susiecutiebananas · 22/05/2008 22:21

Wow! I'm not sure its the first thing i'd think to do, but then, I guess one never knows how one would react in such horrific conditions. Good for her! I'm pleased that the mums are also pleased for her help.

Awww. Lovely lady

Not sure about the weirdy person standing behind her during the interview though

nappyaddict · 22/05/2008 23:47

how lovely!!

fabsmum · 23/05/2008 09:27

9 babies - Oh my!

I watched that with a lump in my throat.

Those babies - so gorgeous.

RiojaLover75 · 23/05/2008 09:36

What a fantastic story!!! What a selfless thing to do for these poor babies.

I've heard of breastmilk drying up in extreme shock circumstances.

hertsnessex · 23/05/2008 09:41

what a wonderful woman.

mistypeaks · 23/05/2008 09:52

That really made me well up. And she doesn't think she's worth any fuss! Bless her.

onepieceoflollipop · 23/05/2008 09:56

That made me well up as well. What scrumptious looking little babies as well.

Crying here...would any of us feed another womans baby in a similar or other situation I wonder?

nappyaddict · 23/05/2008 11:11

I would. I've fed my friends baby before. I was babysitting and she drank all the expressed milk i'd been given. I rang up her mum and asked her if i should go out and and buy a carton of milk for her. Then i said i've got a crazy idea here and if you hate the idea don't be afraid to say, theres a chemist 2 minutes away where i can get some forumla from, it's not a problem but I don't mind feeding her if you don't mind and don't want her to have formula. She was over the moon i think she would have jumped down the phone if she could. When I said I would have to get some formula she was asking her DH if he would mind if they cut their trip short cos she didn't want her to have it so i thin

nappyaddict · 23/05/2008 11:12

k i really made her evening.

BeachBunni · 23/05/2008 11:18

I think that's really lovely. When my lo was in SCBU it was discussed with me about using donor milk if my milk didn't come in. Luckily, it did but I would have preferred to use that rather than formula, and the doctors did too.

nappyaddict · 23/05/2008 11:23

i did ask my friend if she wanted me to express cos i think a lot of people would be uncomfortable about their baby directly feeding from another person but she said i'll leave it up to you. if it's more convenient for you not to then i don't mind if you don't, but if you'd prefer to express than obviously that's fine too.

StealthPolarBear · 23/05/2008 11:25

that was a lovely story althiugh it was sad she'd obv had to be separated from her baby
na - that was a very nice thing to do!

nappyaddict · 23/05/2008 11:27

i thought it would feel weird but it didn't at all. it was nice feeding a little baby again. might have felt a bit weird if the baby had been a toddler i think. even though i would have no qualms about feeding my own toddler (in fact i'm very sad that i don't) someone elses toddler might feel funny cos they're more expressive than a little baby.

mistypeaks · 23/05/2008 11:31

Well you eat off other people's plates when you go for dinner so why not?!?
That was really nice nappyaddict.

StealthPolarBear · 23/05/2008 11:37

do you mistypeaks? restaurants must pretend to be shut when they see you coming

mistypeaks · 23/05/2008 11:51

. . . using their cutlery. . .

StealthPolarBear · 23/05/2008 11:52

dabbing your mouth with their napkins and slurping their wine

mistypeaks · 23/05/2008 12:02

solo · 23/05/2008 12:03

I think it would depend really. I would happily feed a baby belonging to someone I know quite well, but I'd think about health aspects such as HIV if it was a strangers baby. I'd definitely be happy to give expressed milk though.
I expect I'll be flamed for that, but I'd be needing to think of my own children and what would happen to them if I inadvertantly became infected by someone elses baby...and it can and does happen.

nappyaddict · 23/05/2008 12:10

i didn't know you could get hiv from breastfeeding. how would that work?

onepieceoflollipop · 23/05/2008 12:38

I knew that potentially the baby could become infected with HIV if the woman feeding had HIV - I wasn't aware that the baby could pass it on to a mother feeding them.
