I used Avent bottles with my 1st two. I've had to chuck them all as I deceided that no. 3 could do with some fresh ones. Are there any on the market, I'm wondering, that are better. I was happy with Avent but if someone can persuade me that there's something better out there....? Ds and DD both were breastfed but I intro'd a bottle at 8 wks. or so. Both were a bit colicky too. Any recommendations?

DS struggled with most bottles, we have now all settled for NUK bottles and they are ace! the teat is squished a bit and there is a little air hole that helps regulate wind. We got ours from Boots and Superdrug.

Hope that helps xx

Has anyone mentioned Playtex disposables? Can you still get them here? I used them for all mine - 4 good points -

  1. they use their mouths the same way to suck as if they were breast-feeding

  2. if you squeeze all the extra air out of the bag before you give them the bottle it doesn't have to be tilted up for them to suck, so hands-free like podee if essential (like in the car)

  3. because there isn't any air inside the bottle, in theory they get less wind

  4. you only have to sterilise the teats and caps, not the bottles. (But the sterile bags are quite expensive.)

However I had heard that they were being discontinued over here?

Another big yes for playtex. Last time we went to buy bags we had real problems and were told by several chemists they'd been discontinued. We found a shop and bought all they had but havent had to rebuy yet as we only use 3 a week.

baby supplies still have them apparently.

They are very good but all babies won't take to them so if you do consider them just get a starter set.

i had to express a lot when bf -ing and avent was fine with ds, that said he is such a piglet that he would take to any bottle provided there was milk in it , heard dr browns good, maws has been fine occasionally - would prob go for avent in future just because it is what i am used to - you can get some bottles from boots that are a sort of elongated 0 shape and because bottle is narrower it is easier for a babe to hold themselves when they start to want to feed themselves keep looking for them but cannot find

Dr Brown's did it for us. DS is a really guzzler and would always have problems burping so would get really bad tummy ache. I found once I moved him to Dr Brown's he seemed alot better. Also, the Dr Brown's teats are softer than the Avent ones which ds seemed to latch onto it better.
