Do we really need all these breastfeeding photos/news articles?

Do we really need to see all this all over the place?

It has gotten to the point where it is being shoved down our throats (no pun intended) and it is making bf quite unappealing on so many levels.

what happened to it being a loving,PRIVATE thing between mother and baby?

Do we really need to see it all over the place and boobs everywhere?

ROFL whoever posted about the OP confusing breasts and baldy men!

I don't think there is nearly enough bfeeding done in public, I think normalising it is the best way to up the number mothers who choose to feed their baby this way.

I also think the way in which the breast works should be included into GCSE science syllabus...

mooma3 · 12/08/2015 20:02

To whoever said i had a posting history - wtf?
If you have done a search for me on here that is like stalking and you need to get a life!

www.dailymail.co.uk/health/article-2568426/Breast-milk-no-better-baby-bottled-milk-INCREASES-risk-asthma-expert-claims.html

Just so you know I bf all 3 of my children but i managed to do it without publicising it to the world or discussing it with everyone i met or making a big deal about it.

Who cares how anyone feeds their baby as long as they feed it?
There is no difference - bottle or breast and it is women like you all who need to take a good hard look at yourselves and see how judgemental and up your own arses you are!

I think we need to see far more breastfeeding. On TV adverts, on billboards, on buses, at bus stops...images of mothers breastfeeding everywhere. Then it might stand a chance of eventually becoming a non-story.

As long as there are folk like you, OP, insisting it needs to be private, we need bf promotion.

sleepyhead · 12/08/2015 20:10

I like the naked bf yoga mum. It makes me laugh Grin

CheekyMaleekey · 12/08/2015 20:18

Crap thread, OP.

I think you're slightly insane. Hth.

RolyPolierThanThou · 12/08/2015 20:19

Isn't it breastfeeding awareness week or something? That might explain why the op it's seeing milky boobies everywhere (well fb and some media sites).

ShipShapeAhoy · 12/08/2015 20:22

Just so you know I bf all 3 of my children but i managed to do it without publicising it to the world or discussing it with everyone i met or making a big deal about it.

I'd call that a public declaration of how you fed your children.

CurlyhairedAssassin · 12/08/2015 20:23

OP, you're as bad as an embarrassed prudey parent who doesn't like the idea of sex education for children. Sex is a normal bodily function. BF is a normal bodily function. And before anyone argues that pooing is a normal bodily function but we all do that in private, pooing is unhygienic, smelly and at times noisy and undignified and no-one wants to be watched/watch doing that! (Unless you're into wierd stuff like that)

I admit I DO get annoyed at the constant assertion that unless you BF you're doing your child a gross disservice. And the implication that mothers who failed to BF didn't try hard enoigh. But I will always, always support the idea of BF any time, any place. It is totally natural and I really cannot understand the issue that (DM) readers have with it.

I have been watching the Tribe recently and it was refreshing to see the normal way kids were nourished. (I think Granny even BF the kids at times). I support wet nursing, tandem feeding, all of it. How odd that others DON'T.

CurlyhairedAssassin · 12/08/2015 20:24

And anyway, the reason BF is promoted in the media at the moment is that it's something like national breastfeeding week (or some other "day" or "week".)

shitebag · 12/08/2015 20:30

I have to say I do sort of see where you're coming from OP.

I breastfed my daughter for 16 months, I was happy to speak about it and I happily fed everywhere and anywhere I had to BUT I did do it discreetly with the two top method both for my comfort and because I was very uncomfortable around a breasrfeeding friend who would literally pull her top up with one arm out so it was up around her neck with breasts fully exposed and she admitted that she did it this way to "raise awareness" Hmm

There are millions of women who just feed and get on with life but there seems to be a rising trend (certainly through Facebook) to expose as much as you can, take selfies and look down your nose at anyone who dares to take a second look. I'm not saying that's what the media is doing but it does seem to be a "thing" right now and it does feel a bit like we're being bombarded.

MovingOnUpMovingOnOut · 12/08/2015 20:31

"friend who would literally pull her top up with one arm out so it was up around her neck with breasts fully exposed and she admitted that she did it this way to "raise awareness" Hmm"

Bollocks you did.

CultureSucksDownWords · 12/08/2015 20:33

You started this thread about breastfeeding... not any one else. That seems to be making it a big deal.

If breastfeeding is a normal thing that doesn't need any discussion then these kinds of pictures and articles shouldn't enrage you should they? At most, you might muster a passing interest and perhaps see a nice picture of a mother feeding a baby and think "ahh".

shitebag · 12/08/2015 20:36

Actually that is completely true, the first time she did it was in my house and I thought fair enough she feels comfortable here then she proceeded to do it in our local shopping centre I was mortified!

When I asked if she wanted a muslin or something out of the pram she told me to "chill, its only normal" and "the more it happens the more normal it becomes".

I didn't have DD then and it did put me off Breastfeeding as I thought it must be normal but turns out there are more discreet ways thankfully.

CultureSucksDownWords · 12/08/2015 20:39

I wish people didn't expect women to feed "discreetly", as if it's something that is indecent if done wrong. Even this friend who wanted to take half her top off isn't wrong to do that. It isn't what everyone would do but it isn't indecent or indiscreet.

Yes, what is it with the "do it discreetly" brigade?! This is as a result of our highly sexualised culture. It's so so sad.....

CultureSucksDownWords · 12/08/2015 20:44

You know you didn't post in AIBU or Chat don't you? I hope no one struggling to feed comes across this thread whilst looking for support.

If nearly everyone disagrees with you, telling them all to fuck off is perhaps an unwise reaction. It might be better to have a think about why no one agrees with you. It is also perfectly possible to disagree and have a debate without resorting to insults.

Titsalinabumsquash · 12/08/2015 20:45

Gosh, try telling my 4 month old DD that she needs to wait until we're somewhere private to have a feed! YABU, if she wants feeding I'll feed her, I'm not arsed what anyone else thinks about it, my breasts are for feeding my babies so that's what they shall do.

shitebag · 12/08/2015 20:45

Okay maybe my wording was off but it was just my personal choice to be discreet and I was mortified when she pretty much took off her top but that's just me, I grew up amongst friends and family (she was the first person I knew to breastfeed) who thought/think that its disgusting and shouldn't be allowed outdoors so perhaps that's coloured my view a bit.

mooma3 · 12/08/2015 20:49

lmao - did you read all the post culture?

I refrained from any insults till now.
mumsnet peolple have a reputation for being insulting and over the top opinionated and often the only way to get their attention if to lower oneself to their level.

this is a very small group of women who do not agree and in retrospect i should never have even for a second that women from somewhere like this would have given it any other thought than their very narrow minded ones.

the problem here is that pretty much everyone has decided to take this post one way when it was meant another.

It has been turned into something it was not meant to be and for that i am going.

it is crazy and totally hilarious and down right sad all at the same time

Roseotto · 12/08/2015 20:53

In answer to the OP, yes we do.

This thread shows exactly why. This week I breastfed on the train, tube, in the science museum, in vsrious coffee shops. I try to be discreet but that's my choice; it isn't always possible. If you don't like, don't look.

CelibacyCakeAndFuckThePO · 12/08/2015 20:53

Pahahaaa!!!!!

OP has had a tantrum.

Nobody agrees with you so you spit out your dummy and throw a strop.

Ah, thank you. Excellent entertainment.

LumelaMme · 12/08/2015 20:54

OP, I think there's only one way to take your post: 'Keep that breastfeeding out of sight...'
I didn't. I BF everywhere my baby needed feeding.

MovingOnUpMovingOnOut · 12/08/2015 20:55

I'd explain why your post is ironic and bigoted but I fear you wouldn't understand :(

Why don't you stop being so narrow minded? Or do you hate all forms of food delivery system? What about ice cream cones? Or the humble fork? Do they get you all riled up too or is it just breasts that make you all hot and bothered?
