How long did you breastfeed til?

Including mixed feeding, if you did it.

Just curious really.

Can mention all those you have BF'd.

I am at 8 months so far and as long as she doesn't start biting, I'm hoping I can get another 3 or 4 months in.

Sorry, being nosy.

9 months and 12 months for our 2.

I'm impressed by the extended bf'ers on here.

I stopped when I felt it was right to, but more right for me than for them which makes me feel rather selfish now. Fortunately it was straightforward for both of them, but I do wish that I hadn't given ds1 any formula now. Ds2 seems healthier than ds1 and that is the only thing that I could have done differently.

HenD19 · 20/11/2013 22:21

Did you all feel pressure to stop as your babies got older? I'm feeding DC3 at 7 months and family and friends (including DH) are starting to hint that maybe DD should be moving onto bottles now. I'm happy to continue feeding though.

ShowOfBloodyStumps · 20/11/2013 22:21

DD was 3.4

DS is 2.2 and still feeding.

I know a few non English adults who were bf until 6/7 (cultural norm for them). They don't remember it at all and say they merely remember bedtimes in a very vague, cosy, comforting, safe way.

rabbitlady · 20/11/2013 22:22

four years three months

DontWorryBaby · 20/11/2013 22:23

11mths for DS1. Around 14mths for DS2. There was an 18mth age gap between the boys so between being pregnant/breastfeeding for 3.5 years consistently it was a delight to reclaim my body, so to speak!

duchesse · 20/11/2013 22:23

Iwish, I think every child is different in their level of health and disease resistance. I honestly don't think it has much to do with whether they are breastfed or not. DD3 was breastfed for the longest of all my children and has been the sickliest of the lot. DS was also quite sickly as a small child, but strong as an ox since about age 6. DD1 has hardly ever been ill. DD2 had everything going until about age 2 (older brother and sister were in school/nursery at the time and bringing everything home), then virtually nothing since then DD3 hasn't stopped be ill since she started (day) nursery aged 21 months. She was only going 2 days a week at most but brought home a different bug every week. She's over 4 now and still has a cold/cough a week.

ShowOfBloodyStumps · 20/11/2013 22:24

DD was 3.4 when she gave up breastfeeding so quite young for a natural term bfer. But she forgot it very, very quickly. She had and has an astounding memory and I was pregnant with her brother a few short months after finishing bfing her. She asked about how the baby would be fed and had no recollection at all of bfing despite remembering minute details from the rest of her daily life at the same age.

Xmasbaby11 · 20/11/2013 22:24

bf until DD got her first tooth at 6 months and wanted to sharpen it on my nipple. I was planning to give up then anyway!

StarlightMcKenzie · 20/11/2013 22:25

No I understand that duchess as dd didn't eat a single solid thing until she was 8 months but she had the odd drink of water or milk in her cup.

It just seems a bit strange to me to call it mixed feeding in the same way that I woukdn't really say I was mix feeding Ds at 17 months when he eats shepherds pie.

BlessThisMess · 20/11/2013 22:26

DD1 6 years and even then she had to be bribed to stop.
DD2 - can't remember but about 4.5 years I think.

Glad to see I'm not the only one. They can't really remember now (ages 12 and 9) but they did used to say it was yummy like ice-cream only warmer!

StarlightMcKenzie · 20/11/2013 22:27

Hen, I did feel pressure to stop with my first but once you kind of pass a year people seem to assume the answer is never and give up asking.

NachoAddict · 20/11/2013 22:28

Ds is 16 months and still going much to everyone's disapproval it seems at times.

StarlightMcKenzie · 20/11/2013 22:28

Hen, 7 month olds don't need bottles. Cups are cheaper and help them develop oral muscles better.

PavlovtheCat · 20/11/2013 22:29

10 months and 16 months. DD self weaned at 10 months. DS was weaned by me at 16 months.

CharCharGabor · 20/11/2013 22:31

DD1 and DD2 both coincidentally stopped at 33 months. DD1 self-weaned, DD2 had croup and lost the ability to suck, swallow and breathe at the same time. I was ok with stopping the first time but pretty upset with dd2 because she obviously wasn't ready. DD3 is 1 next week and still feeding.

Brandnewmamma · 20/11/2013 22:32

Six weeks

I was very happy with that before I expressed but think it is amazing how long some of you have done it!!

VisualiseAHorse · 20/11/2013 22:33

8 months. He just seemed to lose interest...well, he was never that intersted anyway!

Wish I had tried harder to keep going.

rascal1979 · 20/11/2013 22:36

5.75yrs properly and still the occasional 'feed' just a month away from being 6yrs :D

Not bad after a 9 week struggle to establish after being born prem at a teeny 2lb 1oz

IwishIwasmoreorganised · 20/11/2013 22:36

Thank you Duchesse. I know that what you're saying is correct.

Ds1 isn't a poorly child by any means, just the one that gets all of the verrucas, the molloscum, the viral rashes....

Ds2 had bronchiolitis as a baby but now seems immune to viruses and bacteria!

Neither of them worry me health wise, but if I could have changed anything that I did for them as babies, bf ds1 in particular for longer would have been it.

VisualiseAHorse · 20/11/2013 22:37

starlightmackenzie I think by mix-feeding, it means formula AND breast milk, not including food. So at ten months, yes they may be having food, but the only milk they have is mums.

MtbMagic · 20/11/2013 22:41

Have bf for 8 years solid. 4 dcs...

Dd 1 and ds2 stopped about 3.5 years. Ds3 (4 years) still going strong. As with the other 2, ds3 lost interest during pregnancy, but didn't stop, along comes baby and the urge to bf again goes into overdrive. Didn't intend for this to happen but it keeps us all happy. Anything to stop the crying!! I was so green with dd1 I didn't realise a baby could survive on bf alone!! I was 36!!! Crikey...

With the added bonus I can eat what I like and never put on weight. Dp is older than I and thinks I'm mean if I refuse... He has v fond memories of his mother and others working in the fields with the younger children, all being bf when required.

VisualiseAHorse · 20/11/2013 22:44

In fact, one of my siblings was BF until the age of three (longest out of all ten of us). She had speech problems, a serious overbite, has to wear wedges in her shoes, is virtually blind in one eye, and has more colds than the rest of us put together. But she is a bloody genius both academically and musically.

TheRaniOfYawn · 20/11/2013 22:49

DD has just turned 7 and is more or less weaned but I'm not sure if she's stopped for good. DS is 4 and still feeds once or twice a day.

leedy · 20/11/2013 22:49

DS1 til 2.5 (lost interest when I was pregnant and was down to only one or two feeds a day anyway). DS2 is 12 months and still going strong.

fidgetywidget · 20/11/2013 22:56

Until 9m when dd started biting! She had been cutting down gradually since starting solids and having a little formula in a beaker, but would never ever take bm or formula in a bottle probably my fault for not trying harder with expressing/bottles when she was small
