Yes he still small, he still wears 0-3 clothes at 28 weeks old. But he certainly isn't FTT anymore. He is a solid little boy. I am so pleased I kept BF him, because I am sure if I was a first time mum, I would have given up when the HCPs were forcing the issue of formula.

Oh I am sorry if I upset you. I was trying to show compassion. My cat waits on the driveway every day for us to get back from school and takes an age to move away from the car. The amount of time I park miles away from the end of the drive as I can't see her. Or else, she walks across the front of the car to the front door and then stops halfway to have a wash.

SparklyGothKat · 06/04/2008 18:11

Banana, I am not upset. I just struggle with it, It will take a while to get over it I think.

I know. My cat is 13 1/2 and I will be in bits when she goes. I have had her since she was 5 weeks old and small enough to sleep in a tissue box.

SparklyGothKat · 06/04/2008 18:37

I had Dory from a kitten, Dh brought her home from his friends for me. She was only 2

what a little cracker!

margosbeenplayingwithmynoonoo · 06/04/2008 18:57

I think it will really help others who are worried their children aren't steadily gaining weight. From experience, I know how scary it can be. Thanks SGK (and well done) Callum is lurvely.x

Bouncingturtle · 06/04/2008 19:10

Callum is just fab! Well done SparklyGothCat, you and your not so little man are an inspiration

SparklyGothKat · 06/04/2008 19:38

I think that the HCPs look at the charts too much, instead of looking at the child. Callum was tiny yet he was alert, smiling and happy, yes he looked skinny, but he was well. I am shocked at how I was made to feel for a few months, I would cry while feeding him, not knowing if it was making a difference that week. but I also knew that BM was the best thing for him, especially with him being premature.

He is looking great, a gorgeous wee man! Well done xx

rascal1979 · 06/04/2008 21:27

He is georgeous! You should be very proud of him!

SGK - Can I ask you what does Callum weigh now? My DD is 16 wks (7 wks corrected) and is only 5lb 12oz (last weighed Tues. It's estimated that she will be around 8-9lb at 6mths - which TBH is really worrying me but I'm determined to keep Breastfeeding.

She is still in newborn clothes which are TBH big on her but she has finally outgrown the 5lb clothes!

Has anyone else had a baby so small at 4mths....? (she was IUGR and weighed 2lb 1oz at birth)

SparklyGothKat · 06/04/2008 21:35

Callum is 21 weeks adjusted, and he was weighed a month ago and weighed 12lb 2oz. You have to remember that he was a very good weight for 33 weeks (4lb 8oz) and then dropped through the precentiles. He weighed 5lb 11oz at 9 weeks (2 weeks adjusted) At 7 weeks adjusted he was 8lb 6.

Your little one was very small and will only gain small amounts. The HCPs forget that the little ones can only take small amounts of milk, when we were topping up, we would try and get loads down him (via the tube) and he would then throw it up.

She is doing well, she has doubled her weight after all.

Thanks SGK - Just sometimes I get so scared that she is sooo small. No one else seems to have sucha small babyat 4mths. All the babies we were on SCBU with have started to or have caught up with their weight. Admittedly most are FF.

SparklyGothKat · 06/04/2008 23:16

Many babies in SCNU are FF because its easier for the nurses and also the parents can take them home sooner (no worries about how much milk they are getting)
Callum looked newborn for months, its only recently he has 'grown up' people used to say to me 'Oh he is a new one' and I would say 'err no he is 4-5 months' They would look at me like
I also believed that he would stay tiny forever, and now when I look at those pics of him when he came home, I can't believe he was that small.
Your DD is gaining weight (Callum wasn't for ages) and she is happy, enjoy her.

I have added a pic of Callum and DH and you can actually see how tiny he was.

SGK - reading this made me well up. you did (and continue to do) such a fabulous job with Callum! He's gorgeous!

SparklyGothKat · 07/04/2008 16:20

Thanks SDCC, last night are horrible, he was screaming, refusing to feed, I tried expressing and only got a tiny amount off. He ended up going to sleep in my arms and then dreamfeeding.

well, well, well!! todays appointment went ok.. Callum weighes 12lb 8oz now, and has dropped down onto the 2nd percentile, thats with breastfeeds and some food each day, I now think that he is supposed to be small. The doctor said that he never said I had to stop BF (lier!!) He said that Callum is devolping normally and is healthy.

rascal, my niece was IUGR and weighed 4 lb 3oz at 37 weeks. This was 15 years ago and I had no children so didn't know about weight and centiles ( tbh, I think the less everyone knew about centiles, the better!) I do know that I went for a check-up with my dsis when she was about 6 months old and the nurse assumed she was about 6 weeks old so she definitely was tiny! But she did eventually "catch up" IIRC, at 18 months she was much the same as other children and is taller than me now. Mind you that's not hard!
Also when she was in SCBU there was a very tall German doctor, lovely guy about 6ft 5 and gorgeous, and he told my dsis that he had only been 3lb at birth! My brother who was 10lb at birth is now only about 5ft 7. I think you end up how you were supposed to be, regardless of how you started out.

SparklyGothKat · 08/04/2008 23:28

Oh and he wants us to move to another clinic I think he see me as trouble..
