bit "out there" this one - but would anyone consider donating breast milk for my friend who has terminal cancer?

Really hope this doesn't offend anyone but she is only 37, has 4 and 2 yr old ds's and has stage 4 cancer. She is trying the raw food diet and everything she can to try to hold the cancer where it is and get as much time with her boys as possible.
We've read research about the curing powers of breast milk and in the US it seems it's possible to buy breast milk on the internet. Haven't found any similar UK sites.
It occurred to me it was worth asking mumsnetters if they had any spare breast milk??
thanks

I'm in Reading and certainly could help - again if you find any way of transporting it.

TabithaTwitchet · 28/11/2009 14:20

Still BFing my 2 year old, so could help too if needed - I am near Reading so could combine with Picante

I have a lovely image right now of unconnected women all over the country pumping away to help a complete stranger.

pippa251 · 28/11/2009 16:30

I'm in a town close to Milton Keynes, happy to help if you can sort out the logistics. Will keep an eye on this thread for more info on logistics.

Best wishes to your friend x

I'm so sorry to hear about your friend, I'm in a similar position to you as my friend is also stage 4, but sadly I don't hold out a lot of hope for something like this working...it's probably a different type of cancer though and anything that makes your friend feel better has to be valid.

I hope she gets to stick around for as long as possible. xx

You need a ferribox or similar to transport them in. The cheaper moulded polysterene ones can fit little milk collection pots.

Bear in mind though that lots of couriers will refuse pointblank to take anything like this (however if you put it in a cardboard box they will be none the wiser). Just use 24 hour shipping. Frozen milk in a polystyrene container will stay frozen for up to 18 hours - 24 in winter (those courier depots are unheated!)

Also in Cheshire (like Pippa above) and bfing a 14 month old ... Haven't tried expressing in a while but could give it a go.

My dad (retired GP) used to have a big stash of polysterene boxes (used for transporting vaccines and other medical bits and bobs) - if they will be any use to this project then I can see if he still has them. I think they were quite large (maybe a foot square, but smaller inside, obviously).

Hi,

I am feeding my 5 month old and am expressing a stash for return to work.

Happy to try and increase output to send some on for your friend if you can get it set up. I am in Notts.

Hello everybody, thank you so much for so many replies. My friend and I are also very teary eyed by just how many people care enough to give this a try. The great news is we've found two local women who are prepared to donate a regular supply. so thank you, thank you, so much for such generous offers, we're going to give the local donations a try and see how she gets on. I have no idea if this will make any difference to her at all but anything that gives her and her husband some hope is worth its weight in gold.
When I spoke to her yesterday she said how much she had been moved by you all and how positive it made her feel. so thank you for that too.
