Calling all nighttime feeders!! Let's all keep us company during those early hours of the morning when we're feeding instead of sleeping!

This is a thread for everyone to chat to each other about their experiences of night time feeding, the good, the bad and the ugly!

There are already a few of us who have been chatting about this in another forum for a few months now but we want to migrate over here to meet more sleep deprived parents!!

Log on and post, no whatever silly hour it is, and vent away about how knackered and stressed you are!! There's a good chance someone else is up and feeding crying with exhaustion too!!

Introductions: I have a 7 week old son, first baby and exclusively breastfeed. He's normally a nightmare to settle to sleep, screaming for hours on end, but will go for 5 hour stretches of sleep!

He does sleep in a Gro Bag but I'm not sure it contains the movement enough, if you know what I mean. I had to laugh the other day though, when I glanced at the crib and saw the bottom of the Gro Bag rise up in the air as DS's brought his little legs up! I bought one of those Velcro swaddle things and that keeps him nicely bundled up but naturally he hated it and screamed the house down :(

He is now feeding and I'm hoping he will at least sleep til midnight. 8 hours sleep? What's that??

Cariad007 · 24/05/2014 21:37

Writer my DS is very windy too but hasn't pooed since Monday and he'd feel so much better if he'd just bloody well go!

Writerwannabe83 · 24/05/2014 21:40

I have also resorted to feeding to try and stop DS from crying and also to try and induce sleep. I think having 'instant soothers' is a huge benefit of breast feeding over bottle feeding!! No matter how distressed DS is, the minute he sees a nipple in front of his face the crying will stop Smile

Has anyone seen Frank around the boards? I hope she's ok after her breast abscess and hasn't had to be admitted to hospital or anything Thanks

Yes my little one flails around but since he started sleeping in a grobag in my bed rather than swaddled in the Moses basket it's been better as when he startles and flails his arms it doesn't wake him up. He sleeps totally sprawled out now!

Misty9 · 24/05/2014 21:57

Good luck all tonight. writer Frank is fine from what she said on another thread.

Having a bit of a down day. Started a thread on it but dd is being very fussy at the breast recently and I've had it up to here with breastfeeding :( she hasn't had a proper decent feed today and my nips are sore from all the pulling on and off. Hoping the tongue tie snip will help things but losing hope fast.

Our nights aren't too bad, it's the relentlessly draining days which are killing me. I've no patience with ds either and generally feeling like a crap mummy. Anyway, she's asleep in her cot, miracle of miracles, so I better get some kip. My dad will be arriving any minute but my husband is sorting him out. Can't believe he thought it was okay to turn up this late for a visit Angry

Hope all have settled nights.

Singsongmama · 24/05/2014 22:01

Attempt one - fail. Screaming and crying. Back in the nursing chair.....

Singsongmama · 24/05/2014 22:11

Oh misty...you're having a tough time of it. Here's a hand to hold! Quite right - who visits this late??? TT will be playing bit part in how your days are going - you aren't a crappy mummy!!

Cariad - we call that leg move "the lobster" - it's like a single tail flapping around. Often we get a few lobsters before he starts to cry!

FrankelandFilly · 24/05/2014 22:12

Sorry, I'm here! Thanks for thinking of me writer Smile Had my boob drained again yesterday but it was mostly clear fluid rather than pus (sorry, that's a bit gross!). I'm still on antibiotics and have to go back to hospital again next Thursday to have it ultrasounded but they're happy with how it's going.

DD is a flailer. She got better when we put her in GroBags rather than swaddling and then improved again when we moved her out of the Moses basket into her crib. I think she kept hitting her arms on the sides of the basket which just woke her up.

Cariad007 · 24/05/2014 22:13

Right, putting him down now. Wish me luck...

notadoctor · 24/05/2014 22:14

Evening all! Crossing fingers for settled nights for everyone!

My DH is out on a birthday night out tonight (his) so I am really hoping my little monkeys give me an easy ride!

Possibly a silly question as I know some people are struggling to get thier little ones to nap but I'm starting to get concerned the other way with DS... I'm worried he's sleeping too much in the day! Does anyone know how much day time sleep an 8wk old needs? He spends a lot of time in a sling while I'm out and about occupying DD and will happily snooze most the day. Should I be trying to keep him up more? Getting paranoid about him being under stimulated, poor neglected second child!

Misty - Sorry to hear you've had a tough day. I know what you mean about feeling less patient with your toddler, I've been snapping at DD none stop today! Tomorrow I am going to work on taking deep breathes before I snap...

Singsongmama · 24/05/2014 22:14

Glad to hear you are on the mend Frank. Did you rage at your HV?

Anyone fancy a little light relief? Google Go the Fuck to Sleep read by Samuel L Jackson. It's my mantra..

Singsongmama · 24/05/2014 22:17

Hi notdoc, does LO sleep through night too? If so, I'd say it's fine as long as he gets some good quality kick about and grabby time too. Slings are great for naps!

FrankelandFilly · 24/05/2014 22:18

I haven't seen her yet singsong, she wasn't at the drop in clinic when I went to get DD weighed on Wednesday, but I did tell the HV that weighed DD about it and she took some notes. I just wish they'd be more up front about the possibility of this sort if thing, then we'd know what to look out for!

Misty, sorry you're struggling with BFing, stick with it if it's what you want but don't make yourself miserable with it. Far more important that you are happy.

Writerwannabe83 · 24/05/2014 22:21

I'm glad things are going ok frank - here's hoping your ultrasound scan will show everything has cleared up nicely.

misty - please don't feel like you're a crap mummy. The fact you are battling on just shows what a fantastic mommy you are Thanks

notadoctor - my DS would have some days where he'd be wide awake for over 8 hours at a time and then on others days he would sleep right through it and sleep all night too. He's the same now really - things change from day to day. I think if I was in a sling all day and being rocked I'd probably sleep a lot too.....sounds very cosy!!

singsong - I had lots of failed attempts tonight but after attempt number 3 he finally seems to be asleep in his basket. Fingers crossed he stays that way!!

Good luck cariad - I honestly think that transferring babies into their MB or crib is one of the most nerve wracking parts of new parenthood Smile

Just hoping dd is settling here and she has a good night as dh back on shift tomorrow so night duty all mine tonight. Got a bit of 1D on TV guilty pleasure whilst she drops off after her feed.. First night of anti-ds as well...

Singsongmama · 24/05/2014 22:29

Fingers crossed Rachie!

OwlinaTree · 24/05/2014 22:33

Thanks puggy we had a nice day, boy was very good and let everybody cuddle him!

He's slept more than usual today as we've spent about 5 hours in the car in total, he's slept for most of it. I'm really hoping he'll still sleep well tonight! He's just now feed to sleep... Please stay that way!

Glad you are feeling better frank. Misty sorry you are feeling low, hopefully tomorrow's going to be better for you. Waves to everyone, fingers crossed for a while lot of 6 hour sleeps!!

Whoops!

PollyP0429 · 24/05/2014 22:43

Sending good luck vibes out to everyone. If not probably see you all about 4am, DD weht down without too much fuss (for once!) At half 7. She wsd totally knackered, sure she didn't manage more than 2 hours total kip today but means nothing

Placing bets for give up and get up time! Got good odds on 3:30am

polly - the last thing me and DH always say to each other before we got to sleep is, "What time are you going for?" (as in, what time do we think he'll be up).

We love seeing who got the closest when he does actually wake Grin
