FFS he is small!! He is gaining weight now, and is on one meal a day, plus BFs. Why can't they see that callum is just a small child. He is devolping normally so whats the problem??

SparklyGothKat · 21/04/2008 12:17

OP posts:
SparklyGothKat · 21/04/2008 12:19

he is just below the 0.9th percentile and heading back to the 0.4th (which is where he was following before we introduced the formula and have now stopped)

SGK - my hv said told me that increasing solids is more likely to make a baby lose weight, as pureed carrots etc have a lots less calories in them than milk (either formula or breast).

this is my new hv btw, not my evil old one who told me to start weaning ds at 11 weeks!

your doctor's a knob, sorry...

soremummy · 21/04/2008 12:23

lol you wouldn't say bless if you met her. Think she is the demon child.

tortoiseSHELL · 21/04/2008 12:23

He looks lovely on your photos SGK - and not too small at all! Ds2 is tiny - he is about 24 pounds atm, and will be 2 next week. But he was 10lb2 when he was born, so has really been 'catching down'. He seems to crawl along the 9th centile, but has visited the 0.9th!

SparklyGothKat · 21/04/2008 12:24

he is a knob! he was trying to get us to move clinics, I think he sees me as trouble

OP posts:
theUrbanNixie · 21/04/2008 12:25

he probably does see you as trouble SGK, because you won't do as you're told and do your research. some doctor's hate people like that - it makes their job so much harder!

soremummy · 21/04/2008 12:27

Just looked at our red book and she never even on the the 4th line always been below them but shes happy crawling, starting to walk, now eating 2 meals a day has loads of b/f's doesnt like her cot, insists on sleeping in our bed, has 2 teeth, apart from being dinky and mindful, she is just like all other nearly one year olds. I have just decided to be totally laid back about it but do love it when people look at her in her pushchair and say aww isnt she lovely and she blows raspberries at them (thanks to my older kids for that!)

NorthernLurker · 21/04/2008 12:27

At 23 weeks B was only on two meals a day - one of which was just a small bowl of porridge - and she was born at term at a 'normal' weight. Both B and dd1 were at least 9 mths before they had three meals a day - with dd1 my hv looked very worried by this. With B - I just avoided the hv Milk is far more important - and calorific!

SparklyGothKat · 21/04/2008 12:28

i questioned him last week, about the fact that he forced formula onto us, when Callum was following a line. He just said that Callum had dropped through too many lines and needed it funny how now he isn't on the formula, he is dropping back to that bottom line

NotABanana · 21/04/2008 12:28

Your child, your decisions.

SparklyGothKat · 21/04/2008 12:30

i'm not increasing his solids atm, he needs milk more

OP posts:
soremummy · 21/04/2008 12:30

SGK he is lovely he looks quite long/tall

SparklyGothKat · 21/04/2008 12:31

he isn't, he wears 0-3 months clothes lol

OP posts:
NorthernLurker · 21/04/2008 12:31

You are absolutely right!

SparklyGothKat · 21/04/2008 12:39

we are doing BLW mainly anyway, he is able to feed himself, but we do do the mushed up stuff too. Didn't dare tell the doctor that we are doing BLW, he already thinks I am 'odd'

OP posts:
NorthernLurker · 21/04/2008 12:41

You should have said - he would have undoubtedly passed out and you could have made a quick exit

SparklyGothKat · 21/04/2008 12:44

lol! I think he thinks that we don't have Callum's best interests at heart, but we do. I must get in contact with the BF councillor we saw a few months back. She was very supportive

OP posts:
NorthernLurker · 21/04/2008 12:47

Well if that's what he's thinking the man is plainly a total loon! It's such a good thing you're awkward - I don't think many could keep going in the face of such relentless opposition.

SparklyGothKat · 21/04/2008 12:54

I told the SCBU nurse that if I had been a first time mum, between her and the doctor, I would have been scared into giving up BF, and that it wasn't on, that they should be supporting mums who want to BF, not make they feel that they are doing sometthing 'wrong'

OP posts:
NorthernLurker · 21/04/2008 12:55

That's the problem though isn't it - b/feeding is seen as an ideal - and they are all too ready to say 'oh well - not an ideal world, let's move on'
