I'm trying to relactate for my9 month old following a 2 week break.
She won't latch I've tried everything, although we have made progress in the last 2 days, she will latch on for 2seconds then pull away.
I've been taking fenugreek , brought a second hand medela breast pump and brought nipple shields.
I think she would benefit from trying the system as It would help me produce more milk and will give her the reward of milk.
Does anyone have one for sale? I can't afford 40 for a new one as it may not work, but if I don't try to do everything I possibly can I will regret it.
We fed successfully for 7 months with only a 2week break, I think this is the last resort but I've already spent a lot of money in the process and cannot afford a new one.
Someone please help me!! I've tried gumtree, ace book.. I can't find one anywhere :(
Thanks so much for taking the time to read this :)

Have you tried a babymoon? Just spend the day in bed, just the two of you no top on you and just a nappy for DD, lots of skin to skin, lots of cuddles and offer the breast often.

You could also pump and give her the milk in a cup, even if you don't manage to get her to latch on again, you can still make sure she gets the benefit of the milk?

Good luck!

RiotsNotDiets · 04/06/2013 20:50

Oh and could you try getting her latched on in her sleep?

beautybox2 · 04/06/2013 21:06

I can't I have a 2and a half year old and no family live near me :(

I'm not getting a letdown with a pump I haven't had one since I last fed her on the 4th of may. If I letdown I would get loads.
I've pumped 4 x today each breast and got less than a ounce to show for it
I always had a oversupply, in the first 3 months I had to put a jug under my other breast while feeding her and would get 4 oz just from the letdown!

Just tried to latch her on, got my breastfeeding pillow and blanket ready with chair pulled up by cot, got her comfy and kept taking her dummy out offering the breast she will suck for a second then cry because she wants her dummy to go back to sleep.
I have no problems with my first DS breastfed him for 9 months, he loved it, he used to comfort nurse so I could watch tv all night with him latched on peacefully sleeping, but with my DD I've never been able to do that with my DS running around :)

That shows that you are still producing milk though, the more you pump the more your supply should go up.

I would try offering the breast as often as possible then and trying lots of different times and positions. Maybe having a bath together would help?

Hi beautybox, you had another thread, didn't you? Just to say I think you sound pretty amazing to be persevering. Things sound like they have improved slightly from the last thread if she now latches on - even just briefly?

Good luck finding an SNS. I don't have one but hopefully this will bump your post a bit and you will find one.

RubyrooUK · 04/06/2013 22:12

Ps. A Google tells me that some people who have used the SNS (there is one for £31 on Amazon by the way, which seems reasonable compared to how much breast pumps cost) also used the Lact-Aid, in case you can track that down. It is am American product but mentioned on UK sites.

beautybox2 · 04/06/2013 22:15

Yes she's starting to accept it! It's giving me hope that she does still want to but there's no milk there instantly for her so she loses interest. When she has naps in our bed she twiddled my nipple as she's drifting off, so maybe it's comforting for her!
I have been using slow flow teats to suppliment her but she's not taking anywhere near as much milk as she used to and never finishes a bottle so I will be going back to fast flow tomorrow as I'm worried she's lost weight
She's having all her bottles snuggled up with me rather than in her hammock/ buggy/ sofa
I really do think a sns will work! Just need to find a cheap one!
Am pumping more than a dairy cow, I'm not going to give up.
:)

Thank you so much for that but 40 is too much for me :( I'm watching one on eBay at the mo there's only one on her, starting at 0.99 postage 3.00. Someone has already bided. This means war, although I do feel abit bad what if the other baby is ill or premature, I've had my chance at breastfeeding iyswim?

Hi there,
I do have one, but would need to see if I can locate it.

Will check and come back to you. Smile

beautybox2 · 04/06/2013 23:27

Ah sorry I missed the bit about 40 quid being too much. Let's hope Badger can find her SNS...hope so. It really does sound like you are making progress, even though it's so slow.

beautybox2 · 05/06/2013 10:38

Bump

crikeybadger · 05/06/2013 13:27

Ok, got it! The only thing wrong with it is that I cooked the clip t hat adjusts the neck strap in the microwave when trying to sterilise it. But this doesn't really matter as you can always tie a knot in it.

How about I loan it to you, rather than sell it....I'm not imagining needing it again, but you never know. Smile

Pm me your address and I'll get it off to you....probably tomorrow now.

Llareggub · 05/06/2013 13:30

Aren't mumsnetters (I'm looking at your, Crikeybadger) amazing?

Good luck beautybox.

RiotsNotDiets · 05/06/2013 13:41

Hooray for Badger what a lovely thing to do Flowers

ChocolateHelps · 05/06/2013 13:43

Have a look at LLL website on breast refusal as there's a list showing the stages of coaxing baby back to the breast

What you pump doesn't show how much milk you have, just how much you can pump. Feeling stressed stops the letdown as adrenaline over rides the oxytocin

Having skin to skin gives her the opportunity to feed without being pressured, can you use a sling to have her on you front skin to skin, so no clothes on for you and nappy and vest & leggings & socks max for her? Then giant shirt over the 2 of you? Can then still look after older child

What about calling LLL helpline? A LLL leader could help brainstorm ideas to help today while you wait for SNS

You sound very determined and both your kids are very lucky to have such a tenacious and problem solving mum! Lots of hugs, be kind to yourself too

RubyrooUK · 05/06/2013 14:21

Hurrah. Good job Badger. Hope it helps, Beauty, let us know! Smile

beautybox2 · 05/06/2013 18:38

Oh wow! Thank you soo much badger! This could be the thing that gets us back on track
Can't believe someone I don't know in person could be so lovely!
That's perfect, I'll give it a go and if it doesn't work at least I can look back and say I tried my hardest :)
Il inbox you my address, and a big thanks to all the support on this thread and my previous one, it means a lot :)

Trying2bMindful · 06/06/2013 23:08

Isn't MN lovely?! Just seen this thread & was going to offer to lend you my SNS!
It was a bit of a faff but worth it.
I can also highly recommend bf in the bath together & co sleeping (without the dummy though)
Good luck.

beautybox2 · 07/06/2013 19:24

Aww thank you trying!
I woke up this morning to a parcel by my door and on the package it said to mumsnetter, I thought that was lovely.
Have had the day at the beach and have hardly pumped so this weekend I will be focusing on DD and getting her latched on, I can't wait to try it :) thanks so much badger
