And it's entirely up to breastfeeding, both of them for over two years.

Grin Wink

(Just felt inspired to start this thread as every time research in favour of breastfeeding is quoted the anecdotal evidence is dug out how it's all wrong wrong wrong - with the so-called breastfeeding "mafia" (how I hate that term!!!) pointing out that research is about likelihood and probability. So today I thought "what the heck, I can do it too" Grin)

My great aunt smoked 60 a day, everyday, her whole life and lived to be 125! Smoking kills...? Pah! What a load of rubbish.

SenoraPostrophe · 07/03/2006 20:11

qoq - do you mean the bit about mother guilt? I mean that any mother of, for eg, bottle fed babies who get ill all the time isn't going to post on an "is your child bottle fed and healthy" thread. mothers with chips on their shoulders about it are highly likely to post.

the final comment was ironic because every single one of us feels guilty or has a chip on our shoulder about something.

ignore me, I'm in a funny mood today.

chips a full of fat and not recommended

VeniVidiVickiQV · 07/03/2006 21:25
Shock

Chicagomum!!!! The only thing that is fat with regard to you is the big fat lie you told about not being slim ShockShockShock!

mogwai · 07/03/2006 21:40

there's much to be said for anecdotal evidence.

I heard, anecdotally, that breastfeeding knackers your tits.

So I bottle fed.

mogwai · 07/03/2006 21:40

but now they're knackered anyway

someone was lying

moondog · 07/03/2006 21:41

ooh my tits are gorgeous..better actually after 31/2 years of bfeeding.

handlemecarefully · 07/03/2006 21:43

It does knacker them! - mine are distintly droopy. Still, no matter...it's not like dh and I ever have sex these days Grin

mogwai · 07/03/2006 21:47

I'm losing weight at the moment. It's coming off the old chest first and not the arse. Last time I lost weight, I used to lie the poor things beside me in bed. They were like empty bags Sad

Piffle · 07/03/2006 21:48

31 yrs moondog
RESPECT!
Mine are better as well actually, despite being of a larger variety

turniphead · 07/03/2006 21:49

I have perfect turnip tits - almost as good as the day I got them

moondog · 07/03/2006 21:51

You know my views on optimal nutrition Piffle.
Did I mention that I am 93 and a wet nurse??

VeniVidiVickiQV · 07/03/2006 23:08

(ahem - pregnancy knackers tits not b/feeding)

handlemecarefully · 07/03/2006 23:14

Is that right? How does it 'work' - what's the physiological explanation?

VeniVidiVickiQV · 07/03/2006 23:16

Its to do with the hormone that makes all your joints and ligaments elastic, the ones that allow your pelvis to open more easily for childbirth etc.

VeniVidiVickiQV · 07/03/2006 23:17

as you can see, im no expert on it!!! Blush

turniphead · 08/03/2006 00:29

I've had 3 pregnancies and my boobs ain't knackered - there are again they are only small, maybe that's the key Wink

turniphead · 08/03/2006 00:30

bottle feeder Wink

WellieMum · 08/03/2006 01:31

Yep, now look at my parents, they never wore seatbelts as children, and they survived OK. So obviously, all that stuff about seatbelts saving lives is rubbish.

Sorry, this is a sore point for me. Martianbishop has explained far better than I can, why proper controlled studies give you a less biased picture than everyone sitting around sharing stories (not that I'm knocking the latter, it's a great thing to do).

Mumsnet is useless as a representative sample of the population.

If you're on mumsnet that means you have access to a computer, which suggests in turn that although you might be struggling to pay the bills, you're probably not living in a cardboard box under a bridge. You're also reasonably well educated, because (by definition) you can read and write.

Now, it's a well-known fact that health is strongly related to socio-economic thingies like income and education.

Mumsnetters and their children are almost certainly more healthy than a random sample of the population. So when 5 or 6 (or even 10 or 20) mumsnetters are saying "well, my children are healthy" it proves zip-all about anything - it's just what you would expect.

Please, let's not bury our heads in the sand about possible risks to our children, however hard it may be to accept them.

Klicious · 08/03/2006 04:11

Breast or bottle we all love our babies..

some people cant, some people can, some people
don't want to.
I was lucky I could and wanted to
I felt it was the best thing for my children and me no getting out of bed at 3am in the morning!! Grin
I wasn't breast fed but both my sisters were..
I would have to say that in the long run they have been healthier than me as children
but I'm the sane one Grin

My boobs are pretty perky considering I had two 8lb plus bubs hanging on them for a over a year.. my hubby loves em and so do I.

I say if you can do it then do it if you cant don't beat yourself or anyone else up about it.

carla · 08/03/2006 06:37

B/F dd1: On the large side
Couldn't B/F dd2: skinny as anything and does her 5 a day.

binker · 08/03/2006 17:50

I couldn't breast feed (and I did try to )but I'm proud to say that my son is intelligent, slim and hardly ever ill (thank God)...

koolkat · 08/03/2006 20:47

My 20 month old DS is also in the bf, healthy diet camp.

He has had a mild cold 4 times in his entire life and nothing else, very clever, happy skinny (though he has my chubby round face ; )

I KNOW that this is due to breastfeeding. My nieces and nephews were in and out of the surgery quite often in their first couple of years, suffer from varying degress of asthma, eczema, hey fever, wheezing, etc. Two of them constantly had ear infections.

I am sorry to give anecdotal evidence, but having seen lots of baby illness in my own family, I was very keen to avoid these with my own son.

I have succeeded in this not beacuse I am a super competitive mum or a militant "mafia" nutcase, but beacuse I have breast milk and because my son loves his mummy's milk and we both know what is good for our health Smile

We will breastfeed until the cow's come home [excuse pun]

lars · 08/03/2006 20:56

Who cares!
It is about choice emkana.
Mine were bottle fed and no I don't feel guilty at all. My dd gets ill all my ds doesn't and fights off cold really quickly like his dad. larsxx
