New hipp organic preparation instructions

Have decided to start giving 5month old, previously ebf ds a bottle at bedtime and chose hipp organic as I would rather he had organic milk with less hormones and toxins etc.

However it has a new formula containing lactic acid cultures and clearly states on the instructions to make up with water at 40-50 degrees c-boiled and then cooled for 35-40 mins

This goes against the advice to use 70 degrees to kill bacteria and also means that feeds def can't be made up in advance and kept in fridge (my preferred 'short cut') if and when he starts having more bottles.

Am in a quandry-do I chose a different formula? Cow and gate was fine for dd but i wasn't aware of hipp then.

Do I make it up to their instructions? Or make it with hotter water and not worry about the lactic acid cultures (whatever they are?!)

Not seen new Hipp instructions as mine youngest is now over a year and on cows milk.

Water only boils at 100 degrees c. So I think Hipp means boiling the water (to 100 c) and then letting it cool till its 50-60c (30 to 40mins or so) and then make formula.

If you were to make it up with hotter water then perhaps the hot water would make the formula go lumpy and not dissolve properly?

I agree that this doesn't go with the 73c advice as that it the temperature which kills most bacteria.

However perhaps the new formula by containing lactic acid which perhaps is modified from the standard lactose that the formula itself doesn't require sterilising so to speak. And therefore doesn't need to be made with water quite so hot?

I am slightly guessing so I would phone Hipp and ask them.

Thank you-just found the thread myself so sorry about posting about it again.

Consensus seems to be to stick to guidelines and sod the friendly bacteria.

Ds will still be predominantly bf for the time being anyway so I don't feel he'll miss out.
