are more likely to grow into happy adults.

It made me feel happy because I have a very poorly ds who has lots of health problems and I thought to myself "At least he is breastfeeding and I so hope it will help him in some way as he grows up."

And that's the spirit that this is intended in, so please don't jump on me!

(yes I am glad it is making you feel better too emkana, breastfeeding isgiving him a fantastic start)

NothingButAttitudeOnMN · 01/11/2006 20:09

why oh why oh why

another stupid bit of uneeded information, was it the sun by any chance?

harpsichordsgoingBANGandWHOOSH · 01/11/2006 20:11

that's very interesting emkana, thanks for that.

emkana · 01/11/2006 20:12

another link

I think the second says exactly the same as the first, sorry.

oh PARP
WHY is this stupid and unneeded??
it seems to be a pretty substantial stdy (2500 subjects over 16 years)
why is that stupid?

SSSandy · 01/11/2006 20:13

dunno how you can be sure about them growing into happier adults really but you definitely aren't harming him! How did it work out with the specialist? Did you ever get the referral?

SherlockLGJ · 01/11/2006 20:13

Oh great I can hardly wait, to see just how miserable my adult child is going to be and the extent of his mental health problems.

God I love MN a great source of information.

emkana · 01/11/2006 20:15

Specialist appointment is on the 6th of December.

Exactley sandi, b-feeding is fantastic but all this crap about it making happier adults is just ridiculous

misdee · 01/11/2006 20:15

[sighs and walks off again]

not getting into this.

LucyJones · 01/11/2006 20:16

that areticle is all about children, not adults (well the 2nd link anyway, haven't read the first!)

emkana · 01/11/2006 20:17

I am certainly not getting into any sort of discussion.

This was a feeling I had today and which I felt like expressing on MN, which I have every right to do.

It is a loooooooooong time since a BF thread on MN made me feel inadequate and indeed incompetent.

So I am now going to leave this thread.

LucyJones · 01/11/2006 20:18

Sherlock - there is nothing wrong with Emkana posting something she has found and saying it makes her feel happy surely

Yes, I was just about to say that LucyJones, they're only 16 so far. It looks like a reasonable well-controlled study, though, albeit with a fairly minimal effect. I completely agree with harpsi- I despair at how often huge studies are mentioned on MN and people wade it and say "oh that's not the case for me- the study's bollocks".

I'm glad it's helped, emkana.

WaitingForGodKnows · 01/11/2006 20:20

Oh, you know why, socci. Because it is the goal of every breastfeeding mother to make formula-feeding mothers feel like shit. It's our sole aim in life.

PARP.

misdee · 01/11/2006 20:21

exactly socci. breastfeeding is wonderful, and if it means children and adults are happier in later life, surely thats an extra benefit.

but i am walkign away now.

emkana · 01/11/2006 20:23

I found it of particular relevance to my ds as he is likely to be of short stature in adult life and so will have psychological and social problems to overcome.

SSSandy · 01/11/2006 20:24

who or what are you poking at capp?

misdee · 01/11/2006 20:25

she is poking herself not to post lol.

northerner · 01/11/2006 20:27

How can it possibly make you happier as an adult? And how can they possibly prove it FGS?

Maybe they just picked 200 miserable sods who just happenned to be formula fed? Did they take into account any other life changes - bereavemnet/parents divorcing etc or are they solely looking at how the infant was fed?

If so, then this research is seriously flawed.
