Fish fingers, potato faced and beans for 1YO

WeeG123 · 16/09/2024 20:13

Tonight we fed our boy fish fingers, potato faces and beans for dinner and now we feel so guilty. He’s one and typically we batch cook meals like bolognese, butternut squash and chicken, baby curry, mince and potatoes etc. and freeze but we forgot to defrost one for tonight which resulted in tonight’s dinner. Are we being over sensitive? I just feel that I’m failing by my son after hearing what other children eat and find that some people are very judgy.

One meal?

Darkdiamond · 16/09/2024 20:15

I think feeding your child is a win. Don't sweat it.

CherryValley5 · 16/09/2024 20:15

OP, please be kind to yourself. Of course you’re doing nothing wrong - your son is happy and fed. It’s actually a very balanced meal and once in a while will do him no harm. Ignore the MN judgy crowd! His diet sounds fantastic otherwise and you certainly put a lot of effort into meal prepping for him. A night off is fine!!

Wrongsideofpennines · 16/09/2024 20:15

For the odd meal it's fine. If it was every meal then it's obviously not ideal as it will be high in sat fat and salt. But 1 meal occasionally is absolutely fine.

Surroundedbyfools · 16/09/2024 20:16

With all due respect I think you need to wise up. It’s one meal and there’s nothing wrong with it. There are children literally starving in the world

If you're worried about people being judgy what are you posting on this website for!!!!

I dont need to tell you there is nothing wrong with that meal

Choosingmiddleschool · 16/09/2024 20:17

Probably a bit high in salt and very processed but as a one off not the end of the world. You probably had healthier and quicker things already in the house. Cubes of cheese and some fruit, toast and peanut butter, eggs to scramble.

minipie · 16/09/2024 20:17

You’re right to worry. This is a slippery slope and he’ll be on nothing but Haribo and Big Macs by 5 and crack cocaine by 10.

Proseccoh · 16/09/2024 20:17

What kind of beans? It matters... Are we talking Baked beans? Green beans? Butter beans? Chocolate beans?

The MN judgy crowd? Who has judged?

You’re going great, don’t sweat it. Fish fingers - great way to get them used to the taste and texture of fish. Beans - lovely bit of fibre, absolute bugger to get the stains out of a white top! Potato smiles - nothing wrong with a little treat.

hockityponktas · 16/09/2024 20:19

Oh this is going to go well.
op you have nothing to worry about, your child is fed. A bit of convenience food every now and again in an otherwise balanced diet is absolutely fine.

WeeG123 · 16/09/2024 20:20

Thank you to those who are being kind and helping me calm. I think I will refrain from posting in future x

This is a wind up. The reasoning doesn't make sense - you forgot to defrost some bolognese? Don't you have a microwave? It defrosts in a minute. Even on the hob in warm water it would be as quick as cooking fish fingers.

Well surely that depends on how much of it there is, if it was a massive 4 portion block, not easy to defrost, so for quickness just shove something in the oven so that they can get on with something else

However for someone so worried about this sort of food and saying they cook from fresh its certainly unusual to have potato faces to hand so I hope its a genuine query.

Calliopespa · 16/09/2024 20:27

It’s fine as a one off. It’s not great as a normal meal.

Nobody on this thread! (edit: so far.. I’m sure they’ll be along in due course) However, it seems to be a common theme on MN these days that many posters act like giving kids the occasional bit of UPF, beige dinners etc is borderline child neglect. It’s quite ridiculous..

But that’s exactly how the op is acting herself 😂

FutureMandosWife · 16/09/2024 20:30

That's my sons favorite dinner, don't worry about it.

Probably conditioned by said crazed MN posters!

InTheRainOnATrain · 16/09/2024 20:37

Is everything ok? Because it’s not normal to be feeling like this over the occasional quick freezer meal. And you clearly eat the stuff since the smileys didn’t magic themselves into your freezer so you must know they’re fine in moderation! I don’t mean to sound harsh or anything but if you’re struggling with anxiety then there is help available via the GP. No one should be spiralling over feeding their child an adequate hot meal that just happens to be a bit less healthy than normal.

salt Comment is valid but the fat one is not. Babies and young children need fat

How come you had this in the house?
