Which bottle would you recommend and why?

I used Avent bottles with my 1st two. I've had to chuck them all as I deceided that no. 3 could do with some fresh ones. Are there any on the market, I'm wondering, that are better. I was happy with Avent but if someone can persuade me that there's something better out there....? Ds and DD both were breastfed but I intro'd a bottle at 8 wks. or so. Both were a bit colicky too. Any recommendations?

The hourglass shaped tommy tippe ones, with 'real' breast teats (well they have lumps on the teat that supposedly feel like mums boob) My dd took to them nicely with minimum wind.

don't have any experience with bottlefeeding babies that little or collicky ones but I've never tried anything but Avent. They always worked for my boys (big one's 3.9 and still sucking on one twice a day)

I used Avent because they are available everywhere. have a friend up the road who swore by the Playtex bottles.

I used Avent and were happy with it.

But i would suggest not buying too many of any until you know what suits baby, as i have a couple of friends who have bought every make in the country until they found something that suited their babies!! - due to either colicky babies, or breastfed babies not finding easy to changed to bottle.

Dr Browns I agree with lockets. I had a breastfed baby until he was 10 months. I had to go away for a couple of weeks for medical reasons and they were the only ones he would take to. The teat is very flexible and very nipple liek.

I breast fed for 6 weeks and then couldn't produce enough milk. DS very colicky and the Advent ones made him worse. Dr Browns are fantastic and I can't recommend them enough.

I use MAMS bottles, have had no problem with them. Only buy one at a time though to see if your baby gets used to them. I breastfed and use the bottle to top up at the same time. You can buy them in toys r us or boots.

i used dr browns, still use them now (dd 11.5 mth) as she wont take any other, couple of mth back i bought aload of tommee tippee and she wouldnt have them!!! aarrgghh, what a waste of money

I have heard of the Dr Browns, the hv said they were good. I use MAMS cause I got a free teat from website and therefore continued to use.

i just ordered some dr browns for baby due in march. theres a really good webiste called www.babybfree.com and its one of two places that sell a microwave steriliser for those bottles. for about 14.99. and they have special promotions of which i ordered 6 8oz bottles and steriliser ffor 38.98 save £5. however delivery is £5 but well worth it and only available here.
they also sell pack 2 4oz bottles which i also ordered.

I was supposed to finish that last message off. Anyway Dr Browns very good. We started with Avent but swapped to Dr B to stop dd getting bad wind and colic. Got them from Mothercare and I'm sure they were £10 for 2 but well worth it. You can still sterilise them in a steam steriliser aswell. The haberman bottle is meant to be very good also but I think it's for babys that breast and bottle feed. The baby whisperer always used to use them. Don't know where you can buy them from though.

Thanks everyone. It seems to be an overwhelming 'thumbs up' for Dr Browns. I'm assuming that they won't fit into the Avent steriliser though...

If you are planning to continue breastfeeding, I recommend a bottle that is as close to bf as possible. I use the breast bottles at www.nurser.com I know you can order them in the UK too. They are weird to look at as they actually look like a breast, but excellent for bf babies as they require the same "Latch on" as bf and also have a very slow flow so they don't get lazy at the breast. I highly recommend them.

I did a search on it. It's a bottle with a funny tube so you can give the baby the bottle whilst it's in the car seat, pushchair, sofa etc without having to hold the baby.
