wtf!?

A woman on bbc news now, with pretty strange views

'women should breastfeed before they leave the house, it's not fair on others to sdo it in public'

Well, she's a bit silly really isn't she?

moondog · 14/05/2007 08:20

Oh another loon with a fuckked up head.Ignore.

belgo · 14/05/2007 08:21

just caught the end - looked pretty heated!

Kif · 14/05/2007 08:23

I find the smell of oily fish rather offensive actually. If you wouldn't mind eating your mackrel before you leave the house....

I personally don't see the issue here - if you're discreat and don't wap our your whole boob where's the problem - most of the time you can't tell anyways unless you're ogaling/right up close.

I persoanlly never had the confidence to BF in public partly thru fear and also I didn't want to be told to stop get embaressed and flustered etc so always took ebm - but even thewn had people looking at me like I should be BF - sometimes you can't win.

scienceteacher · 14/05/2007 08:26

I wonder if other people eating in restaurants puts her off as well

beansprout · 14/05/2007 08:26

Am I bovvered?

Why should I be concerned about the views of a hung up prude?

babyonboard · 14/05/2007 08:27

She did seem a bit confused, a couple of minutes later she was defending womens rights to breastfeed in public!?

OP posts:
McDreamy · 14/05/2007 08:28

If she ate her lunch before she went out then she wouldn't have to go into restaurants and be offended - just an idea!

Rantum · 14/05/2007 08:30

I always took a large summer scarf and draped it over myself and ds while he was feeding. An onlooker would not have seen anything!

Each to their own, but personally I think young mothers have to give up enough of their lives when they have a young baby. I for one will never stay insidejust in case my baby needs to be fed because some lunatic thinks that there is something unnatural about bfing.

The only way to fight these attitudes is to ignore them IMO (although I know that that is easier said than done)

milkymill · 14/05/2007 08:31

I have just started a similar thread on chat. What planet is this vile woman on? .

Rantum · 14/05/2007 08:34

In Scotland, where I live, her point of view is largely irrelevant.

She said that when she bf she did so before she left her house. Well bully for her that she had a baby that would feed to her perfectly planned schedule!

munz · 14/05/2007 08:40

qwuite, I distinctly remember feeding j then rushing into town thinking right i've got an hour and half to get all I need before getting home again to feed him - sad thing was in our town there wasn't even a public feeding room (garden chair in the loo) and i'll be buggered if I was gonna feed him on the loo and make us both uncomfortable etc.

will feed in public next time!

Trinityrhino · 14/05/2007 08:41

just the other day I was feeding outside a cafe sitting at one of their outdoor tables. gecko is nearly four months now and quite long. A lady who walked up from behind me stopped and said "aww what a quiet little baby"
I said " shes feeding" with a smile
and the lady said "oooo wonderful, I didn't notice"

......and then leaned RIGHT in for a good look and stroked geckos cheek!

It was nice to have such a positive response

LittleMouseWithCLogsOn · 14/05/2007 08:43

i just dont see WHY peopel feel they see more when you breastfeed than you do in a low cut top

ir eally dont
i use dto turn to a side
bung on baby( wasnt very good)
and then trun over wiht baby under a thisrt often
you codul see a slight overhang of tummy if you were lying down on the floor looking up at me.
freaks

MaeWest · 14/05/2007 08:43

A woman came up to me when in M&S cafe when I was feeding DS and told me that he was 'a very lucky baby' Obviously didn't put her off her lunch!

compo · 14/05/2007 08:44

sometimes these weirdo people who found it so offensive say it's not because tey can see anything but becuse they find the thought of something sucking on a human breast yukky. All the sucking noises too. Nothing to do with what they could or couldn't see

harpsichordcarrier · 14/05/2007 08:45

I think people get yucked out by the idea of the bodily fluids thing. It probably does seem weird if you're not used to it.
people should get a grip though

LittleMouseWithCLogsOn · 14/05/2007 08:45

i always try and smeil reassuringly at breastfeeding mums.

tis har do spot them though ime as they are so discreet

beansprout · 14/05/2007 08:46

If someone is offended by b/feeding there is basically no hope for them. Probably slightly easier to negotiate with a terrorist.

compo · 14/05/2007 08:48

definitely agree with the bodily fluids comment....

compo · 14/05/2007 08:48

I don't get yucked out by it but understand that some people do
