Grrrrr. It's so annoying! Is there nothing we can do?

OP posts:
juuule · 06/07/2008 22:29

" the majority of mums ff "

Well, that's okay then. If the majority do it, it must be okay. What sort of an argument is that?

If you made an informed, balanced decision about the way you fed your baby, what on earth are you getting so worked up about?

NiceShoes · 06/07/2008 22:32

not an argument or discourse on feeding.statement of fact actually. why are you so "worked up" about what other mums feed babies and the apparent Machiavellian underhand tactics of manufacturers

NiceShoes · 06/07/2008 22:34

forgive me i forgot my Harvard referencing my stats are courtesy of TikTok et al

hf128219 · 06/07/2008 22:34

Um, I think it's the BF advocates that are getting rather worked up about an advert about Cow and Gate. Or did I miss something?

nancy75 · 06/07/2008 22:35

dont all of you get bored of saying the same stuff over and over again, every single thread about formula turns into this.

hf128219 · 06/07/2008 22:37

Oh, it all just makes me laugh!

tiktok · 06/07/2008 22:38

NiceShoes, still waiting for an example of "tub thumping monomaniacs who insidiously berate and criticise those evidently weak and lesser mums who dare to ff."

Unless you're making this all up, of course

NiceShoes · 06/07/2008 22:39

it is a MN traditon slugging out the same old threads, just waiting on the working mum/sahm kicking off

NiceShoes · 06/07/2008 22:41

TikTok Thanks for the name check and cut and paste job. Shucks You know im right baby.

nighty night

lackaDAISYcal · 06/07/2008 22:41

I am not a BFing advocate as such. I formula fed my son for 11 months. I just want the information to be available to mums to let them make an informed choice about what they are feeding their child (as has been oft repeated on this thread...no-one knows as the manufacters aren't telling)

I also want the formula manufacturers to play fair and not twist the wording of the law to suit their own material gain.

why is this so difficult for HF et al to comprehend. Do they not care what their children are being fed......"oh the babies smile and have an orange defence shield; that'll do me then"

....fucking madness of the highest order.

and why am I worked up about this? because I care.

MilaMae · 06/07/2008 22:42

Tiktok I don't include you as your posts are often fair well balanced and give good advice.

I have read several on this thread that are actually rather nasty. A couple of Sabire's likened ffeeding to smoking whilst pregnant and she also said that ff mothers do it for convenience.

It's about time certain people actually thought the damage they do with some of their comments. The gloves off it's only ffeeding mothers we're talking about is appalling.

It is perfectly possible to write about ffeeding without being nasty-you manage it why can't everybody?

I also find a lot of Sabire's posts bullying in nature- constant whole screen posts full of exact quotes and reams of stats (that obviously can't always be verified for reliability)with a little bit of nastiness thrown in for good measure.

Milamae now waits to be told she has issues with bfeeding mums as having complained at how ffeeding mums are referred to I'm obviously bitter and twisted!!!!!!!!!

tiktok · 06/07/2008 22:42

Great discussing it with you, NiceShoes

Really good to see how you back up your hysteria with examples. Not.

hf128219 · 06/07/2008 22:44

Who actually said I FF?

NiceShoes · 06/07/2008 22:44

keep saying my name baby, you know i lurrrve it when you protest.you know im right too

NiceShoes · 06/07/2008 22:44

LOl dont assume i ff either

tiktok · 06/07/2008 22:45

NiceShoes, don't tell me what I know unless you can back up your assertion with examples. You haven't even tried. Bit pathetic, doncha think??

Or are your posts meant to be amusing?

lackaDAISYcal · 06/07/2008 22:48

milamae, the smoking reference did not liken FF to smoking. It used the argument that some say they have smoked for years and never got lung cancer not meaning smoking wasn't bad for you as a counter argument to "FF never hurt me or mine".

and saying that mums FF for convenience is hardly a nasty lie.....it has been cited as a reason for FF rather than BF by FF mums all over the place (including several that I know in RL)...a statment of fact can hardly be described as a nasty lie

theSuburbanDryad · 06/07/2008 22:50

NiceShoes, you are waaaaaaaay off the mark.

Sorry.

The only thing that might have been slightly off topic is my cheese rant (for which I apologise!)

No-one wishes to alienate or demonise ff-ing mothers. It would be totally counter-productive. If you can show me somewhere on this thread where bf-ing advocates are demonising ff-ing parents then i will happily and graciously apologise and also eat my best hat. (which is this one, by the way)

DKMA · 06/07/2008 22:51

Pmsl at 'fish bollocks'!
Very amusing

lackaDAISYcal · 06/07/2008 22:55

nice hat SUD

theSuburbanDryad · 06/07/2008 22:55

Oops - x-posted with about a billion other people.

I'm going to bed, i'm too ill for all this.

sabire · 06/07/2008 22:55

"A couple of Sabire's likened ffeeding to smoking whilst pregnant

You have misread what I've said or you are deliberately distorting it to further your argument. I didn't 'liken' ff to smoking. I used smoking as an analogy to make a point about causation.

"and she also said that ff mothers do it for convenience"

The Department of Health Feeding Survey comes out every five years. It surveys the experiences of approximately 9000 new mothers. One question they ask on the survey is 'why did you choose your method of feeding'.

The majority of mums who chose to breastfeed state that they chose it because 'it was best for my baby'.

For ff mums the largest proportion gave this reason for choosing to ff - 'so someone else can feed the baby'.

You can check out the statistics at the DOH website if you so choose.

I admit though that there are many other pressing reasons why women choose not to try to initiate breastfeeding, and would not dismiss these as unimportant. I apologise for giving the impression that I feel MOST women who choose not to initiate breastfeeding do so for reasons of convenience.

The other statistics and research I quote can be found in the most recent edition of the Royal College of Midwive's "Successful Breastfeeding", or on the UNICEF site.

morocco · 06/07/2008 22:56

yawn

anyway, getting back to the point

is it still worth complaining to the asa or do number of complaints not count for anything as they just investigate the one complaint?

hf128219 · 06/07/2008 22:56

Is FF convenient?

  1. Bottles and teats
  2. Supply of washing up liquid, water and a bottle/teat cleaner
  3. A Steriliser
  4. A fridge
  5. Good hygiene
  6. Formula
  7. A kettle/hob/bottle warmer
morocco · 06/07/2008 22:58

ooh,not yawning at you sabire, how very rude of me
