tee hee
Dh was very anti, but has had a few tastes inadvertantly whilst getting jiggy.

Once we were going through security and he happened to have the changing bag- he had to taste my EBM from DD's bottle! He was not impressed.

Brangelina i think it was the grapes of wrath

Brangelina · 04/07/2008 12:45

Ah, thank you. Last time I read Steinbeck it was at school, so eons ago.

Buckets · 04/07/2008 13:03

I like to think I'd let DH have a go if he was interested but TBH that's a fairly empty gesture as he'd probably think it weird.

onwardandupward · 04/07/2008 14:52

I've never thought of it as a particularly
sexy thing, but when suffering from horrific blocked ducts, one friend did gently remind me that the baby was not the only person in the house with a mouth. Nothing like a strong adult suck to clear the blockage in seconds, she said, and he can always spit not swallow...

I don't believe this friend faffs around with cabbage leaves and hot flannels...

PrettyCandles · 04/07/2008 14:58

Why not? I wish dh wasn't squeamish about it - puts him off, and deprives me.

OTOH, your body, your choice.

bonniefromboot · 04/07/2008 15:21

I thought was very common. My dh not at all squeamish. Tested EBM before feeding to baby to make sure correct temp etc... Also has drunk from the source!!
in fact, can still get a mouthful during sex now (that's more than a year since stopped bf)

Buckets · 04/07/2008 15:52

Oh God no - blockages!!! That's like pus isn't it? Would be worse than doing a blowjob on someone who's had chilli for dinner (not recommended).

onwardandupward · 04/07/2008 16:37

No!!! Not pus!!!

The standard way of clearing a blockage is to get the baby to drink lots and lots from the blocked side. But if that doesn't work, then a Dh, I am told, can do the trick in seconds. Noone is suggesting that a baby should drink pus. that would be really

It's only if you don't clear a blockage in a day or two that it gets infected and pus-y and turns into mastitis and needs antibiotics and stuff.

If more women knew how to clear blockages easily, lots more would succeed at breastfeeding for longer. And when the cabbage leaves and hot flannels and massaging breast while feeding baby fail, then maybe it's time to pull in the cavalry (and call on all those favours the mama is owed in that tasting-other-people's-body-fluids department, if you get my drift...)

Buckets · 04/07/2008 16:41

Phew, can you tell I didn't last more than a week? Have pledged to give it my best shot this time so will remember your advice, thanks.

VictorianSqualor · 04/07/2008 17:39

Oooh Buckets, we do love a new BFer, come ask lots of wuestions and let us waffle

flubdub · 04/07/2008 20:08

In what situation would your dp 'drink from the source'?

Him - Im thirsty
you - Here, have some of this.

fadingfast · 04/07/2008 21:24

Thanks to you all for brightening up a very dull Friday evening - haven't had such a good laugh in ages!

Have to admit the whole idea makes me feel a bit queasy.

Was it Alex James (ex-Blur) who made cheese out of breast milk?

GreenMonkies · 04/07/2008 22:26

"Was it Alex James (ex-Blur) who made cheese out of breast milk? "

He made breastmilk expresso on the F-Word with Gordon Ramsey, I was quite surprised that Gordon had never tasted breastmilk seeing as he is a father of 4.....

DP has had the odd taste by accident, but has never asked to taste it. I have also tasted it, both whilst testing ebm for freshness and temp and when expressing, I licked drips off my fingers with out thinking about it! It's very sweet, like sweetened skimmed (cows) milk.

Monkies

VictorianSqualor · 05/07/2008 16:05

"Alex James is very happy to discuss cheese. He's fluent on the subject. He talks about the evolution of the first cheese ('It happened by accident probably - from horse milk') and about his neighbour Juliet Harbut - 'a wonderful lady, a real mover and shaker in the cheese world.' He tells me that you can't make cheese from human breast milk: 'Oxford University have tried! I once made a very nice cappuccino with it though. Claire had been boozing, and the maternity nurse, who was very bossy, told her that she couldn't use the milk. And there was loads and loads and loads of it, so ...'"

Buckets · 05/07/2008 16:23

Sigh, what a beautiful young man he was once. What a hairy old eccentric he is now, probably quite smelly too I'd wager.

I was just about to post on the Times article but Sleepycat got there first!
DH refuses to try it, but I had some of my own the other day. From my hand, I should add.
starlight - I'm pretty sure you could make money out of that skill!

Essie3 · 07/07/2008 14:35

In fact, Starlight, you could go on Britain's Got Talent. It's more impressive than a dancing dog!
I just tried but I hurt my neck.

ingles2 · 07/07/2008 14:44

YANBU...if you don't like the idea then no problem...
DH has tried BM whilst getting jiggy,...didn't bother either of us really after all we've both swallowed plenty of other bodily fluids
