Can anyone tell me why my babies bf stools are so orange, so explosive (often leak EVERYWHERE) and stain clothes!

Why the orange? and copious amounts/staining! lol

dunno, but i got round it by fixing the napy on low as possible over the hips so there was a good big pouch there to catch it all. after spending ages fixing them higher and tighter and problem getting worse

belgo · 06/03/2009 10:20

IME disposibles leak. Washables with a plastic cover are better.

gingerninja · 06/03/2009 10:21

Were they not a bit gappy around the legs and then adding to the leakage merryberry?

I don't know the answer to the OP but had to change DD's clothes at nearly every nappy change when she was a baby and it does stain doesn't it. Unless I guess you use a strong detergent. We use ecover which is pretty useless at removing stains.

PartOfTheHumphreysGroup · 06/03/2009 10:34

Miofresh gets the stains out (good for colour runs too)

pingviner · 06/03/2009 12:43

cold water and vanish bar before wash

regards line of sparkling clean baby clothes

realises she is turning into her mother

CharleeInChains · 06/03/2009 12:45

Please get it checked, it can be a sign that your baby isn't absorbing fat properly. Is he/she growing well?

CharleeInChains · 06/03/2009 12:51

sorry wasn't trying to worry you by the way. im sure there a loads of reasons for it, i just remeber it so vivdly from when DS was a little baby.

wasabipeanut · 06/03/2009 12:54

Vanish does get shot of it if you get stuff into soak or a wash fast enough. Line drying in the sun can also help shift any last traces.

I remember the days of "curry bum" with great affection!

I could understand why it was so liquid but the colour always baffled me as well.

Soory also must explain, that it only a worry if the stools are really greasy and fatty.

Can't help with the stains though as i NEVER managed to get ds's clothes stain free!

mumofdjandbabies · 06/03/2009 12:57

Ill buy some vanish, any other symptoms of poss fat malapsorption out of interest.
she is very dinky!

mumofdjandbabies · 06/03/2009 12:58

hmm how do you know if theyre greasy / fatty stools

OP posts:
CharleeInChains · 06/03/2009 13:00

Not really any other symptoms, DS had really bright orange stools that were oily, they stained badly and were very bulky and frequent and they were really pudrid smelling to the point where it would make me vomit.

I will tell you why i am saying this, but for one minute please don't assume this is anything to do with your dd.

DS is pancriatic inssuficiant because he has cystic fibrosis, but they test for that in the heel prick in new born babies in England now. That was the first sign for us (the horrid poo) and that face that he was failing to grow and put on wieght becuase he wasn't absorbing the nutrients and fats from his milk.

CharleeInChains · 06/03/2009 13:02

If they are oliy, DS's were visably oily kind of like, sorry if this is off putting, but if you get a curry from an Indian resturant and its delivered it sometimes has a greasy/ oily layer on it, it looks like that, its pretty ,luminous to!

Divvy · 06/03/2009 13:03

My 7 month old is the same, and I just keep him in baby grows and vests, so they can be boiled!

Never head of the fat thing, he is alos not very big..... more to worry about eh?

CharleeInChains · 06/03/2009 13:05

Noo don't be worried!

Easier said than done i know, i am taking about really fatty horrid smelling ppos, not just liquidy orange ones, alot of BF babies have runny orange/yellow poo and alot of babies are samller than others,

DS was different as i was still changing up to 20 of these horrid poo nappies up to 20 times a day!!!!!!

Im not scaremongering i promise!

I dont think this is helpful, maybe somethings should not be shared on the internet

CharleeInChains · 06/03/2009 13:08

I am really sorry. I honeslt never intended to upset or unintentionally worry anyone. I shall go away from this thread now.
I will just reiterate that what i am talking about is extremes and you would defintley know if there was a problem. I can only apologise again and bow out.

Divvy · 06/03/2009 13:12

I would say 20 times a day is extreem, he only does it once a day, and taht is enough...poor you xx

SausageRoleModel · 06/03/2009 13:17

To get rid of staining,I rinse out poo under tap and then stick in a bowl of warm water and a spoonful of Napisan overnight before washing - no scrubbing required!

Interesting tip about wearing low on hips - I have been assuming high and tight is better but perhaps I am moving things in the wrong direction!

IwishIwasmoreorganised · 06/03/2009 13:20

Try pegging your washing out on the line - sunshine does wonders on stains!

Divvy · 06/03/2009 13:23

Scrap my once a day comment, he has just erupted again!

CharleeInChains · 06/03/2009 13:25

Lol Divvy, DS1 (who has the health issues) was bottle fed, but DS2 was Breast Fed and you could literally hear him errupt, he would always pick a quiet libary or Dr's surgery to explode loudly.

I always wondered why BF and FF babies poo were so different since fomular is always saying how similar it is to BM?
