three strikes and you're out.....

DS (10mo) in his wisdom has decided now would be a good time to have a nursing strike.

Has not had a bf since 5am yesterday.

Is teething (is always when he is teething) - so he is really unsettled and clingy, just the sort of thing that a lovely snuggly feed will usually sort out.

This is his third one, the others have both lasted 5 days (well spread over 5 days ie Mon - Fri, so more like 4 x 24hr).

I know what to do, just want someone to stroke my head and say this one won't last so long.....

It'll be fine, have you tried anbesol for his teething??

Hang in there!!

wuglegg · 02/04/2009 09:46

Thank you

He is well and truly drugged! Seems a lot brighter today but still not feeding.

Just demoralising to try to latch him and have him turn away crying (or bite) - then watch me express and get very excited at seeing the cup and glugging 6oz down in seconds....

You are welcome - mine always bit - dd1 actually made her teeth meet through my nipple, (did get a bit worried that she may be a vampire ) Anbesol was the only thing that stopped it for us, good luck, Hopefully it won't last so long this time!

wuglegg · 02/04/2009 19:53

Eek!

I do have visions of my nipple coming off in his mouth.....

Only 2 days to go (hopeful)

Thankfully it was one sided as the tooth on the other side hadn't come through yet. There were suggestions at the time that I pop an earing in. Now that really is eek!!

wuglegg · 03/04/2009 20:50

Still not feeding...

However I have been immensely and irrationally cheered up by the ikkle bunnies

Out of curiosity what would he do if the only option for milk was boob?? As he's 10 months would it really be a problem if he didn't have any breast milk for a day or 2??

He would still be getting a lot of calcium etc through his diet... This isn't something that has happened to me, although i have breast fed ( and still am) for a running total of 46 months...

Am thinking if the source was the only option he would have to go for it, but I would think that there would be people on here who would have a difinative answer on that one... Probably I would try it, but i'm guessing that there is a reason not to??

N04 is due in august - I may seriously need to know the answer to this one...???

Can you fill me in?

FairLadyOfMuslinCloth · 06/04/2009 01:35

aww...it's his age and the teething....go with it..try not to take it personal...etc...
he isn't going to starve himself at this age....

wuglegg · 06/04/2009 19:32

Well he is still going.
Not sure about the withholding.

Today I was at work. I expressed about 9oz this am - gave him 6 and kept the 3oz for nursery (in addition to another 3oz I already had).

He didn't drink any milk at nursery (not unusal).

Tonight I could only express about 2 oz (had expressed during the day whilst at work) - gave him that but he was desperate for more. Tried offering the boob but he just wouldn't have it.

Ended up giving him the 4oz I had expressed at work.

Am off tomorrow - can't decide whether to give the "top off making it freely available" thing another go or whether to not offer or give him expressed and see what happens.

Advise me wise women of Mumsnet!

Passed the week mark now.

Have decided not to give him any EBM today.

Has missed two feeds so far.

Let's see who breaks first

kitkatqueen · 07/04/2009 12:46

Hang in there!!! He might be stubborn, but I would bet he doesn't have your willpower... You'll be fine.

kitkatqueen · 08/04/2009 19:51

Hows it going????

wuglegg · 09/04/2009 15:46

Well still not feeding.

I think the hormones have calmed down a bit now though as I am feeling a lot more positive.

Went 48hrs without giving him any milk at all and he still didn't crack so he is back on EBM.

Current plan is to plod on at least until these bloomin teeth are through although I am now thinking it's only 6 weeks till he is 1 so could just keep going until then (not that I would have weaned him then but it feels like a milestone)

Hey ho....

OP posts:
kitkatqueen · 09/04/2009 22:02

Keep trying you never know he might crack at any time...

wuglegg · 11/04/2009 20:41

Still going...

Hoping he might be saving it for tomorrow as his little Easter present for me!

OP posts:
kitkatqueen · 11/04/2009 23:39

fingers crossed!!

wuglegg · 13/04/2009 09:55

No luck.

Two weeks now.

and I bet the bunnies go soon as well
