Oh lordy - the comments are already coming in decrying the poor woman. Good for her I say, though I'm not sure I'd choose to talk to the Mail about breastfeeding

Flibbertyjibbet · 11/06/2008 19:18

Is this where we say 'popcorn anyone?'

I was more shocked that she is the same age as me, I look at least 15 years younger!

Oh yes, when I chose to BF it was all because of those rheumatoid arthritis reports

pooter · 11/06/2008 19:21

Cheers GM - it was quite a decent article - i didnt get annoyed at all reading it - which amazes me!! The only problem is the headline - with the ages FIVE and THREE in capitals, as if its shockingly bad! I wrote a little comment - couldnt help myself after 'Zoe' said it was obscene - stupid woman!

IorekByrnison · 11/06/2008 19:27

Don't you just love "the mother who insists on breastfeeding..."

But for such a twattish headline it's a surprisingly balanced article.

BroccoliSpears · 11/06/2008 19:28

Stella Onions is a brilliant name.

alittleteapot · 11/06/2008 19:30

They completely ignore that NHS guidelines are to bf for a year and WHO guidelines for two. They make out anything over 6 months is highly unusual.

whomovedmychocolate · 11/06/2008 19:33

Now if the age of the child was FIFTY THREE I could understand the concern. But it's just a puffy Mail piece. My bloody MiL will no doubt call me tomorrow to say I'm 'not that freakish' after reading it

IorekByrnison · 11/06/2008 19:40

That's a good point, alittleteapot - they even use the word "unorthodox". I take back my "surprisingly balanced article" comment.

buntinglicious · 11/06/2008 19:43

Let the comments on the site roll...

cupsoftea · 11/06/2008 19:44

good on her & her family - wonderful to bf her kids for as long as they want

TinkerbellesMum · 11/06/2008 20:00

I've just read this article after Stella sent me the link - she's great, it's her website I often post. I was surprised how good the article was too, shame about the comments how about the one about her age, she's only doing it because it's taken her so long to have children. I do wonder about people, do they really think you can force a child (especially an older child) to nurse?

I am going to reply but Tink's only just gone to bed and wasn't going to let me type

harpsichordcarrier · 11/06/2008 20:04

lol at the headline - the freak who INSISTS on feeding her children aged FIVE and THREE

except they still ask for milk, in fact, rather than her INSISTING

emkana · 11/06/2008 20:09

the Daily Mail is actually surprisingly positive about breastfeeding, not just in this article.

Credit where credit is due.

babyOcho · 11/06/2008 20:21

what the heck does this mean:

"There have also been fears about children being put at risk by 'gender-bending' chemicals in baby bottles. "

TinkerbellesMum · 11/06/2008 20:26

I missed that one first time

CantSleepWontSleep · 11/06/2008 20:54

That's the stuff that's in plastics that has been all over the news for months. What planets have you been on not to have heard about it?!

Could quite easily have been you though GM .

If I read any more comments I will just get angry, as I did reading the ignorant remarks made after your TV debut GM.

GreenMonkies · 11/06/2008 21:06

LOL Can'tSleep, it could indeed, although my chidren are 4yrs 9 months and 23.5 months, so not quite as shocking!!!

You can be the sequel next year then .

Swaliswan · 11/06/2008 22:08

I couldn't help it, I had to make a comment but it isn't coming up yet

Rachmumoftwo · 11/06/2008 22:19

I also commented, couldn't resist. Can't let small minded idiots have the last word, even if it is the Mail.

Swaliswan · 11/06/2008 22:25

Do you think that our comments have to be vetted? I can't help but wonder if they are going to be posted at all

Swaliswan · 11/06/2008 22:26

This was my comment...

To all those people who think this is more for the mother than the children....you cannot force a child to breastfeed. If they didn't want to breastfeed, they would refuse to do so. At some point they will stop breastfeeding when they are ready to. Why do we feel the need to dictate to a child when that point has to be. Whatever the age of the child there is still nutritional value to breastmilk and it is important that a growing child has enough milk and milk products. Why shouldn't this include breastmilk if the child wants it? And what is so bad about the mother enjoying breastfeeding her children? Why isn't the mother allowed to enjoy this very special bond? These children will not breastfeed forever but for now they still wish to do so and they are lucky to have a mother who is willing to allow them to self wean.

Human breast milk was designed for humans. Cows milk was designed for calves. Why not let little ones have the milk that was made for them?

Go on. You can all start throwing popcorn at me now

harpsichordcarrier · 11/06/2008 22:31

GreenMonkies do you INSIST on feeding them though
lol
