See attached Ocado advert from Google search for 'SMA gold'

Is this an illegal promotion?

No one goes "I'm giving up FREE milk" as I can get a one off discount on my shop that may include formula.

Ffs even half price it's still £5 vs Free. Hmm

Seriously? Why are you worried?

AgaPanthers · 01/07/2014 12:07

It's got nothing to do with giving up free milk, it's about them breaking the law!

Gileswithachainsaw · 01/07/2014 12:10

Still seems a sad pathetic thing that harms no one to worry about it being bent or broken.

You have too much time on your hands. It's a first sodding shop discount. That's all

pumpkinsweetie · 01/07/2014 12:11

Wish I could get money off considering SMA has now sky rocketed up to £9.99.
I can't breastfeed, so would happily love to save some money on baby milk, but thanks to the Gov that will never happen!

People have to buy baby milk, a one off saving isn't going to persuade someone to give up breastfeeding, same thing as £9.99 doesn't make someone choose to breastfeed!

AgaPanthers · 01/07/2014 12:12

" It's a first sodding shop discount. That's all"

No it's not, it's an advert for infant formula, which is against the law.

OP posts:
Gileswithachainsaw · 01/07/2014 12:15

Never broken the law?

Smoked a joint? Taken a pill? Drunk on the street?

Been loud and drunk? Nicked a packet of chewing gum?

Bet there's something you have done. Don't understand going all "might mouse" on ocado. Get a life seriously

Gileswithachainsaw · 01/07/2014 12:16

Mighty mouse

You probably drunk underage too? Did u get all huggy about the pub that served u? Or is that ok cos you were young and it was fun,

Gileswithachainsaw · 01/07/2014 12:19

Huffy

FFA iPhone

AgaPanthers · 01/07/2014 12:20

Of course I've broken the law, but I'm not a £2 billion stock market listed company.

FFS.

OP posts:
TheNumberfaker · 01/07/2014 12:25

Yes it is against the law. It doesn't matter whether you agree with the law or not.

report it to Ocado or trading standards? Perhaps?

TheWildRumpyPumpus · 01/07/2014 12:32

Have you actually gone all the way through to submitting the order, so redeeming your voucher, paying the rest of the 80 odd pounds and checking out?

Because if not, we don't know whether their systems will actually reject your attempts to buy formula with the voucher at the last minute.

NickyEds · 01/07/2014 12:38

Who the hell worries about this? NO mother has ever said " I was going to bf but then I saw that I could get Boots points/£20 off Ocado so now I'm going to go with formula!"

PedlarsSpanner · 01/07/2014 12:43

Baby Milk Action will be interested

PedlarsSpanner · 01/07/2014 12:47

Nicky it's not so much about the BF mother it's more about not encouraging parents to chop and change the infant formula brand their baby is fed.

ExcuseTypos · 01/07/2014 12:47

I understand where you're coming from OP and don't understand why people are being rude to you.

Report to trading standards.

Miren · 01/07/2014 12:49

yy Baby Milk Action - find them on Facebook.

All the bollocks "money off won't convert a mother to FF" - it is illegal for a reason, they don't create laws for the hell of it Hmm

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 01/07/2014 12:51

I don't know why people are getting the humpnwith you OP weirdos

I'd contact Ocado in the first instance, as it might be an accidental promotion IYSWIM ie they hadn't considered that someone could use the first buy promotion for this.

Then trading standards BMA etc if you get unsatisfactory response.

LittleMisslikestobebythesea · 01/07/2014 12:56

I would imagine if you actually ordered and got it delivered, when it was processed it wouldn't take the voucher off.

I had a problem with a sainsburys voucher (not buying formula, just an example) and it took the voucher on the order but when it actually came they hadn't given me the discount. I rang and asked why and they said its for first time users only, I explained I had a different voucher that stated that, but this one doesn't, so they gave me the discount amount back.

So even if the order is processed it won't necessarily take the amount off when the payment is taken (the day the order arrives)

Though if it was me who had discovered it, as someone who tried to breast feed but couldn't due to medical reasons, I would keep quiet as thats a good saving.

Showy · 01/07/2014 12:58

It's nothing to do with oh look ffing is on offer, I'm going to quit bfing. It's about stopping unethical multi-billion pound formula companies incentivising shoppers into using their brand and then dicking about with prices and/or ingredients which affects ff babies negatively.

Boudica1990 · 01/07/2014 13:07

Do people actually think ff mothers are that stupid?

Many ff mothers stick to a formula that sits comfortably with baby. They don't chop and change, because they don't fancy the explosive poos the possible reflux and general refusal of the formula, and very formula feeding mothers are going to spend £80 in one go to buy 8 cartons of powder, they may start running out or have to move on to the next milk before they got through all 8 tins of the stuff, so they would be wasting their money!!

I can't believe people have the time to sit and Google formula brands so they can mount some crusade Hmm it's just another way of BF mothers to belittle and punish ff mothers when many would love to have bf but we're unable to.

AgaPanthers · 01/07/2014 13:11

I wasn't Googling to mount a crusade I was just Googling the name because I couldn't remember if I'd got it right or if it was called something slightly different.

OP posts:
PedlarsSpanner · 01/07/2014 13:12

It's not saying parents are stupid, more about pressure on family finances

Absolutely refute your assertion that BF mothers belittle and punish parents who formula feed.

PedlarsSpanner · 01/07/2014 13:14

And how do you know how my children were fed as infants? For all you know my DCs were fed unicorn milk brought by fair maidens

Gileswithachainsaw · 01/07/2014 13:15

We'll said boudica

Gileswithachainsaw · 01/07/2014 13:16

If someone's that skint they aren't going I he shopping at ocado are they.
