Subjected to inane tv in the gym,saw ad for said product, and summat along the lines of
'You've given him C&G all along to help him grow so why stop now??'

Yeah, why stop being completely and utterly ripped off for even longer than you already have been, you dullard of a mother???

I checked out the price this afternoon.

I wonder how long before they do some sort of special yoghurt...

lulumama · 07/11/2006 23:02

my HV is quite vocal in her disapproval of formula advertising, esp follow on milk..so i imagine this would get very short shrift,,,

how is this supposed to be better than moo juice & a balanced diet? what is in it that is better..allegedly?

lulumama · 07/11/2006 23:03

wehn i say formula advertising.. i mean the claims they make re closest to breast milk and all that stuff......which has been debated here quite a bit...so lets not go there!

Carmenere · 07/11/2006 23:04

I have a tin of it in the cupboard because dd(2.8) likes the very occasional bottle and we don't drink much milk in this house so it is handy.

VeniVidiVickiQV · 07/11/2006 23:05

A sample/leaflet was in the Bounty pack i got when DD was 6 months - that was end 2003.

I'd say it could be useful for fussy eater toddlers, but, I dont see why plain old formula wouldnt be just as good tbh.

moondog · 07/11/2006 23:05

Is it powdr?
Have only seem placcy bottles of it.

VeniVidiVickiQV · 07/11/2006 23:06

Yes "convenience" bottles seem to be a huge player in the marketing of this stuff.

moondog · 07/11/2006 23:06

I wonder what cost difference is?
I've seen a pint of 'GU' for about 99p I think.

How much is a pint of regular milk then?

OP posts:
Carmenere · 07/11/2006 23:07

Oh no now you mention it, it is the follow on milk powder stuff that I have. No I wouldn't buy that growing up shoite in the bottles.

moondog · 07/11/2006 23:08

Pint anyone?
How much?

OP posts:
WhizzBangCaligula · 07/11/2006 23:10

Pint of cowsmilk is about 50p

VeniVidiVickiQV · 07/11/2006 23:14

34p here.

VeniVidiVickiQV · 07/11/2006 23:15

and 45p for a 200ml bottle of c & g follow on milk.

VeniVidiVickiQV · 07/11/2006 23:16

a 500ml pack for 12-36 months (FFS!) is £3.69.

sharkjump · 07/11/2006 23:18

We have a bottle of 'follow-on' in the cupboard. Left here by friends whose strapping 3 year old we occasionally babysit.

They left it with us 'because it's really convenient for journeys'.

Naaaah. Water in an IKEA sippy cup, much easier.

VeniVidiVickiQV · 07/11/2006 23:21

a 1.13L bottle of organic whole milk is 81p.

I work it out to be over 9 x the price of "normal" organic milk.

You could buy some decent fruit and veg to with the "normal" milk.

Quootiepie · 07/11/2006 23:23

quick link, ds crying, dunno if relevant

Or, a milk?

Does follow on milk actually taste nice?

I know that formula tastes foul! Mind you, I think ALL milk tastes foul

AitchTwoOh · 07/11/2006 23:33

they are marketing it quite aggressively in supermarkets.
i was accosted by a woman behind a well-stocked pedestal the other day who asked me how old dd was and then brightly informed me that she would only have to wait another two months til she could start on the follow-on. 'it's got extra vitamins and minerals in it' she told me.
i summoned up the spirit of MN and told her huffily that there were plenty of 'vitamels and minerins' in her food, thanks. aside from the humiliating malapropism i believe i made my point.
(my mother, who was with me, was doubled over the supermarket trolley with mirth. she's very supportive.)

WhizzBangCaligula · 07/11/2006 23:37

LOL.

So now they're going to claim they're doing the world a favour, so you can feed your kids turkey twizzlers and chips as they can get all their vitamins and minerals from the overpriced milk.

Great idea.

AitchTwoOh · 07/11/2006 23:40

(slight hijack but thanks for the backup on that other thread, caligula... don't really get the 'rot in hell' MN contingent...)

VeniVidiVickiQV · 07/11/2006 23:43

Quite, caligula!

Wht other thread H?

WhizzBangCaligula · 07/11/2006 23:44

You're welcome Aitch!

AitchTwoOh · 08/11/2006 00:18

it's called 'poor baby'. utterly depressing, firstly for the terrible story of a wee boy who was murdered by his mother's boyfriend. second for the 'string her up' brigade who appeared to wax lyrical about how they would never let something like that happen.
to be fair, the mother does seem culpable (and the court thinks so too) but i was pretty surprised by the violence of some of the MNers' comments. totally grim, the whole thing.
