This is a thread for everyone to chat to each other about their experiences of night time feeding, the good, the bad and the ugly!

There are already a few of us who have been chatting about this in another forum for a few months now but we want to migrate over here to meet more sleep deprived parents!!

Log on and post, no whatever silly hour it is, and vent away about how knackered and stressed you are!! There's a good chance someone else is up and feeding crying with exhaustion too!!

Introductions: I have a 7 week old son, first baby and exclusively breastfeed. He's normally a nightmare to settle to sleep, screaming for hours on end, but will go for 5 hour stretches of sleep!

Second day in a row that DS has taken a nap at 7pm. Why?!? And now, wide eyed and bushy tailed.

Might be another late night trying to catch the next sleepy wave...

Writerwannabe83 · 19/05/2014 20:51

My DS is absolutely exhausted, he's pretty much been awake for 8 hours now. Unfortunately we are now in the 'over tired baby' category and he's just really irritable and grizzly with random bouts of crying. He just looks so tired. My guess is he will still be awake for ages yet.

Singsongmama · 19/05/2014 20:58

Oh no, you knew it was coming, how dreadful. Poor thing (him...and you!) There's just no helping them when they get overtired....car seat and drive over cobbles?

Hope when he gives in it will be out for the count!

mrsmugoo · 19/05/2014 21:11

Writer - sympathies from me...this is pretty much a daily occurrence here.

Have you tried a bath? DS has gone down by 8:30 every night since we started a bedtime routine that starts with a bath. It seems to "reset" him.

DS has had 3 x 20 minute naps today. Ugh.

Writerwannabe83 · 19/05/2014 21:28

Well he seems to have worn himself out and is finally asleep - how long for, I don't know. He'll want another feed in a few hours I'm sure but for now me and DH are just enjoying some quiet time!!

mrsmugoo - He had his bath tonight and whereas he normally enjoys it tonight he just screamed for the duration. I don't know how these little babies cope on so little sleep???

singsong - We have tried going for drives in the past when we are really, really desperate usually when it's midnight and he has been screaming for 4 hours and although it sends him to sleep he then wakes up as soon as we try and take him out his car seat.

He has fed loads again today, already fed 3 times more than he normally does, I have a feeling these hot days and humid nights are going to take their toll on all of us when it comes to our babes wanting frequent watery drinks!!

We're all exhausted here from weekend fun at Centre Parcs.

DD and DS were almost unconscious when I got them out the bath. It's all caught up with them.

I'm knackered too and DH has gone to Germany for a couple of days so I am going to go to bed now ready for the DC tag team in the early hours.

Sleep well everyone.

notadoctor · 19/05/2014 22:11

My DS has been feeding for EVER!! He hasn't cluster fed like this since he was teeny. I think it must be the weather.

Writer - I think you're right, we might be in for a long night with thirsty babies!

Writerwannabe83 · 20/05/2014 00:51

First feed of the night here - 3.5 hours after he fell asleep.
I'm hoping it will be a nice quick feed and straight back to sleep!

Hope everyone is having a good night!!

Hi all

Was CP fun pasta and did MIL look after you?

First night feed here, I'm ready to go (in the "milk literally dripping" sense), DD however keeps falling asleep having had very little.

We went to a bf clinic today on mw's advice. Given hints on positioning to prevent the soreness, so I'm a bit clumsy now! Also confirmed tongue-tie. They sorted it out this afternoon. She was very good, hopefully I found it the most stressful!

Unfortunately it's still painful but I'm hoping that's due to the scabs.

littlealien01 · 20/05/2014 03:14

Ugh dds terrible sleeping gets worse, down at 9 and so far up at 10. 11. 12.30, 2.30 and 3. I needneed sleep! :(

Singsongmama · 20/05/2014 03:24

Welcome back pasta! How was swimming? Holidays are exhausting aren't they?!

O dear Pepper, you've had a big day! I hope things get easier now and less painful. Did LO have a procedure done?

First feed here so can't complain - having a little moment here appreciating DS and how lucky I am - he's so beautiful, what a blessing! Sometimes lose sight of it when I'm so tired but wow, a tiny litle person!!

Hope heat isn't too bad where you guys are.

Singsongmama · 20/05/2014 03:26

Hello alien, is there anyone who can help? You must be shattered! Is she hungry or just unsettled?

TwentiethCenturyGirl · 20/05/2014 04:42

It's good that they snipped it there and then pepper. Hopefully things will improve once the initial soreness has gone.

We've had a couple of good nights here. She's gone down easily in the evening and then again after her dream feed, waking at 4:30ish. I'm hoping that she drifts off while feeding so that we both get a couple more hours. Obviously that will also depend on what time DD1 chooses to grace us with her presence!

So warm in the bedroom here tonight. Luckily DD seems cool in a long sleeved best and 1 tog sleeping bag.

littlealien01 · 20/05/2014 04:44

Unsettled, but shes used to feeding back to sleep. She will sleep in bed next to me but in a scaredy cat. Dh is sleeping through her crying as usual

littlealien01 · 20/05/2014 04:47

She used to sleep in 4 hour blocks, and now its normally 2.5 hrs, tonight is just unusually awful

mrsmugoo · 20/05/2014 04:59

Hi everyone. Good night here - down at 8:30 and not up til 1:30 - 5 hour stretch! Fed again at 3:30 but was awake grunting and straining at 4:30 so just like yesterday I got him up, changed him, gave him a little tummy massage and bicycled his legs and fed him gripe water.

He settled straight off to sleep in my arms. I just need to lay him back down in the bed and then manoeuvre myself in next to him...no mean feat with DH snoring the other side!

PepperMallow · 20/05/2014 05:29

Excellent Mungo, nice result!

twentieth perhaps it's because it's so hot and uncomfortable?

Yes, thanks, great that they could do the 'divide' yesterday as well.

Up now after DD's small top up at 1ish. Perhaps she was just thirsty earlier. She seems to be tucking in now and having a bit more on Lefty which is very welcomed because it is beginning to resemble a pancake compared to Mount Everest aka Righty!

Rachie1986 · 20/05/2014 05:41

Hello all.
Thanks for your support yesterday. Struggling a bit to sleep some nights, not helped by being at my parents, never sleep well the first night somewhere. Dd also decided after the 4.45am feed that a bottle wasn't enough, woke up crying as soon as I put her down.. So a massive feed from me too. Then an hour later she woke up for the day at 7.30, unheard of as she never sleeps til 10pm so wakes up late, had a tiny feed, and was sick on my mums bed! Not her finest morning really.

Tonight's been better, first feed now and slept ok so far. Still feeling down but I know it takes time for the pills to work.

Alien - that sounds so tough! How old is you lo??

Writerwannabe83 · 20/05/2014 05:53

Oh pepper - your night sounds horrendous!

Mine has been a crappy based on how DS normally is as he's been up at 00.45, 01.30 and 03.30am.

Feeds have a nightmare too, squirming, wriggling, straining, refusing to feed for more than 5 mines, refusal to attach and repeatedly nipple feeding- I don't know what's got into him Sad

OP posts:
Writerwannabe83 · 20/05/2014 05:55

Sorry, I meant alien your night sounds horrendous.

OP posts:
Rachie1986 · 20/05/2014 05:57

Oh no writer - sorry to hear its been a bad night. Perhaps the warm weather not helping? Doesn't explain the squirming though..

Hoping he settles so you can have a few more hours xx

Writerwannabe83 · 20/05/2014 06:08

Thanks rachie - I can't believe he's been up three times in 7 hours. I just tried to feed him again now but had the same issues we had overnight. I think he is training and squirming due to trying to produce a dirty nappy.

Last night was the first night in about 3 weeks where DH decided not to sleep in the spare room....boy is he regretting that now! He went down to it though when DS woke at 05.30am to at least get an hours sleep before getting up for work.

Have just seen your previous post Rachie - I'm glad you had a better night last night and I hope there have been no more vomits on the bed!! Are you mix feeding her now? Do you parents know that you have been prescribe AD's?

OP posts:
PastaandCheese · 20/05/2014 06:40

Yes. Fab holiday. DS loved his first swim.... He also loved the snooze and milk on the side of the pool afterwards. He looked very funny in his swimming shorts.

It was great to have so many people on hand to undertake the role of court jester to a 2 year old.

It's been an excellent night from DS as he went through 'til 6. DD woke at 1am demanding her Daddy and the her Nana. She wasn't overly happy that it was me or no one but I think she was hot as she went back to sleep after I stripped her down to her nappy.

pepper have you noticed the difference since having the TT snipped? Hope so!

BTW, I am breastfeeding in the Boden jersey dress so give it a go.

mrsmugoo · 20/05/2014 06:47

Up again here, tummy woke him up again. I've fed him and trying to settle him again but he's really fitful. I think he's got some trapped gut wind :(

Writerwannabe83 · 20/05/2014 07:19

And he's up again, one hour since he last fell asleep. Sad
