Why was I so upset by this?????

I jokingly asked my hubby if he wanted to try my breastmilk and he didn't, he wasn't mean about it or anything and I had said it jokingly but I got really upset in privatew later and I can't really work out why. I have since explained to him that although I said it jokingly I was really upset that he seemed like he would never try it and why would he(not in a nasty way). He said he hadn't realised that I was upset and he hadn't realised that I actually wanted him to, he really thought I was just joking. anyway my 5 yr DD1 has justed asked to try it so I expressed some into a glass and she tried it, she was really eager to try but she said she didn't like it. Thats fine but I have some left (just a sip or two) shall I poop it in the fridge and offer it to my hubby when he comes in later??????? he now knows I'm serious so I would have thought that he would try it, idon't care if he hates the taste but trying it has sudden'y become important to me, Am I crazy?????

does anyone who has tried formula think its tatse like cardboard?

motherinferior · 22/05/2005 18:43

Did he follow her around all day, just waiting to be called into service?

aloha · 22/05/2005 18:43

I agree that breastmilk is a wonder substance. Still don' t want to drink it though!
I think your dh declined your offer very politely. Mine is of the Mr Marthamoo camp, I suspect.

sparklymieow · 22/05/2005 18:43

think formula milk tastes gross!!!!!

aloha · 22/05/2005 18:44

Cod, actually, I'm trying no to think about it.
However, did anyone see the breastmilk incident on Nip Tuck?

As the father of my children looked appalled at the idea of cutting the umbilical cord, I feel he would have joined the Mr Moo ranks too.

When I was a baby, my nan used to give me cows milk and put my formula in her tea! She thought cows milk was better than formula.

motherinferior · 22/05/2005 18:47

But honestly, TR, I don't think he was rejecting either you or the milk that's feeding your baby; he just didn't want to try it.

marthamoo · 22/05/2005 18:48

Or alternatively make him a nice cup of coffee...

trinityrocks · 22/05/2005 18:49

thanks guys MI you were right I think I was stupidly letting myself take it as a rejection of me!! thanks for putting some perspective on the matter

My friend expressed milk into a jug and kept it in the fridge.
Her DH made porridge with it by mistake. He was pale green when she told him what he had done.

Trinityrocks - I can understand where you might have been coming from when you got upset - it is sort of saying 'eeugh your body is disgusting'. It's a test - like when those of us who are old enough remember being told that you weren't a proper feminist if we hadn't tasted your own menstrual blood. And in a context of general disgust for women's bodies (names for 'bits', jokes about cunnilingus etc etc`) I think it can feel like that.
Actually I used to get upset at DP's rather pervy (as I saw it) interest in expressing and tasting my b/m, and I remember a shrieking argument when I was desparately trying to express with him peering / leering at my breast. We women can barely get it right in our reactions to b/f and milk - reactions about feeding toddlers, feeding in public etc - so I do actually pity poor men. And I think it tastes foul - a peculiar aftertaste far worse than goat's cheese.

Share a beer and concentrate on the ways in which he DOES appreciate aspects of your body!

Twiglett · 22/05/2005 19:25

"you weren't a proper feminist if we hadn't tasted your own menstrual blood"

Blu

I'm at least as old as you and no-one ever said that to me

hunkermunker · 22/05/2005 19:26

You mean you don't have it on toast, Twiglett?

Actually, have totally grossed myself out with that...but am posting anyway - I'm like that

colditz · 22/05/2005 19:27

HM, eeewwwwww!

hunkermunker · 22/05/2005 19:28

I know, I know

Twiglett · 22/05/2005 19:29

yuk yuk yuk yuk

I have however tasted my own BM, splashes licked off hand / not gulped from glass, and I'd like to say it DOES taste different dependent on what you'd eaten

Caligula · 22/05/2005 19:35

Yuk. Who's going to be the first to mention fried placenta?

Oh, looks like it was me.

Yep, think the beer suggestion is the one to go with.

trinityrocks · 22/05/2005 19:37

I am going to offer my DH the milk thats in the fridge when he gets home and if he doesn't want to then thats fine

I will no longer feel that it's a rejection of me and just chill

thanks guys
oh and the tasting your own menstrual blood YEEUUCCCKKKKKKK

I think he's let you know already that he doesn't want to try your breastmilk so why are you going to ask him again? Do you want a sex life ever again??!!

Is there a full moon or something? There's some seriously strange ideas going round MN tonight (ref some ridiculous post going on about airguns)... think the prospect of watching TopGear with DH is becoming ever more alluring...
