Out of curiosity.

Oh Levanna you ARE getting desperate

Levanna · 13/01/2005 01:21

@ Kristina!

I am genuinely interested though!

I didn't when the kids were very little, not consciously but now you come to mention it.

But then I smell like a bouquet of fresias most of the time

And fwiw, when I had ds1 and I was all active birth centre yoga and homeopathic and natural (HA! - that's me personally, no offence to anyone else) I didn't shave my pits until he was about a month old because I wanted him to take to my scent.

I think that is definitely too much information

AussieSim · 13/01/2005 02:07

I changed to roll on from spray even though I didn't find it as effective. I do worry about the aluminium in deodorant and do have a pang of guilt now when I put on deodorant as I am pregnant, but the alternatives aren't going to do the job on a day like today (39 degrees) and I would hate to stink.

Suzy, you old hippy earth mother!

I used a green people organic deo as I recall, but did shave my pits.

highlander · 13/01/2005 03:24

crikey, I never even thougth about it! I get waxed every month and I use a roll-on as the sprays make me cough.

Apparently L'Occitane do these natural salt thingies that are supposed to be anti-bacterial (it's the bugs that make your pits smell?) I think John Lewis does there stuff.

KateandtheGirls · 13/01/2005 03:41

It never occured to me not to use deodorant. Why wouldn't you?

kinderbob · 13/01/2005 04:25

I gave up deodrant as the non aluminium one's smell just reminded me of morning sickness and made me heave. I use some on very hot days now, but usually don't bother. I keep myself hair free though to be more hygenic.

pixiefish · 13/01/2005 07:38

I haven't used a spray since I got pg. Am now bfing so still don't. I do use a roll on sometimes though. Haven't dyed my hair for same period of time. Also only use plant based ecover cleaning things in the house- no aerosols.

Actually changed dh's deodarant to roll on as well as i'm concerned about dd breathing in the aerosol things...

NotQuiteCockney · 13/01/2005 09:16

I gave up deodorant and antiperspirent ages ago. Also, I gave up shaving my armpits. I do shower every day, I am generally pretty hygenic, although I do sometimes smell a bit sweaty. I prefer that smell to perfume or deodorant, generally.

I use scented moisturiser pretty often, but not on my boobs while breastfeeding.

I hadn't realised everyone shaved their pits and used products there. Although thinking about it, I'm sure most of all of my friends do.

Marina · 13/01/2005 10:08

Bionsen do a reasonably effective aluminium-free deodorant with "Japanese spa minerals" that I switched to after ds was born.
If you "glow" a lot, this keeps you neutral-smelling, she says alluringly.

mousesmum · 13/01/2005 11:30

Hurrah notquitecockney! I'm not doing it to make a stand, but I've not really had the time or inclination to shave armpits (or legs) since dd arrived. I don't use deodorant now either. Trying to cut down on chemicals in the house, switching to Ecover cleaning stuff and organic toiletries (although you do just about need a second mortgage). I have eczema and at the moment it's attacking my armpits so I couldn't bear to shave or put deodorant on anyway. Also since I stopped the hair removal dh has told me he likes the 'European' look

Slightly concerned about going back to work, to an office full of very well-groomed women - the peer pressure may get to me. I think I will also be more worried about smelling sweaty at work than I am when I'm being an earth mother/domestic goddess.

Levanna · 13/01/2005 12:24

Kateandthegirls, I don't like idea of all those chemicals seeping down and around my breasts for the little 'uns to suck up. I've also found that with each DD, a return to deo (due to habit!) once or twice has caused nursing strikes. It just isn't nice tasting stuff, after all . It's just personal view and IME.

Glad to see I'm not alone!

LOL Suzywong. My DD2 rather than opening her eyes from sleep to check it was me, would sniff my breast a few times, then latch on like a pro .

Not breastfeeding but I use this natural deodrant with no nasty chemicals and so does my boy

I have Bionsen too (after it being recommended on MN) although I have found in the winter I am 'glowing' rather too much in my jumpers so have gone back to Sure for the jumper season, will change back in the summer again when wearing airier clothes.

I am presuming PitRok will be similar to Bionsen, a deodorant rather than an anti-persperant?

KateandtheGirls · 13/01/2005 14:58

I'm not knocking anyone's personal choice, but I know that I personally would reek if I didn't use deodorant - and I do shower daily and shave my armpits. I would just be too embarassed to be near anyone.

And I have never found that deodorant migrates down to my nipples either.

CarrieG · 13/01/2005 15:34

Lush do a good 'crystal' deodorant - no-one's complained about me yet!

weightwatchingwaterwitch · 13/01/2005 15:36

Sobernow, we got this one from Sainsbury's I think, but I'm not positive. I know health food shops do them and we have been to one recently so it may have been there. We tried the Pitrok crystal and it didn't work very well but the spray works for me. At least, I don't think I smell!

weightwatchingwaterwitch · 13/01/2005 15:37

It was Marina who recommended Pitrok to me here.

Marina · 13/01/2005 15:58

Pitrok can be got from healthstores, www, I know someone less "radiant" than me who uses it. I use Bionsen as I find it similar but more effective.

Marina · 13/01/2005 15:59

Doh! Of course you know that www, I meant to tell Demented that. Time for caffeine I think...
