Did you have any health implications at all whilst growing up up until now?

And even though on paper I am very unhealthy because I am very fat and unfit ( although hardly ever ill, Winter of 2018 was the last time I had a cold ) I still haven't had covid, even after being in close contact with people who were positive and symptomatic, perhaps the alcohol makes me a less hospitable host ? Wink

Both me and my brother, we are now 37 and 39. No major health concerns growing up although my brother is autistic and I have had to have my appendix removed. Dont think you can really blame formula milk for that though.

notacooldad · 15/07/2021 21:08

Me.
I'm 56.
No issues ( unless you count a broken bone from falling off a bike when I was 10 and a bladder operation after having ds 2.
My sister and brother are doing ok as well.

Tal45 · 15/07/2021 21:16

I have bad teeth and had to have several removed probably due to being bottle fed (my brother was BF and has perfect teeth). I also have IBS and had eczema as a child, my brother hasn't had either.

BuddleiasBeesAndButterflies · 15/07/2021 21:23

I was formula fed, I have IBS, allergies, psoriasis and eczema. My older sister and younger brother were breastfed and have none of these, I'm also quite short, they call me the runt Hmm. May just be coincidence but my DM thinks it's linked.

Dinosauratemydaffodils · 15/07/2021 21:36

Formula fed from birth, currently 43. My mum was underweight at the time and apparently never produced milk. Apart from chicken pox and rubella I had no sick days off school. I'm 5'8 so reasonably tall. No allergies, excellent skin and my teeth were fine until I puked my way through two pregnancies (they still aren't too bad). No allergies or autoimmune type illnesses.

Dh was breastfed for 18 months. He has eczema and allergies.

My 2 were breastfed for 16 weeks roughly (I hated it). They are both tall for their respective ages, no allergies and have only seen a Dr for routine checkups or injuries (smashing head into rocks/trapping finger in door etc).

Me. FF in the 1960s. University professor. Pretty healthy. Don't worry too much. The most important thing is that babies are fed and happy

Cloudninenine · 15/07/2021 21:41

I was breastfeed for 6 weeks then formula. No real health issues, but do have issues with appetite regulation and my weight. I’m sure breastfeeding v formula feeding is only one microscopic piece of that puzzle, however.

goddessofmischief · 15/07/2021 21:54

I was formula fed. Eczema and asthma. Only grew to be 5ft as an adult. Pretty sure none of that is down to formula. I was born premature (placental abruption), my sisters weren't. Both formula fed, normal sized adults and one also had eczema and asthma. Two of us went to Grammar school and one didn't get in, both of us with the health conditions I've mentioned.
DD was formula fed, she's tall and doesn't suffer from either condition. Also in line to attend a Grammar school.
Formula hasn't been an issue. Genetics.

I was and so was my husband. Me because I was adopted, husband because his mum had some health problems.

We were fine apart from the usual childhood illnesses.

I actually know quite a lot of people who were bottle fed with no ill effects.

GreyhoundG1rl · 16/07/2021 01:12

I actually know quite a lot of people who were bottle fed with no ill effects.
I'd imagine there are literally millions of people who were formula fed with no ill effects. It's not exactly a risky business.
Strange thread.

NatMoz · 16/07/2021 06:09

FF, never ill, very healthy with strong immune system.

I genuinely don't think it makes a difference. Some people will have hayfever etc but I think that is more down to genetics than how they were fed as a child.

LongTimeMammaBear · 16/07/2021 06:27

Just about everyday of my generation were bottle fed and most of my friends bottle fed. I was very much the odd one out. I have no issues. My brother had no issues. The only one with “issues” may be considered my sister as she has hay fever allergy. Which of course now we know are the result of genes, not whether or not you’re breast fed or bottle fed as babies.

foilballoon · 16/07/2021 10:38

Can't really prove anything but dh and his brother completely ff have terrible stomach problems, has had to have several investigative medical procedures, constantly in pain but nothing come about from it. Both he and his brother have similar issues, his sister who was bf has none of them.

Of course there could be a number of reasons for this but I do wonder about the effects of putting something even a slightly different weight and substandard inside a tiny newborn system. (And no I'm not simply pro bf, I fed my own dc formula as well as bf but it has crossed my mind)

foilballoon · 16/07/2021 10:39

Substance not substandard!

foilballoon · 16/07/2021 10:40

Oh and both have allergies, asthma and awful hay fever but again no proof of why but somehow his sister escaped all of it.

LadyFuschia · 16/07/2021 10:50

I was, so was my sister, so was my first baby.
I have no allergies and only in the last ten years do I get a slight reaction to certain foods in an IBS sense but nothing too dreadful. I’m rarely ill.

Sister complains of being bloated and reacting to some foods but also has some issues around disordered eating so hard to know how bad this is really. No allergies, never ill.

DD has no allergies but gets mild hay fever and has sensitive skin inherited from her dad. She is really healthy. None of us have ever had a vomiting bug and she is almost 13.

DH was breastfed but weaves around 3-4 months I guess - he has loads of issues around hay fever & eczema.

I agree that it is likely any statistically significant effect would have been noted by now.
