I had to bf on the packed jubilee line today! Man I felt awkward and I've bf in all kinds of places, but surrounded by suits and young men I felt majorly conspicuous! There are no corners to sit on its all open plan! Anyone else bf on tube? Or any funny places you find yourself doing it? Grin

I've bf in the check out queue in Asda (I got offered a chair and had my shopping packed for me) and have bf while walking down the High Street in my town while pushing a shopping laden double pushchair (different babies).

I fed dd (11.5 months) on a car sales forecourt today. She was hot and thirsty and I hadn't got a sippy cup with me so boob was offered and taken like a shot. There must have been about 10 blokes knocking around looking at cars and then the woman with her boob out in the front seat of one Wink

Doesn't bother me where I feed but have started to feel more conscience of her age / size now. Not sure why, just wonder if people are judging me or not, especially as my GP informed me last week that I can stop bf'ing now as she's on solids...Hmm

Kveta · 25/07/2012 20:38

in waterstones today, next to the graphic novels :o and DD was all snorty and spluttery just to make absolutely sure everyone knew what we were up to...

also fed her in the sling at the local fire station open day, as the olympic torch went past, and I was not very discreet about it.

gluttom · 25/07/2012 20:40

ahh i feel the same way godsiaDj i often try to refuse to feed 9.5 month old dd when we are out Sad

Springforward · 25/07/2012 20:42

The viewing area in an MOT garage, packed with young men. No one even blinked! I had got really good at feeding discreetly by then though.

dozensofpichu · 25/07/2012 20:43

I've BF on a train packed full of commuters heading out of London in rush hour. Train was so packed there were no seats, apart from in first class, but I wasn't allowed in there to feed as I didn't have first class ticket! I had to stand in vestibule area with the pram so sat on the floor there to feed DD. Commuters had to climb over us to get to the loo, but train was that packed there was no where else to go. Also BF walking round supermarket doing the weekly shop. I just fed when DD needed it so probably so other unusual places too.

missdeelite · 25/07/2012 20:51

These are fun! Asda check out sounds lovely how sweet they gotACLU a chair! Also love the story of feeding in a car on a showroom godisadj. I used to be really discreet but ds is 7 months and makes loads of noise and gawps around all the time! I know I shouldnt care but when I'm flying solo it feels more difficult! I did on a boat trip too on gold whilst we both had life jackets on!

How rude that you weren't allowed a seat in first class dozens! Asda obviously much more bf welcome!

My ds likes to give me plenty of opportunities to get my boobs out in random places/situations Grin

I must admit though I'm a lot more discreet now than I was in the beginning Wink

dozensofpichu · 25/07/2012 21:00

Yeah I was pretty damn cross to be honest. The conductor did eventually relent after having to clamber over me-but did say if the baby cried I'd have to leave! Shame by this point DD had finished feeding. She was only 4 weeks old and we were coming back from a hospital appointment so I was really at the end of my tether! Had to practice some calm breathing!

GodisaDj · 25/07/2012 21:01

Whenever I do feel a bit 'eek' or would rather not feed in certain situations, I always try to think, if I feed here I'm normalising bf'ing in general. Even if it's just a chip away and someone who hasn't seen a woman bf'ing before, they may remember it and have a discussion with their respective partners when they get home. I'm not bothered so much about what people will say, more that I've personally got my boob out with a large baby hanging off it deciding if they want to have milk or look around! Grin

I also fed whilst in a meeting with our bank manager yesterday. Water from sippy cup wouldn't cut it with dd and she demanded milk by slapping my chest and boob until I gave in. Poor bank manager was very sweet and just pretended nothing was going on despite me only having a vest top on. He may have been relieved that dd wasn't making mess by opening the desk draws and pulling rubbish out of his waste paper bin! Grin

Bert2e · 25/07/2012 21:23

I bf ds2 all the way through doing our mortgage paperwork with the financial advisor - and bumped into him the other day (4 years later) with his new baby and he remembered me doing it and said he loved seeing it and was really lovely and encouraging with his wife Smile He made me feel all warm and fuzzy inside!

midori1999 · 25/07/2012 21:29

I've fed DD while pushing the pram or supermarket trolley and once at the checkout, although she was in wrap and I'm not sure if anyone really realised what I was doing, although I gto some odd looks. (I have found wearing a wrap gets odd looks for some reason, DH says it's because it's 'hippy' Hmm )

I haven't done it, but I've often felt like just getting a boob out, leaning over and feeding DD while she is sat in the supermarket trolley as she is too big to carry and feed while pushing a trolley now as I need two hands to hold her and feed her if I am standing/walking. I can't decide if it would be unreasonable to do this really....

missdeelite · 25/07/2012 21:31

midori maybe u should ask on aibu? Wink

I saw a lady bf a baby in the village square in Glastonbury listening to the folks busking on the cobbles. I so wanted to take photo as lovely sight Blush

LAF77 · 25/07/2012 21:33

I BF DS in his sling walking down the street yesterday. There were plenty of people walking to work at the time. I avoided eye contact. No one could see my nipple, but there was major b

LAF77 · 25/07/2012 21:33

Major boob area on show!

midori1999 · 25/07/2012 21:36

I need to know what that was meant to say LAF

missdeelite, I am tempted, but I suspect I know the answer already, especially as DD is 13 months... I don't think I'd be any the wiser as to whether it was unreasonable or not either anyway.

I might get a ring sling to just pop her in and feed her if I need to.

thezoobmeister · 26/07/2012 11:00

I took my 18 mo on a Ryanair flight some years ago, and once we got into the air she decided it was time to unceremoniously heave both my boobs out. After some minutes of fraught toddler-wrestling, I managed to salvage my dignity by chucking a blanket over both of us. She sat underneath it quite happily like a dog with two bones while the poor bloke next to us sighed loudly and rustled his newspaper ...

Mombojombo · 26/07/2012 13:01

As far as the tube goes - old style Metropolitan and Bakerloo line trains are good - no arm rests to have to prop LO on.

Jubilee is terrible - always busy and chunky armrests to get in the way. I like to feed on the top deck/back seats of the bus (or rather, DS does).

Have also whopped 'em out in a workman's greasy spoon cafe - had to buy a bacon sarnie for me OBVS, just so I had a reason to be there... Fed while giving blood, going round Asda, in changing rooms across the land (DS always has a tantrum if I'm trying on clothes and boob is the master-soother - I'm not hiding out in changing rooms). More recently in the shower on a campsite, behind a sofa waiting for surprise party guest to arrive... Nowhere is sacred...

YoulllaughAboutItOneDay · 26/07/2012 14:12

Oh gosh, loads of places.

On the tube and buses lots of times.

In an 02 shop in front of the salesman whilst DH signed up for a new phone.

In slow moving traffic on the M4 (more than once). Although I wasn't driving, I was wearing my seatbelt and DD was in her carseat. Strong thigh muscles me.

nickelbarapasaurus · 26/07/2012 14:16

i needed to feed dd halfway home from bellydancing (½ an hour drive) i had hoped she would keep till we got home, but she wouldn't go off to sleep and was screaming blue murder.
so i pulled over behind the petrol station (assuming there would be a cafe, but there wasn't) on the dual carriageway and fed her there.
it ws 9 at night and i was under the cctv camera (felt it safest in case dodgy types were around)

KatAndKit · 26/07/2012 15:28

I had to do it in the viewing area of the MOT test station too! To make it even better, my baby decided to do a massive great poonami, the type that requires a full change of clothing, at the same time. No changing stations in MOT test stations and toilet was size of broom cupboard so had to deal with it on the floor in the middle of the reception area. Was mortified!

Paintingmum · 26/07/2012 18:50
