least I have an excuse to sit and watch the Murray/Nadal match on the telly

OP posts:
MrsVidic · 26/01/2010 10:42

tigerfeet- how nice are nadal's arms? My DP is off today so I'm 'letting' him watch the match as he irons

I weighed myself this morning and I've lost weight so we're taking advantage of my hallow legs by going to pizza hut for lunch

TigerFeet · 26/01/2010 11:10

I'm slightly disappointed by Nadal's top - I prefer the sleeveless ones so you get a full view of those biceps

How good of you to let your dh watch every man should have a wife as wonderful as you

dd2 is actually playing happily in her chair ... i should take the opportunity to do something constructive I suppose

Marking place will read properly when finally stop feeding. So far 15wo Ds around 15 feeds in 24 hours

TigerFeet · 26/01/2010 12:56

She's asleep [wizened emoticon]

I have given up counting how many feeds she's having - I find it a bit disheartening so I've decided not to bother

I remember having a lightbulb moment while dd1 was doing frenzied feeding - the reason why I didn't have time to keep up with housework was that she was spending so long clamped to me - the equivalent in hours of a full time job plus some overtime. Therefore if is acceptable to let the house slide and eat convenience food when you are working many hours a day outside the home, it is also acceptable to do the same if you are feeding for 10 hours a day (or however long)

I am not a huge fan of the flavour/salt content/price of ready meals so whenever I make a chilli or bolognese or shepherd's pie or similar, I make enough for two or three meals and freeze them so at times like this I can just defrost, boil some pasta and voila - home cooked meal, no effort required

OP posts:
Mole007 · 26/01/2010 15:12

Am even struggling to fit in the convenience food! DS started his growth spurt just before Christmas, and is still on it now that he is 21 weeks old (although we are now trying to convince him that some of it might just be habit and that he really can't be that hungry....trouble is, he started latching on to my chin when he was hungry, obviously realised it made Mummy laugh, so tends to do it at random times as well as when he is hungry ). He had now decided that sleep is irrelevant and that food is all that counts, particularly when he hears noise in the kitchen or the microwave . Oh, and throw in the bottle (husband used to do evening dream feed) and dummy strike, teething (and frantic gumming of anything that comes into range) and life is a bundle of laughs here! I do warn him that his antics will curdle his milk.....

bratnav · 26/01/2010 19:48

DS woke once at 3.30 for a feed, but given that I only managed to express 4oz for DH to dream feed him with and he usually has between 6 and 8oz that's not too bad. He woke up at 8 this morning.

Has fed LOADS today, but napped well too, so a pretty good day overall.

We are going to do BLW, we have offered a couple of bits of veg so far which DS has picked up and chewed slightly, but we are going to leave it til 6 months to do it properly, we have dogs, so any mess on floors is sorted I took him to be weighed today and he is massive compared to all the others his age, at least 2kg heavier I told the HV we were going to do BLW and she asked what it is

I missed the tennis?

I am waiting for my chinese takeaway if DH will get off his bum, will report back on food later, mmmmm

MrsVidic · 26/01/2010 20:31

BLW is great- bratnav- took dd to pizza hut today and we gorged on pizza while she had finger salad bar food. Its so much easier and she loves it! We have a cat who now loves our dd and willcome in at her meal times for scraps being thrown on the floor

Mole007 - my dd likes to chew my nose

Tigerfeet- I know what you mean about salt content- I get so thirsty if I eat crap

bratnav · 26/01/2010 23:42

MrsVidic, do you think it is ok to BLW with just fruit and veg until DS is 6 months instead of waiting until 6mo for everything? He just seems so keen to try.

jaggythistle · 27/01/2010 08:24

Every 2 hours last night

Then he woke up at 7.15 which was only just over an hour since last feed, I went to change him after hearing a lot of wind and he was so upset I had to feed him first, while he was somewhat fragrant.

You'd think I was starving him.

Yesterday was not too bad, survived a trip to visit in-laws. Although I had to sing really loudly on the way home, as he got upset about 3 miles from our house. He never cries once the car is moving, so I guess he was really wanting fed.

MIL is a bit about bf, so I was glad he was not getting too upset while there or I would have never heard the end of it. Had to feed him in the restaurant at lunch, had taken some ebm which he had as well a couple of hours later.

loulou77 · 27/01/2010 08:46

TigerFeet, I wish I had found this last night...DS2 is 17 weeks, red cheeked, drooling, grumpy and WIDE AWAKE...1h 30 mins of naps between 6am and 1am yesterday. He's feeding an awful lot too. DH is away and had pre-school, nursery, appointments to get to. Today, however, is shaping up to be a pyjama day for me and the three DCs. This thread has given me a lot of comfort and helpful hints.

MrsVidic · 27/01/2010 09:39

my DD slept from 7pm - 4.30 then was awake ( I just wanted to cry- she fed for an hour then wouldn't go back to sleep!

She did have her first proper poo today though after 36 hours without anything more than wind- so hopefully that means her spurt is nearly over as she's eating loads of her normal food.

bratnav- I think you're meant to wait for the finger food thing but you're best off asking the BLW experts on the weaning page as I am a novice. BTW Pears were really popular with my dd!

chocolaterabbit · 27/01/2010 10:27

Am very tired and tearful today. DS finally went to sleep at 9.30, fed at 11.30, 1 and 3 and didn't really go to sleep again after the 3am feed - he sort of dozed for 45 minutes. Have to look after DD as well today. Think there might be a lot of DVDs.

rubyslippers · 27/01/2010 10:34

i think my DD has been on a permanent growth spurt since she was born

first 72 hours never unlatched

then 6 week growth spurt - made me cry

12 weeks spurt - actually not too bad

16 weeker - she fed 2 hourly day and night for 8 days (and she did it early at 14/15 weeks)

Last night she was up at 10.45 pm, midnight, 2 am and then 5 ish

anyway - i do love chips and gravy being a northern girl!

blinder · 27/01/2010 10:47

feel for you chocolaterabbit! dvds are the way to go.

jaggythistle · 28/01/2010 15:01

Oh no!

Have you all wasted away to nothing?

Every 1-2 hours again last night, am seriously sleepy.

Have been shouted at quite a lot today (enjoying trying out his voice these days), also he has worked up to crying suddenly quite a few times. Is not enjoying playing by himself today.

how are you all doing?

TigerFeet · 28/01/2010 17:14

hi all

dvd's - will add that along with cbeebies/cbbc to the TigerFeet Patented Guide On How To Survive A Growth Spurt

dd is sleeping well at night - just one or two wakings - but is still chugging away for most of the day

today she slept for about an hour and a half in the middle of the day so i managed to get some jobs done, eat a butty in peace and chat to a friend on the phone uninterrupted.

we have just had a bit of a poo incident - lots of milk in = lots of poo out it would seem

jaggythistle · 28/01/2010 18:18

aaw, after being attached for about 3 hours in a sleep wake cry feed sleep cycle, he has just given me the biggest smiles when he woke up.

Now quietly watching the tumble drier

going to try and make curry now...

bratnav · 29/01/2010 09:48

Went to bed at 7pm, woke at 10, 2,4,6 sooooo tired

TigerFeet · 29/01/2010 17:01

baby stuck to boob as i type...

she seems to have calmed down a little today though

she woke twice last night, 1 and 4

she does go longer at night so that's somethign I suppose

poor you bratnav, that sort of frequency is soooo draining

how is everyone doing? any plans for the weekend> (hahahahahahaha)

i am just looking forward to not having to be out of the door by 8.20. At least i can vegetate on the sofa for the morning instead of having to be awake enough to drive and talk to people.

OP posts:
blinder · 29/01/2010 17:27

miniblinder (4mo) is now self soothing half of the time! C'mon! She is drifting off to sleep on the bed next to the computer as I type.

but she insists on waking up for little feeds at 2.28am and 4.45am AND 7.15am precisely every morning.

I dont think I can realistically call it a growth spurt any more though as she barely feeds for those times. I think it's a body clock issue. Can I still have chips?

jaggythistle · 29/01/2010 17:47

Got friends coming round tomorrow night, have expressed one feed worth (I hope) for Daddy to give him. Will try to do some more in the morning. Managed to get a bit of a rest and express as he is having a kip now.

Am going to try and offer him lots of feeds before bed in the vain hope that he sleeps for a period longer than 2 hours...

He was up at similar times to bratnav's. We have tried earlier nights the last couple of nights, I think it made things worse. He falls asleep no bother at approx 10 normally, tried 9.30 then 8.45 last night, giving up now! Was thinking he might be overtired. Meh.

Zzzzzzzzzz

Chips all round I think, we deserve it
