Uwila · 18/11/2004 16:12

Did anyone's baby come with the warning "can seriously damage your tit..."?

Just wondering.

nailpolish · 18/11/2004 16:14

here here fio2. its boring now. sana is a new mum and she asked a perfectly good question about her baby-to-be. why do we have to do all this arguing and not just give her the help and advice she was looking for?

prufrock · 18/11/2004 16:19

I used formula occasionally when dd was 4 months or so. I found that MA made her throw up - every time. But she liked cow and gate.

jude2105 · 18/11/2004 16:24

used C&G with them both - don't really know why - just did and they were fine! DD had mild reflux and i was advised to switch to Aptimil (apparently thicker), but i never bothered.

surfermum · 18/11/2004 23:37

We used SMA gold and never had a problem, but it's not very nice in tea.

I found it handy to have in one of the little ready made cartons for emergencies ... and got in some emergency longlife milk for the tea.

I don't recall it smelling if she was sick, but then can't remember her being sick much.

dinny · 19/11/2004 01:04

Aptamil, I reckon.

moondog · 19/11/2004 08:18

'controversy'is NOT me ok?!
I have let this one go a long time ago.
Pastures new and all that.

Personally I suspect that gobbledigook is trying to sully my good name.
Very underhand.

Gobbledigook · 19/11/2004 08:32

Whoa - hang on! What are you talking about Moondog? Where am I trying to sully your name?

I'm not 'controversy' if that's what you are thinking??? I've not been on these threads since yesterday morning (I was out all afternoon) and didn't intend to get back to them either as I feel they are getting rather out of hand.

Think I'll ask for that message to be deleted as that is most unfair.

moondog · 19/11/2004 09:12

Told you I had post partum paranoia...

miam · 19/11/2004 09:21

Aaaargh - is this ever going to end?????? Come on peeps - can we have a change of subject please? Pretty please? Thanks Love and hugs to each and every one of you xxxxx

artyjoe · 19/11/2004 09:52

Uwila, that's put a smile on my face on a freezing cold morning!

PuffTheMagicDragon · 19/11/2004 10:05

Moondog - hey I've never heard of anyone hallucinating through eating cheesecake, but there's always a first .

PuffTheMagicDragon · 19/11/2004 10:06

Unless of course you slipped in "something a little stronger" to liven up proceedings .

misdee · 19/11/2004 10:13

sma gold and white. easily available where i was.

pabla · 19/11/2004 10:59

Aptamil for all of mine once they were weaned from the breast. I asked a midwife what she would recommend when I was pregnant with my first (8 yrs ago) and she said thst Aptamil was at that time supposed to be closest to human milk (the LCPs I think were unique to Aptamil at the time). I have also used C&G Omneo (mainly for evening feed) in the hope of it making them more settled at night. Not sure it made much difference.

Rather than pre-sterilised bottles, you could consider trying the Playtex system, which also doesn't need sterilising (it was really useful when I had to go into hospital and baby came too and had to have some formula until my anesthetic wore off.)

SANA · 19/11/2004 15:25

Can i first thank those who have given helpful comments on selecting formula, please note I am not intrested in comments on bfing.

sana my cousin gets hers from her gps surgery, but ive seen it in safeway/morrisons.

MummyToSteven · 19/11/2004 15:28

they do it in my local boots. good places to find formula tend to be Boots, Superdrug, big Tesco/Sainsbury/Waitrose/Asda.

nailpolish · 19/11/2004 15:28

oh yeah forgot about boots

suedonim · 19/11/2004 16:00

Any chemist shop should be able to order formula for you, even if they don't usually stock that particular brand on a regular basis. Hth.

leglebegle · 19/11/2004 16:01

I've seen aptamil in my local sainsbury's and its not a large store.

jabberwocky · 19/11/2004 16:41

Just wanted to add that you might want to keep in mind that some babies are sensitive to the cow's milk based and do better with the soy. If baby has problems sleeping, excess gas, etc. just something to think about.

wordsmith · 19/11/2004 22:34

Most mothers I know say Aptamil is the best. I used C&G with my 1st but my 2nd didn't take to it, so I switched to Aptamil. (B/fing as well with both for first couple of mnths) He seemed to bring a lot of it back up and the HV suggested I tried Omneo Comfort which is VILE stuff - you have to make it up with virtually boiling water and if you don't mix it correctly it sort of coagulates in the bottle... YUK! However I swopped back to Aptamil at about 4 months and he was fine. I think a lot of babies are unsettled in the first three or four months, so if this happens with yours, don't panic, more likely than not things will settle down pretty soon.

Just to echo some of the other comments - don't let anyone pressurise you either way and keep an open mind about feeding your baby - you'll know what's best for him/her and you. Good luck!

milge · 19/11/2004 22:48

another aptamil fan here, but switched ds onto c&g hungrier baby powder ( blue box) at around 10 weeks to try and get him to settle for longer. Worked a treat, so switched dd ( twins) onto it around weaning time. Stuck to C&g for follow on milk too. Its trial and error, i think. Some babies bowels are more sensitive to some milks and can get constipated/diahorrea. A friends baby got v bad diahorrea from Aptamil, an went onto "green" c&g with no problem. Never tried Sma or farleys, so can't offer an opinion. Good luck in your choice
