Callum isn't feeding properly, he sucks for about a minute, and then screams.

I don;t know what to do. He isn't getting enough. Should I give up now?

How old is he? Could he have a sore mouth?

SparklyGothKat · 10/04/2008 16:18

6 months

can you see inside his mouth- is it possible he has thrush? My dd2 was like this and that was what the hv said it could be.

LilyMunster · 10/04/2008 16:20

how long has he been doing it? just this feed? or for days?

JodieG1 · 10/04/2008 16:22

Agree it could be thrush.

Monkeybird · 10/04/2008 16:22

teething? try dentinox? or calpol?

are you experiencing same letdown as usual?

becaroo · 10/04/2008 16:24

Is he ill?

If it has been going on for some time I would take him to GP to rule out illness.

Good luck.

NotABanana · 10/04/2008 16:26

Tummy ache?

LilyMunster · 10/04/2008 16:28

could be simple thing like wind or something...

SparklyGothKat · 10/04/2008 16:31

I generally don;t feel letdown, but he always has milk dribbling from his mouth. He doesn't have thrush, but is teething. I don;t know whether to give him formula or just keep at it, I am soooooo tired. Its been like this for a few days

Could be a growth spurt? They can get quite a lot out in a minute, much more than what you'd be able to express in the same time.

Might be why he needs to feed more often?

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 10/04/2008 16:37

If his teeth are giving him pain, he's no more likely to take from a bottle than he is from you. Just offer him a feed as often as possible.

Maybe some pain relief for him will help? If he feeds an hour or so after some nurofen/calpol, you'll know it's the teeth.

Hope things get better for you xx

LilyMunster · 10/04/2008 16:42

it does sound a little like a growth spurt tbh... maybe hes feeling hungry, trying to eat, his belly is full so he gets frustrated coz he cant fit any more in... leaves it, then in an hour hes all famished feeling again... and round we go.
if it is that, it'll pass in another day or two.

Notquitegrownup · 10/04/2008 16:46

I'd echo the teething suggestion. Calpol and calgel, which you rub on the gums.

SparklyGothKat · 10/04/2008 16:51

ok thanks, he seems so unsettled, will give him calpol.

OP posts:
callmeovercautious · 10/04/2008 16:52

Calpol then 10 mins later feed. DD got like this alot and it was the only thing that helped. Powders calmed her a bit as well but did not have the effect that Calpol has

SparklyGothKat · 10/04/2008 20:00

calpol didn;t work, he just keeps screaming!! He gets really angry and just won;t feed.. what should I do?

weasle · 10/04/2008 20:31

is he screaming ALL the time or just when you try to feed?

SparklyGothKat · 10/04/2008 21:05

all the time, it takes ages to settle him

shrinkingsagpuss · 10/04/2008 21:06

Has he had reflux? It sounds like a sore tummy, do you have any infant gaviscon?

SparklyGothKat · 10/04/2008 21:27

he had reflux when he was smaller, no gavison as he was on meds for it
