How long did you breastfeed til?

Including mixed feeding, if you did it.

Just curious really.

Can mention all those you have BF'd.

I am at 8 months so far and as long as she doesn't start biting, I'm hoping I can get another 3 or 4 months in.

Sorry, being nosy.

DS1 til age 7yo, he would still be doing it now if I hadn't said enough's enough.

DS2 until 3.8yo, my choice, not his Sad, but I couldn't stand it any more.

Eight years continuous feeding as I tandemmed for 2.5yrs, or 10.8years counted separately.

I am really glad to be stopped now tbh!

CelticPromise · 20/11/2013 21:15

18 months. If I'd known then what I know now about bfing (am a peer supporter) I would have carried on I think.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 20/11/2013 21:16

DS - 9 months, but mostly formula from 4 weeks, token Bf in the evenings.

DD - 2 years 9 months, never particularly intended for this to happen, we just drifted along and then one day I noticed that she wasn't regularly asking for it any more (it had only been morning and evening Bf since about 10 months except when ill then it was 24/7 again, boy that was tiring). I adopted the "don't offer, don't refuse" tactic and both were dropped within a month or so.

Theunstopablewindmill how did you mix feed at 10 months Confused

Surely everyone mix feeds then?

JugglingFromHereToThere · 20/11/2013 21:20

Great to see I'm in good company Zappo and mawbroon
I BF every day for 8.5 yrs, including the 2.5yrs of tandem feeding (though by that age it was more an evening feed with dd)
They still seemed very young to me - my babies - especially when tired at the end of a long day

ChutesTooNarrow · 20/11/2013 21:20

DS was 2.11 years, I was pregnant and couldn't hack it anymore. It got so painful and I had no milk left. I do regret weaning him before he was ready. DD is 10 months and ideally she'll self wean.

busylizzie76 · 20/11/2013 21:25

I didn't b/f- unpopular choice by me and totally respect and admire those who do.....my kids are the strongest and healthiest country kids so I don't think I've done badly Grin

Well done all of you Smile

JugglingFromHereToThere · 20/11/2013 21:29

Oh, actually I've re-calculated and was only 2 yrs of tandeming - long enough ?!
I nearly stopped when pregnant Chutes as it did become more uncomfortable/painful at times.
As with everything about BFing I think there's a lot of personal variation.

Still am with DD2, who is 2, fed DD1 till she was 2.2. DD2 shows no signs of stopping, she loves it, and I do too when its snuggly, not when she pulls at my nipples or bites me.

Ikeameatballs · 20/11/2013 21:32

Dd 6m
Ds still going at 3.11 though he has promised he will give up on his 4th birthday!

Zappo · 20/11/2013 21:33

"They still seemed very young to me - my babies - especially when tired at the end of a long day"

I agree. When you've done it every day for years it feels completely natural (despite what society might think).

Confitdecanard · 20/11/2013 21:34

2.11 years and counting. Pregnant with DC2 so might be heading towards tandem feeding territory soon.

Zappo · 20/11/2013 21:38

"Ds still going at 3.11 though he has promised he will give up on his 4th birthday!"

That's what my DD said

Then it was when she started school

Now it's when her milk teeth fall out ( We are down to 2 a day so we are weaning but very very slowly)

ChocolateHelps · 20/11/2013 21:44

DD1 pretty much stopped by 5 1/2 yrs but needed quite lot of nudging from me
DD2 stopped pretty quickly at 4 1/4 yrs, child led, from her 4th birthday she just tailed off with morning feed last to go
Tandem fed for 2 and bit years
Feel v satisfied that that part of my life is done and moving on to other ways of day to day life

JugglingFromHereToThere · 20/11/2013 21:52

Thanks Zappo, it's nice to be affirmed in your choices and find others doing the same isn't it?
Though it seems quite a while ago now as mine are now teens - and they did stop one day!!

leonardofquirm · 20/11/2013 21:57

DC 1, 2 years, accidentally encouraged weaning and they lost interest when's was pg with DC2. Wished it had carried on for tantrum taming and injury soothing!

19 months so far with DC2.

leonardofquirm · 20/11/2013 21:59

DC 2 is a bit pinchy, but I do love the cuddles.

BeCool · 20/11/2013 22:01

14months & 18 months.
loved it

catellington · 20/11/2013 22:05

This is really interesting. juggling and any others whose dc are now teens or grown up, do they remember and talk about bf now?

celticpromise I was wondering what you now know which would have made you carry on?

I am only at 9 mo with my first (dd), really love bf but haven't thought about plans for the future except I would definitely be upset if for some reason we didn't make it to a year.

duchesse · 20/11/2013 22:09

DS- 14 months (was pregnant again and it was sore)
DD1- 18 months
DD2- 24 months
DD3- 30 months

The older three are 20, 18, 16 now and never mention it. DD3 is 4 and reminds me sometimes that "when she was a baby she used to have mummy milk".

duchesse · 20/11/2013 22:12

Starlight, DD2 and DD3 were just on solids by 10 months. They basically lived on my milk only for those 10 months. Just weren't interested in food before. DS started food at 5.5 months (his choice) and DD1 at 7 months (my choice but forced by HV).

Zappo · 20/11/2013 22:14

"This is really interesting. juggling and any others whose dc are now teens or grown up, do they remember and talk about bf now?"

Would like to know this too as my DH reckons my DD will find it difficult to handle as a teenager when she realises how long she was breastfeeding.

JugglingFromHereToThere · 20/11/2013 22:15

Ho cat - thanks for your interest -
Even though DS was BFing until his sixth birthday I'm not sure how much he actually remembers it. We only mention it in passing - there's a lot of other day to day stuff to talk about really. He's 12 now - I have to say he still is super cuddly which is lovely, often giving his dear old Ma a friendly hug. Very cuddly with DH too - they cosy up on sofa together. He's also a black belt in karate and scored his first try's in rugby last week - a completely normal, cool, and loveable kid (if I do say so myself)
DD was slightly younger so probably remembers even less - at one time she remembered the sticker chart and little fairy she got as her weaning present Smile
