Breastfeeding. Help.

Am breastfeeding my 2 day old. Milk is coming in, boobs are solid. She just about latches on. Feeding for less time than yesterday. When will boobs start to soften so she finds it easier to latch on?

Thanks

I'm sure someone more knowledgeable will be along soon. But when my milk came in, I expressed off just a little to reduce the pressure before a feed if I could but if not just when they felt really full.
I also found that cold flannels on my boobs helped as I was so hot from the pressure of so much milk. After about 24 hours it calmed down.
There's some more advice on the Kellymom website too

Are you at home? Do you know how to hand express? Do you have a breast pump?

Batmam · 04/10/2014 23:43

Yes definitely hand express into the sink before a feed to release enough nipple for a good latch otherwise you'll get sore. Good luck

hi there
First of all CONGRATS on the new baby! HOW EXCITING (must stop clucking) Grin Grin Grin

Secondly, we have moved your thread to our breastfeeding topic where you're more likely to find other mums who've been in just your position.
My recollection of this painful solid part was that warm flannels helped too and also hand expressing helped as has been stated I think.

GOOD LUCK

Don't worry - within 24 hours you should be up and running. Recommend expressing to relieve the pressure and make the nipple easier to get a grip on. As PP said hot flannel/shower is good too if you don't have a pump.
First couple of weeks can be really hard but keep at it - gets so much easier once you and your baby get a bit of practice in.
I'm currently BFing my 16 week old DS2 so remember well the milk coming in....
And congratulations on your little one Thanks
