... do you feel you have to go and move and feed there, or do you stay where you are if you want to?

I never know whether it's meant as a friendly offer or as something more.

Have I got a gold card? I've got some dodgy store card thing which turned out to be a credit card Is that the one?

bettythebuilder · 10/09/2006 13:55

There's an ordinary card (and yes, it is a dodgy credit card with a crazy interest rate!) and if you spend a certain amount on it over a year, they "upgrade" you to a gold card.
(I got mine 'cos I had my wedding list there 8 yrs ago, and have been using the free facilities in the Gold Card lounges ever since )

chestnutter · 10/09/2006 17:20

Nice to hear the more positive stories, especially the train one - quality! And also the Debenhams tip - think I'll try and pull that one off next time and hope for the best...

I have to say, M&S let me sit in their closed cafe to feed DS the other day as there was nowhere else to sit and the store was about to close.

curlew · 10/09/2006 17:51

Another brilliant place - or it was brilliant 3 years ago when I last used it (sob) are the baby rooms at Bluewater. They had lovely chairs, nice dim lighting - wonderful! DS and I spent many happy hours there in between dashes to Lakeland, Monsoon, Mango, Muji and Carluccios!

FrannyandZooey · 10/09/2006 17:55

Oh poo to it then. I think I will take it back, I didn't want a credit card and I only did it to get £4 (a measly £4!) off a dress

FillyjonktheBananaEater · 11/09/2006 08:45

well i don't know, yellorose.

she said, as she gave me it, "its lovely to see someone on your situation breastfeeding. Here's some food for you".

charity, i guess.

hmmm. that was 3 years ago this week, must have been.

i want a debenhams card btw but i dont think i'd pass the credit chck. they never have "ebay seller" in their occupation list, for some reason, and i will not put "housewife".

FrannyandZooey · 11/09/2006 12:09

Filly you would be amazed. Have you got a mortgage? I was not on ours originally in case I screwed it up with my abominable credit history, but have found recently that stores are more than happy for me to have up to £1000 of their kit on credit

scary

FrannyandZooey · 11/09/2006 12:10

Anyway all that happens if you apply and get turned down is that they say "sorry, you have not passed the credit check." They don't clap you into irons or anything.

lisayb · 11/09/2006 13:18

Thankyou Filly for making me laugh today. Will be on the look out on all future shopping trips for the Sally Army, when I get my baps out....

FillyjonktheBananaEater · 11/09/2006 15:29

"Anyway all that happens if you apply and get turned down is that they say "sorry, you have not passed the credit check." They don't clap you into irons or anything. "

You mean, they reject" you^?

Howabout "professional breastfeeder?" Does that sound better?

FillyjonktheBananaEater · 11/09/2006 15:30

reject you even.

If I keep saying it, it will sound better.

yellowrose · 11/09/2006 15:44

filly - lucky you for looking thin enough that people pay you to eat !!! but great that she complimented you on bf...I wish more people would compliment me. It has taken 2.2 years to finally get my MIL (she is a bit of a witch) to say how happy she is that her grandson (her only one) has been bf for this long

FillyjonktheBananaEater · 11/09/2006 15:48

ah no, whatever else i was 2 wks after giving birth thin was not it.

yellowrose · 11/09/2006 15:51

filly - that's ok then I hate women who look like stick insects the minute after they give birth

FillyjonktheBananaEater · 11/09/2006 15:52

me too

mummymic · 16/09/2006 22:00

please can i just say to all the mums who have written i on this thread what a fantastic giggle you have all given me after a shitty day with 2 wretched and vile children - thank god its a one off!!
i was asked (by a 'friend') in an extremely horrified tone 'oh my god...youre not going to do that here are you?' to which i replied 'where would you like me to do it?' 'the toilets' she said,in a very affronted voice i replied ' would you eat your dinner in there? no i didnt think so, so why should my new baby?' when i started to feed him she looked at me in surprise and said ' you cant see anything!' im not quite sure what she expected to see - i think she thought i would sit half naked - not a pretty site i can assure you!!

FillyjonktheBananaEater · 16/09/2006 22:04

aw, good on you, mummymic!

wrinklytum · 16/09/2006 22:19

Fed dd in the waiting room at the docs on Monday post her jabs.Got dirty looks from receptionists and saw them muttering to each other and glancing over.Couldnt give a toss as they are pretty snotty anyhow. At least dd was happy and well fed!!!Have recently had to bf in a disabled toilet in a pub and smelly feeding room in Boots grr but have found a couple of really nice vegetarian organic cafes and the local library who are very supportive of bf mothers so its not all bad.

mrsdarcy · 16/09/2006 22:37

I assume they are being kindly and say "how nice of you to offer but no thank you" - gives them nowhere to go if they weren't being nice. Sleep deprivation has numbed my radar for rudeness - quite a nice side-effect

FillyjonktheBananaEater · 16/09/2006 22:38

am very that everyone is not completely supportive and lovely re bf.

Dunno why I've had such a good experience, tbh.

emilee · 17/09/2006 18:49

My sister was asked to stop breastfeeding in the National Gallery by a member of staff who directed her to the nursing room. She told someone at the NCT conference about this and was subsequently in lots of national newspapers and on TV doing interviews about breastfeeding in public. In Scotland its illegal for someone to stop you breastfeeding - lets hope this will be rolled out to English law too. If nice nursing rooms are supplied, then great if you want to use them, but I say you should feed your baby when and where you want to.
Google my sister Catherine Gulati to see her in the papers!

julienetmum · 17/09/2006 22:08

I'd say the same as everyone else here.

However I did once say to a b/f mum, would you like to sit just inside here, I'll get you a chair.

The reason being that I knew in about 3 minutes 40 children were about to pile through the narrow corridor she was in and she was sort of blocking the way and the door they were going through.

That was OK wasn't it. I would have said the same if she was bottlefeeding or spoonfeeding or whatever.

Quootiepie · 17/09/2006 22:13

I had that happen on the isle of white ferry - I just said "Im fine, thank you" and that was it. I noticed a sign saying nursing facilites were located in the disabled toilet aswell... yuk!

Blondie79 · 17/09/2006 22:14

My first instinct would be to tell them to p@** off - and I don't even breastfeed!!!

SewingMadMummy · 17/09/2006 22:47

I would say if you can see what I am doing you are looking too closely (a breastfeeding veteran having fed my 2 dd's as and when and discreetly and I have HUGE norks111)
