chewing my boobs off...

Either he will or I will! My 9 week old baby has been feeding all the time today and he's chewing my boobs, bucking back and forward and hitting them. Every time I take him off he screams and screams. he falls asleep for about half an hour and then wakes up crying. Hes nearly bent backwards when hes feeding, kicking, etc. He's on reflux medication already. I am at the end of my tether- feel like I've run out! Please help- wtf is going on with him????

No experience with bf sorry but have you tried him with a dummy if you think he's using you more for comfort

wwbuffydo · 18/04/2015 22:42

OP if you ask HQ they'll move this to the infant feeding section for you. Loads of great advice there and you might get more traffic!

Poor you! Sounds tough! As long as he's pooing and putting on weight, this can be totally normal. Could be a growth spurt? Generally only lasts a short period of time. Can u kick back, put on a DVD and let him do it? I. Know it's hard, but it gets better and he's still so little.
U could also try a sling?

wwbuffydo · 18/04/2015 22:48

Thank you- erm how do I speak to HQ??? Its on and off for a few weeks- it could be comfort but it doesn't seem to be making him any more comfortable Grin

When mine were angry like that and seemed to want to feed, but couldn't, it was wind that was the problem.
It's a long long time ago- but I think we bent them slightly forward and rubbed their backs. Nothing harsh. You used to get gripe water - no idea if you still do. Probably some law against it these days!
Hope they settle.

ponybark · 18/04/2015 22:55

yep sounds like a growth spurt - it will pass after a few days. My DS did this. Nightmare. It seems like nothing will satisfy them even though you are feeding 24/7. Should go back to normal again soon!

wwbuffydo · 18/04/2015 22:58

God I sound moany! Sorry. The sling works for walking around but I'm knackered and lying down just now- its like he's struggling against something if he's not feeding iyswim? I generally do watch a huge amount of Gray's anatomy but its worse than normal tonight- he's furious when he's not feeding and struggling when he is. Its not really possible to watch telly because of that and ( decking icing on cake) I'm in charge of organising my mums birthday party tomorrow- I know that should take second place but I'm panicking about it not getting sorted- this sounds totally ridiculous but I had to make paper flowers and egg mayonaise tonight and I've not been able to leave him at all to do it. I just wondered if there is something I'm doing wrong or some reason why he's never ever full up- other than him being a baby. Sorry- I'm shattered and a bit emotional!!!

I think it's wind too. Try winding as described above with a gentle forward bend. When you get the wind up then you could try swaddling in a nice big muslin or something.

wwbuffydo · 18/04/2015 22:59

And I don't even like eggs. Sigh.

Greenstone · 18/04/2015 23:01

Don't be sorry about moaning! It's so tiring and frustrating. But you are 9 weeks postnatal and should not be in charge of birthday planning

ponybark · 18/04/2015 23:03

i have heard about something called tongue tied when they have a tongue issue that means they can't suckle that well, just in case is it worth getting that checked out - is he putting on weight?

otherwise it really does sound like a growth spurt. I had this with DS when he was born and it drove me nuts. No matter how much he was on the boob nothing satisfied. He rammed me with his head angrily even when he was suckling. It passed after a few days. As he got bigger this happened less and less.

Breastfeeding is hard!!

hobNong · 18/04/2015 23:04

In the early days my dd cluster fed a lot but she also had a period of sounding a bit like your ds and it turned out to be colic. Infacol really worked for her.

wwbuffydo · 18/04/2015 23:04

That has crossed my mind too greenstone! In my less generous moments. To be fair my sisters and cousins are helping lots.

If you want your thread moved then report your first post and write a message in the report.

wwbuffydo · 18/04/2015 23:08

He does have a wee tongue tie but nothing that interferes with him feeding apparently. He's on infacol already but doesn't make much difference tbh. Thankcyou though.

He may be going through growth spurt, both mine did this when milk wasn't fast enough for them. Does he drain the breast?
A good rub on the back over your knee might do the trick if it's painful wind.

Infacol brought up my lo's wind but also their milk too!! I think it worked a bit too well. Congrats on newborn op x

scratchandsniff · 18/04/2015 23:14

No real advice to give but offering my sympathy. Going through similar here. It's shit. It will get easier.....eventually.

I'd give infacol a try if he's struggling to bring up wind. You need to keep it up for a few days.

wwbuffydo · 18/04/2015 23:15

Thank you- it is like the milk isn't coming fast enough. O idea what to do about that though!

OP posts:
scratchandsniff · 18/04/2015 23:16

Sorry hadn't seen your last post about infacol.

If DC2 still bad on Monday I'm going to try osteopath. Used one with DC1.

wwbuffydo · 18/04/2015 23:22

I heard that can help scratch and sniff, but my dh is totally against them. I would give anything a go if it works! let me know how it turns out- I'm not above sneaking him in for an appointment...hope it gets better for you. I dont know if they are drained, but my boobs feel like they are being put through a pasta machine!

He's finally gone to sleep-_thank you everyone Flowers. I'm off to pintrest paper roses!

scratchandsniff · 18/04/2015 23:31

you feel like you'd track down unicorn poo if someone said it would work!
You're not alone - helps me to know I'm not only one going through it iykwim. The early hours with a fussy baby can feel like a lonely place.
