Read some of it and he doesn't seem overly keen on human milk either, tbh.
To long and boring I'm afraid.

nickytwotimes · 20/11/2008 13:02

too

determination · 20/11/2008 13:14

ok this is just a little snip from it;
Any lactating mammal excretes toxins through her milk. This includes antibiotics, pesticides, chemicals and hormones.
Also, all cows' milk contains blood! The inspectors are simply asked to keep it under certain limits. You may be horrified to learn that the USDA allows milk to contain from one to one and a half million white blood cells per millilitre. (That's only 1/30 of an ounce). If you don't already know this, I'm sorry to tell you that another way to describe white cells where they don't belong would be to call them pus cells. To get to the point, is milk pure or is it a chemical, biological, and bacterial ocktail? Finally, will the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) protect you? The
United States General Accounting Office (GAO) tells us that the FDA and the individual States are failing to protect the
public from drug residues in milk. Authorities test for only
4 of the 82 drugs in dairy cows.

We are constantly inhaling and imbibing chemicals.

Organic dairy products are available for those who want them. Or you can stop eating dairy. That'll sort the dairy issue, but not all the other issues with food/drink.

You are fooling yourself if you think that you can avoid all synthetic chemicals. Fair enough, minimise them as you see fit but you can't live in a bubble.

There is nothing new in this link.

needmorecoffee · 20/11/2008 13:21

oh yay. with dd aout to start the ketogenic diet which is all cream and butter.
i'm vegan myself.

nickytwotimes · 20/11/2008 13:22

And so what there are blood cells in it?
It is a bodily fluid. People seem to forget this and are then surprised that it is not "pure".

I agree the dairy industry mislead the public, but they are a commercial enterprise - of course they mislead us.

StealthPolarBear · 20/11/2008 13:28

"First of all, none of the authors
spoke of cow's milk as an excellent food, free of side
effects and the 'perfect food' as we have been led to
believe by the industry"
Why would they? Presumably these studies were discussing medical conditions that milk exacerbated or caused.

determination · 20/11/2008 13:31

The whole point i am trying to make here is that;
^Consider for a moment, if it was possible, to drink the milk of a mammal other than a cow, let's say a rat. Or perhaps the milk of a dog would be more to your liking. Possibly
some horse milk or cat milk. Do you get the idea? Well, I'm not serious about this, xcept to suggest that human milk is for human infants, dogs' milk is for pups, cows' milk is for calves, cats' milk is for kittens, and so forth. Clearly, this is the way nature intends it. Just use your own good
judgement on this one.^

nmc - this is a really stupid question and not sure that it was entirely answered elsewhere. But if a vegan breastfeeds a baby, is this vegan? Is species to species milk OK?

determination · 20/11/2008 13:34

Also, i am sure that i have read that the cows milk have been linked with MRSA due to the fact that antibiotics have been passed to humans through the milks and have made us partually "immune" to them which means that when treated for MRSA the antibiotics dont work like they should to kill the infection.

Maybe i am digging my own grave here!

Hmm, have read through it and it just seems to get a bit sensationalist for a scientific essay. Of course it ahs stuff in it if you break it down to all its components, most food does.

Will need to have a think and another read when I am not so tired I think!

ilovemydog · 20/11/2008 20:28

Thanks Hoochie!

love the part about gaining 7 lbs during pregnancy

Ema76 · 20/11/2008 20:33

personally i think milk and milk products are disgusting and think of the cow's udder. cow's milk is intended for cows if you think about it. goat's milk intended for goats. we are the only animal to drink the milk of another animal - it is a bit sick really.

tiktok · 20/11/2008 21:45

Ema - interesting views...what do you think formula is made of ?

It is fine for you to make whatever decision you feel most comfortable with, and your posts today and yesterday made it clear you plan to formula feed because of not feeling comfortable with breastfeeding. But formula is cows milk - the stuff you say is only for baby cows and which comes from something that disgusts you!

How do you square all that with your feelings about formula??

Not trying to get at you at all, but just puzzled

thisisyesterday · 20/11/2008 21:50

I think Ema was the one who started a thread about soya formulas though, so she is presumably planning on bringing baby up on a dairy-free diet too

thisisyesterday · 20/11/2008 21:50

sorry, to add: I may have missed some more recent threads!

tiktok · 20/11/2008 22:09

No - she's chosen SMA.

thisisyesterday · 20/11/2008 22:25

ahh,. bizarre then!

kathryn2804 · 21/11/2008 01:59

I don't understand why anyone would CHOOSE to give a cows milk based product (formula) designed for baby cows to baby humans. Formula was only invented for medical reasons to help those who GENUINELY couldn't feed their baby. Then the big companies saw a niche in the market and started marketing it to 'modern women' etc! Having said that, i do like cows milk on me cereal of a morning!

determination · 21/11/2008 07:35

I do love cheese, yoghurts and ice cream too..

but i am now thinking that i will start growing my own veg and become vegan..

OP posts:
Chirpygirl · 21/11/2008 08:03

Well if you think about it it is a bit gross, cheese is rotten milk, eggs are chicken periods etc etc but we all eat them!

Out of curiousity, what would you put on your cereal then? Soy milk?

broguemum · 21/11/2008 08:17

V. interesting article - makes a lot of sense to me although he's a bit sensationalist and the rest of the site is a bit odd. Personally I find milk absolutely vile and always have done. I remember being forced to drink it at primary school until my saintly mother sent in a note saying I was excused. Cheese on the other hand I love but try not to eat too much of even more so now.
