Breast feeders : what clothes are you wearing??

The weather is really improving over my way and I'm struggling because all of my nursing tops, except one, are ones designed for cold weather! As a result I'm either wearing the same summery nursing top everyday or absolutely sweltering when wearing another.

I have looked online but all nursing tops seem to be long sleeved and snug fitting and I just can't bear the the thought of wearing clothes like that in this heat.

Can anyone direct me to shops/website that do summery nursing tops??

Boob Design do some good ones:

Not cheap, but they're great quality and last forever.

BertieBotts · 22/06/2014 17:41

I just used to wear my normal clothes, a lot of things you can lift up or pull down or to the side.

AnotherStitchInTime · 22/06/2014 17:41

I just wear vests under vests, t-shirts or tunics/dresses. That way you can use regular tops not nursing ones.

BrianButterfield · 22/06/2014 17:44

I've never worn a nursing top and BF two children. Looseish (only ish as I hate baggy clothes) with a camisole underneath are best. There are loads of light, loose t-shirts that would do and are fashionable this year - this sort of thing, for example:

Ive just bought a couple of maxi dresses from h&m with front buttons for easy access.

CanISayOfHerFace · 22/06/2014 17:49

I have really struggled with nursing clothes. I've refused to buy any more as they are mostly hideous! At the moment I'm wearing tops with big arm holes such as this one so I can pull it to the side:

Favourite new top!

And strappy tops I can slip off the shoulder:

Topshop Cami

I wear an Emma Jane nursing bra underneath.

Isabella Oliver do nursing camis here. I've not tried them but I bought some of their maternity stuff which was good quality.

Bravado vests are brilliant

BrianButterfield · 22/06/2014 17:52

I have a few strapless/bandeau tops I sometimes wear instead of a vest underneath which makes the one up/one down thing really easy! They're very cheap from Peacocks/New Look as well.

callamia · 22/06/2014 17:53

Button down tea dress, maxi dress and a dress with a wrap top section. Vests for bumming about at home.

MasterFlea · 22/06/2014 18:06

Another vote for Boob design. Wash well and very comfy.

SerenaJoy · 22/06/2014 18:10

I get too hot wearing layers, and like you OP most of my nursing clothes are long sleeved, or just not appropriate for hot weather, so here's my solution - I bought some cheap white vests and chopped them off under the bust. Et voila! Any normal top with low/loose/button neckline can be converted into a nursing top. The outer top comes down (or unbuttons) and the vest pulls up.

It's not glamorous but it works for me Smile

I pinched this idea: www.breastvest.co.uk/ but instead of buying the official I bought a couple really cheap Primark vest tops with adjustable strap length. I lengthened the straps then wore it resting under my boobs and then I just wore all my usual tops. So you can pull up your top without exposing your belly and access your nursing bra. Very discrete and means you don't have to buy any special clothes.

PetaPipa · 22/06/2014 18:27

I also layer stretchy vests, so the one underneath can be pulled below your breathing and will cover your stomach, while the top layer covers the top half of your breast. Although tbh, I'm not that bothered about flashing a bit of boob so sometimes just wear one top and pull it down!

Writerwannabe83 · 22/06/2014 18:34

Loads of brilliant ideas!
Thanks everyone! Smile

I posted this idea on the style and beauty thread recently www.mumsnet.com/Talk/style_and_beauty/2108150-Cheap-nursing-dress

I'm also wearing a shirt dress with a small bandeau top underneath

On the lookout for some more nice dresses if anyone has links!

mrsmugoo · 24/06/2014 16:58

I'm wearing thin strapped vest with loose fitting cropped top over the top. One up, one down!

suedehead · 24/06/2014 17:07

If you've kept hold of any bump bands from your pregnancy, I find these are great at covering your midriff (especially if it looks anything like mine these days) then you can just wear a normal top and lift it up to feed. Without a bump, I find that they go from waistband to bra, but are (slightly) cooler than layering up with vests

Mim78 · 24/06/2014 21:42

I just wear a loose(ish) top. People see my tummy. Oh calamity.

feeona123 · 24/06/2014 22:32

H&M do some good tops. Got 2 t shirts for £20 and 2 vest tops for £20 also.

Bought a top from jojo mamman bebe and it's gone really shabby and bobbly - that was about £25 for 1 top. The H&M tops seem a lot better quality but only had them a week or so.

HollowayGal · 26/06/2014 08:40

I've got a couple of dresses from mamas and papas that are surprisingly stylish, and also recently discovered Vertbaudet which has some nursing tshirts and vests and a sale on at the moment.

icanmakeyouicecream · 26/06/2014 10:52

Fed two children over a year each. Never bought any specific breastfeeding tops. Just wore a vest under everything. Job done.

DeathMetalMum · 26/06/2014 11:05

I'm the same as mim. Just wear loose ish tops or tops I can pull down. Baby covers my tummy and tbh I don't care. Dd is 16 months almost so I was feeding her during the heatwave last year. There was no way I could have worn a vest and a top. One layer was more than enough!

Tesco currently have some semi loose cotton paterned vests that also have buttons so can be pulled up or buttons undone.

DrowningOnSchoolRun · 26/06/2014 12:32

I wear nursing vests from Mothercare with a short sleeved cardi or kimono.

woolers1982 · 28/06/2014 08:04

You need to check out Feed GB! Their t-shirts are so flattering, you don't need to layer up with a vest, and you wouldn't know it was a breastfeeding top.

In the heat, I've been wearing my scrappy sundresses, but not putting my arms through the armholes, then wearing a t-shirt over the top. A bit like a skirt, but one that sits higher up. Or you could just wear a skirt. none of my skirts fit
