Goats milk

Honey1994 · 03/09/2018 14:43

I have changed my baby's milk from cows milk to goats milk,
Her poo has gone from a soft mustardy type to hard stools and is in real pain passing
Is this normal and will this eventually change??

Why did you change it?

Honey1994 · 03/09/2018 15:51

It's meant to be better for them apparently so I gave it a go

dementedpixie · 03/09/2018 15:54

It's obviously not agreeing with her so I'd switch back

NerrSnerr · 03/09/2018 16:00

How old is your baby? Have you discussed it with your heath visitor?

It looks like it's not agreeing with your child so you might have to change back.

Honey1994 · 03/09/2018 16:13

She's 6 weeks old,
I got a visit tomorrow,

I thought maybe her stomach needs to get used to it but I don't know

She should only have been having breast or formula. Not cows or goats. You must discuss this as a priority with your health visitor and/or doctor.

NerrSnerr · 03/09/2018 17:48

6 weeks old? Is it just normal goats milk or formula? (Does goat's formula exist?)

At that age they need formula or breastmilk.

dementedpixie · 03/09/2018 17:49

It will be goats milk formula (I hope!) And yes it does exist

NerrSnerr · 03/09/2018 17:52

You learn something new every day, thank you.

OP definitely chat to the health visitor about it but I would follow your baby's lead. Go with what you think causes a the least (or no) discomfort.

Honey1994 · 03/09/2018 17:53

Yeah they do a formula , I have to order it into store as they don't stock it, next best thing to breast to

OP posts:
Honey1994 · 03/09/2018 17:55

I have a visit tomorrow , but it could just be the change (I hope)

It's not cheap either 😂

OP posts:
dementedpixie · 03/09/2018 18:16

But who says it's next best thing to breast milk? The manufacturers maybe!

DitchingTheDye · 03/09/2018 21:30

Yes, it's all marketing. One formula is as good as another. Was there a particular reason you wanted to change?

Honey1994 · 03/09/2018 22:18

I heard a few say goats was better for them /us

OP posts:
nhssecretary · 03/09/2018 22:19

My son thrive on goat formula

nhssecretary · 03/09/2018 22:19

It's more similar to human

Mayhemmumma · 03/09/2018 22:23

I gave my DD goats milk but at 1yo, she refused does milk totally but still has s bit of goats milk at 7yo on cereals etc.

Your baby sounds very dehydrated so I don't think the formula is suiting him is it made up correctly?

I'd change back.

DitchingTheDye · 04/09/2018 06:12

All first milk formulas have to have a certain make-up by law. There will be little difference between them apart from how they are marketed.

Honey1994 · 04/09/2018 21:39

I am noticing. Her skins starting to break out on her face and ears

She's sick more and not pooing right

Is this a bad reaction from milk and would it affect her if I change back ??

OP posts:
dementedpixie · 04/09/2018 21:41

Try changing back and see if it improves things.

Bumdishcloths · 04/09/2018 22:03

Consult GP or health visitor. People on Mumsnet are not qualified to give advice about a 6 week old babysydiet or related symptoms.

dementedpixie · 04/09/2018 22:23

Maybe that should have been done before changing the milk in the first place! If they were ok with the cows milk based formula then I don't see the problem with going back to it

chugging · 04/09/2018 22:25

It should say on the tin of goats milk formula that it is not suitable for a main drink for small babies. I bought some as a supplementary drink for my one year old when she couldn't handle cows milk and all the packaging was very clear that it wasn't a suitable replacement

If you're not breastfeeding and you think your child has a cows milk allergy, you need to use a hypoallergenic formula like Nutrigamen or Alfamino. You can buy it but you can also have it prescribed. Don't use goats milk formula.

dementedpixie · 04/09/2018 22:27

Goats milk formula is perfectly fine to use from birth now. It used to not be licensed for use but that changed

chugging · 04/09/2018 22:28

I've just checked and apparently the legislation has changed recently so they can market it as a complete formula. My point still stands though: If you think your baby can't tolerate cows milk formula you need to investigate hypoallergenic formula via GP and dietician.
