ds is 12 days old, yes only 12 and im thinking of giving up already.
he latches beautifully etc etc, its not painful, but i appear to have no milk left for him, hence he is just screaming and i feel cruel and totally useless i cant feed my son.
this is the 3rd day that it has 'run out' and i dont know what to do?
i keep putting him on to try and stimulate supply but it just makes him angry.
as its the natural way to feed i thought it might be reasonably straightforward but its not.

Lie on your side with the breast you want to feed from down. Line up your baby as normal and snuggle up close til he can latch on.

foundintranslation · 23/09/2006 20:41

Feeding lying down, I've always done it by lying on my side and putting ds lying down next to me, with his tummy to mine, so that he can feed from the bottom breast. You can put a pillow or your arm under your head to be able to see what's going on.

IbIb I b/f dd2 exclusively for 6.5 months and my breasts did not full and hard or anything. Unlike with dd1 when I was constantly engorged and uncomfortable.

1Baby1Bump · 23/09/2006 20:42

does the boob just rest on the bed or do you hold it?

OP posts:
Gingerbear · 23/09/2006 20:43

short vid of positioning lying down
It is for 'quicktime software though - if it doesn't work go to breastfeeding.com and pick the video clip for the movie player you have.

foundintranslation · 23/09/2006 20:43

oh crikey, I don't know my boobs are tiny, even when bf, so I've never had to support them while feeding.

SoupDragon · 23/09/2006 20:44

I used to support mine to get them latched on, then they just rest on the bed really.

SoupDragon · 23/09/2006 20:45

Once the nipple's in, it doesn't seem to matter where the rest of the breast is (within reason obviously!!!)

I gave up at about this time of night and I was really really upset.

Good luck BabyBump.

SherlockLGJ · 23/09/2006 22:34

Hunker

I was going to text you, but I could not find my mobile, glad you found it.

3andnomore · 24/09/2006 01:23

You have already received brilliant advice and I can't add to that at all....just wanted to say, don't give up yet, it is worth it it really is and this phase will be so short in the big picture....they grow up so fast Just enjoy it and feed as often as you can....in your case probably from one boob at the time, to get more hindmilk into your lil (foremilk is lactose rich and can cause windy troubles!)

SherlockLGJ · 24/09/2006 12:08

How did you get on ??

1Baby1Bump · 24/09/2006 16:04

i had a bath with him before bed. he did a bit of suckling in the bath but not much. we mostly just sat and i swished the water around us. he enjoyed that. i went all mooshy as when wet against my chest he felt exactly as he did nearly 2 weeks ago when i popped him out in the pool!
he had a 'feed' once we got out then slept till my bedtime. he didnt want to go in pram to sleep last night anyway so had him in with me all night in just his nappy.
plenty of milk this morning for him. he popped off a few times as there was too much initially.
am ok so far today and have drunk almost 1.5 litres of evian as felt really thirsty today. i hope this is enough although i am going to drink more. i have never been a big drinker, mother says the doc used to tell her off for not making me drink more as a child.
when not preg/bf'ing i could easily go all day with only one glass of water.
i dont know if this makes sense or anyone knows what i mean but i can sort of feel when i have milk there waiting. in the morn, even tho they dont go lumpy anymore, i can feel they are full. i feel i have milk there now.
if it changes, i will be back, for support if nothing else as i know youve all already suggested everything you can. x

Brilliant 1B1B!
Sounds like you are on track.

Daisymoo · 24/09/2006 16:20

Sounds like you are doing really well. Just to add, as your body gets used to producing the right amount of milk for your baby, you may stop feeling so full in the mornings or between feeds. This is perfectly normal, but can be a bit worrying and make you feel as though there's no milk. You produce milk fastest whilst the baby is feeding, so don't panic if this happens and just keep offering the breast.

It sounds as though what has been happening in the evenings is cluster feeding where your baby is just trying to get a nice full tummy and stimulate your breasts to produce more milk at this time. It normally settles down after the first few weeks although it can happen again at growth spurt times. have a look at this

As long as you're well hydrated, don't force yourself to drink gallons as it's a myth that drinking more makes you produce more milk.
