DS2 is 26 weeks old tomorrow and I did it.

Gave up with DS1 at 6 weeks.

DD BF till 10 months but had the occasional bottle of formula.

DS2.....BF all the way . This is a really big deal for me, and inspite of a wobble earlier this week that had me almost reaching for the Aptamil, we made it!!!!

Thanks in no small part to MN and all the support/advice and friendly words I've had here over the last few years.

Now looking forward to beating the 10months that I did with DD (I only stopped due to issues when pregnant with DS2)

woo hoo well done! amazingly satisfying isn't it?

malfoy · 01/05/2009 21:40

I am impressed. I never managed to go the whole 6 months without formula with either of my two. Well done.

LackaDAISYcal · 01/05/2009 21:42

well, he may have had a drop of formula in the hospital at two days old, but I'm in denial about that!!!

and yes, it is really satisfying

Yay! Well done!

nevergoogledragonbutter · 01/05/2009 22:54

well done. something to be proud of.

TheNatty · 01/05/2009 22:55

well done daisy. good to know that it can be done, and i know who to turn to when this little one comes.

good for you!

DitaVonCheese · 02/05/2009 00:54

Congrats to you both

moondog · 02/05/2009 01:11

That's fantastic. The pride will stay with you forever. When I feel bad about things I haven;'t done/should have done I remember stuff like this and it puts a spring in my step.I used my body for what it was meant for for my babies.

Shuvva · 02/05/2009 01:25

I didn't breastfeed either of mine and they're both extremely socialable and intelligent! Well done, but I honestly don't think it really matters. Diet lasts a lifetime.

malfoy · 02/05/2009 09:27

I think it matters more to the mother than the child.

giraffesCantRunA10k · 02/05/2009 09:30

well done

jellybeans · 02/05/2009 09:37

Well done! I know how it feels. I gave up by 6 weeks with my others but am still bf DS at nearly 25 weeks! He has teeny bits of formula (like 1fl oz every now and then with purree to wash down, I can't express) and purree (he has reflux and meds in the apple from 21 weeks) but I am very proud as I stuck through almost every bf problem you can get.I am going to carry on for a while.

FrannyandZooey · 02/05/2009 09:42

"I think it matters more to the mother than the child."

that's quite a pissy remark to make on a thread where someone is asking for support to celebrate something that she found hard

kidcreoleandthecoconuts · 02/05/2009 09:47

Well done you should be proud of yourself .
I only managed to bf DS until 6 weeks because of illness and I was gutted.
With DD I'm still bf and she's 15 months now! It actually gets easier from now on as they feed more efficiently, so quicker and less!

malfoy · 02/05/2009 10:04

Sorry. I didn't mean to sound pissy. I actually congratulated the OP last night. My last comment was in response to Shuvva. yes, I was feeling a bit pissy towards Shuvva.

tiktok · 02/05/2009 10:06

Oh for goodness sake, malfoy and shuvva....

Daisy - that's great

Shuvva - I so agree. Diet does last a lifetime. Is 'breastfeeding' not a part of this? I am pleased your kids are sociable and intelligent - no one suggests that formula feeding makes kids unsociable or unintelligent!

And malfoy - your remark is untrue as well as unpleasant.

malfoy · 02/05/2009 10:13

SORRY! I really didn't mean to offend.

I just felt for me that breastfeeding gave me such a feeling of doing something right. I really enjoyed it and was so upset with DS when it stopped abruptly.

When I was expecting DD one of the things I looked forward to was breastfeeding again.

I got so much out it. That's what I was trying to say.

I will now leave the thread.

FrannyandZooey · 02/05/2009 10:23

i understand a bit more now malfoy
i hadn't read shuvva's comment which is BEYOND pissy

tiktok · 02/05/2009 10:27

Ah, I see, malfoy....but what a way to say it! Too often, the notion that breastfeeding is 'more' for the mother than the baby is said in order to belittle the efforts mothers make to overcome breastfeeding challenges, and to suggest they are somehow indulging themselves at the expense of their baby!

LackaDAISYcal · 02/05/2009 22:15

please don't fight on my thread account

malfoy, I got what you were aiming at and am not at all offended by you , and yes it does matter more to mother than child but only in that the child isn't aware of the nutrition source! From a whole body point of view (future health of child, reduced risks of cancer in mum etc) though, it's just as important to the child as the mother.

shuvva, my FF DS1 is also sociable and intelligent, and by BF DD is too.....but he eats anything now and she is picky....go figure

I'm too pleased today, celebrating my DS2's half birthday (and his first proper meal of chicken, mashed potato and gravy) to be pissed off about stray comments

LackaDAISYcal · 02/05/2009 22:16

oh, and jellybeans, well done you in spite of your difficulties

I'll be doing this for a long time yet as well

OP posts:
jellybeans · 02/05/2009 22:22

Thankyou! Hope DS2 enjoyed his first proper meal!

treedelivery · 02/05/2009 22:27

Nice one! I can almost hear the spring in your step!

It's ace to feel 'a job well done'.

It is an achievement and you should be proud of it because as we all know, sometimes we really have to fight to achieve our goals. Bfing or otherwise.

Have a slab of chocolate. Marvellous.

Debs75 · 02/05/2009 22:27

Well done Daisy I too have managed 6 months+ of exclusive breast feeding. My friend has had to feed her 2 bottles of formula when I had to be in hospital when ds was ill but that doesn't count.
How long do you think you will feed for?

LackaDAISYcal · 02/05/2009 22:29

chocolate has sustained me tree

oooh, I was meant to email you about silk liners . DH has been using them to polish shoes; he thought they were dusters
