Hi everyone, ever since my baby boy turned 4 months he will only drink his bottles properly in his bedroom in the dark with white noise on, or he will have 2oz and give up, I don’t want to persist and force it too much to create a bigger problem but it’s really hard work, can’t go out with him for more than 2 hours at a time or I’m worried he won’t get enough milk in. He could be starving but just will not have the milk in any sort of different setting. Has anyone else dealt with this? Does it last or is this an association problem now, how can I resolve it?! It’s driving me up the wall?!

I’ve tried different teats, speeds, bottles. You name it I’ve probably done it he will only take Tommee tipped variflow or will go mental

Hiya, sorry you’re going through the same! He did have a while of being distracted, randomly it stopped though, I kept trying some downstairs first he might have took 2oz, the bottles times with his naps and gave the rest with his machine on and in his room and it worked. Just persist and it’s trying in a normal room/out but don’t to the point your forcing, when he stops or he’s getting irritated stop and just give the rest however he will take it. At the end of the day they have to drink however that might be.

I will say he got better eating food too. He started him earlier than 6 months and he’s now 10 months old he eats pretty well bar when teething but will take his bottles anywhere now. I don’t think he’s the biggest fan of milk, he has 3 a day soon to be 2 I think. It gets better when they start dropping them! Good luck, I know how frustrating it is when you’ve to plan everything around the way they’ll drink!

How long did it last for you? Mine was an overnight switch too! One minute was drinking 6-7oz 4hrly in the day anywhere, then all of a sudden struggled to get 2-3oz into her and basically refuses to eat out due to distractions.

Hey wondering if this got better for you? As my son is doing the same atm he’s 14 weeks old

Try switching to normal white noise. I know I’m an adult but I find the shushing noise really stressful. It puts me on edge when parents at work have them.

My DD was like this - and she had silent reflux. Please consider this and ask your GP for help.

Practically I started using a breastfeeding cover to help her settle when out and about. It occasionally met with a few comments, especially when DH was using it for bottle feeds! but it really helped settle her when we couldn’t find a quiet place.
