Unofficial reasons for breastfeeding - lighthearted

VeloWoman · 23/09/2014 14:36

I though we could make a list of all the reasons why breastfeeding is awesome once you get the hang of it that they don't tell you at nct etc.

1 you can play candy crush and breastfeed simultaneously

2 you have a good excuse to eat more cake

3 you can breastfeed and post in mn at the same time

Feel free to add!

You can stick a hat on your baby that looks like a boob and enjoy the shocked double takes Grin

Definitely being able to sit down and have somebody else doing all of the running around. 'I'm so sorry I can't get up. Please help yourself to a cup of tea/ the vaccuum cleaner/washing the dishes etc.'

Cake absolutely!

ShergarAndSpies · 23/09/2014 14:40

You can be all 'sigh, I have to feed the baby again...'

While settling down in the comfiest part of the sofa with control of the TV remote and demanding cups of tea and food from anyone who walks past.

ShergarAndSpies · 23/09/2014 14:41

DS was a monster cluster-feeder and one weekend was spent with me almost permanently on the sofa with DP running about for me.

Except that actually DS was just asleep at the boob and I was feeling too lazy to do anything that day Wink

CultureSucksDownWords · 23/09/2014 17:10

I caught up on so many TV shows that I hadn't managed to watch up until that point, whilst bfeeding DS. Series after series of them!

I also adored my DS falling asleep on my lap after a bfeed - don't tell anyone, but he had the majority of his naps on me from 0 till 9 months.

Boobsofsteel · 23/09/2014 17:11

I'm too lazy to sit up at night Grin

NormHonal · 23/09/2014 17:13

Because you don't have to be faffed with all of that blardy sterilising.

Because it makes days out easy - you don't have to lug bottles and milk with you and find a way to warm it up, etc etc.

imsureineverdo · 23/09/2014 17:17

Because dh has to do everything else!

SisterMoonshine · 23/09/2014 17:18

Like Shergar, DH sometimes has to do tea because I'm busy feeding the baby Wink

Piffpaffpoff · 23/09/2014 17:19

Because I'm crap at sterilising and probably would have poisoned the baby.

Because I'm tight and it's free.

But definitely and most importantly it was a free pass to sit down and watch tv whenever I wanted!

Eyespy24 · 23/09/2014 17:29

Because I've never had to learn how to make up formula. Seems a bit complicated to me!

AuntieStella · 23/09/2014 17:44

Because I'm as lazy as you get, and it's far less faff!

I got hooked on Watercolour Challenge back in thse days.

feekerry · 23/09/2014 21:28

My honest genuine main reason for bf is I absolutely will NOT get out of bed at night. No way. Not for anyone. I am also v lazy and disorganised and couldn't possibly be trusted to remember all the stuff about bottle feeding. And I am tight Wink

weebairn · 23/09/2014 21:30

I read so many novels on maternity leave. So many.

IwishIwasmoreorganised · 23/09/2014 21:32

See my username!

I would never had got out of the house is I had to take anything more than a baby, a couple of nappies and some wipes!

BurnThisDiscoDown · 23/09/2014 21:37

Yes to baby in one hand and kindle/phone in the other. And "I'm feeding and can't get up, can you get me a cup of tea/sandwich/cake/anything else I can think off. And I liked the night feeds of put baby on boob rather than go downstairs, make bottle, feed baby, wash out bottle. I'm very very lazy. Blush

LemonBreeland · 23/09/2014 21:40

Oh yes, lying down and sometimes sleeping at night feeds is brilliant!

ShadowStar · 23/09/2014 21:45

Yy to "oh dear, I have to sit on the sofa and feed the baby, please take care of xyz......"

ipswichwitch · 23/09/2014 21:57

You can do it lying down!
Plus you don't have to get out of bed to do it - we have a sidecar cot so I just slide DS over, feed, then slide him back. All without even sitting up or getting cold with the covers off :)

Pointlessfan · 23/09/2014 22:01

Reading/watching TV, good way to lose the baby weight, doesn't cost anything and no sterilizing would be my reasons.
I always get tea in bed too because I'm too busy feeding!

VeloWoman · 24/09/2014 00:39

Awesome!

I have discovered another one, you can sit at the table and do craft with older dc while breastfeeding (the baby now has glitter on his head).

Getting on a plane for a 36 hour journey without having to worry about how baby will be fed.

Bonus: loads of extra help from stewardesses and watching them give DH dirty looks because they thought he wasn't helping he was, he was in charge of 4yo DD1, who morphed into an angel child for the duration

Downside: baby reverted to newborn again and fed every hour for the whole 36 hours!

IneedAwittierNickname · 24/09/2014 00:52

"There are three reasons for breast-feeding: the milk is always at the right temperature; it comes in attractive containers; and the cat can't get it."
Irena Chalmers

Plus for me it was the perfect excuse for my interfering in laws not to be able to take my babies out for hours on end.

Sapat · 24/09/2014 00:57

When I get overwhelmed in the evenings with the kids and dinner etc I say that the baby is unsettled and can't feed in this chaos, I close the bedroom door, plump the cushions, feet up, open MN on tablet and put the world to right. Or read a book. Bliss.
I love how sleepy it makes them, and how they snooze with the milky stuff dribbling away.
The only downside of BF is feeding in public (not always easy/possible) and having to think about clothes (no dresses, no fitted shirts, etc) and buy BF bras. That is it.
