Generally people will recommend Tommee Tippee or Lansinoh - they are both slightly more pricey than supermarket own brands but much better and you can shop on the internet and get them cheaper (try amazon)

BigBoPeep · 03/05/2012 16:22

I find the boots ultra slim disposables very good. was intending to use washables but I get through them far too quick!

Rachelbow · 03/05/2012 16:23

i always thought asda's own were very good tho i don't think anything is absorbent enough to soak up what you leek at night in the 1st few weeks try putting a folded muslin in each side and change after each feed. I used to sometimes wrap myself in a towel too and always had a towel under the sheet.
Good news is it gets better soon x

Pooka · 03/05/2012 16:24

Johnson & Johnson in pink box

Second to none. But lanisoh also good.

Avent are crap as are sainsburys/telcos/boots own.

Rachelbow · 03/05/2012 16:28

never ever by boots large pads they are like carrier bags Shock

notcitrus · 03/05/2012 16:32

Lansinoh are best IME, but you might be better off dealing with oversupply on other ways, like feeding for 8 hours on one side and then the other. The Kellymom website has lots of ideas.

Whenisitmysleepytime · 03/05/2012 16:35

Boots own brand slim ones. They're individually wrapped.
I had mega over supply and could soak through 8 a night quite easily!

Johnsons were crap and I leaked through them. Although not as bad as sainsburys ones.

feekerry · 03/05/2012 17:13

Okay thanks some good ideas there. Does anyone double up on pads or is that a no go? Was thinking of trying that at night but your right dont think any pads will stand up to the night leaking!

another thing i've done is stuck a nappy in each side works but pricey

CravingSleep · 03/05/2012 17:25

Depends how much absorbency you need but I basically "leak" on the other boob to which I am feeding almost as much as I feed! (I used to collect in a cup...)

First choice (and most expensive) lansinoh.
Second choice (slightly cheaper) Tommee Tippee
Completely rubbish (for lots of milk, they would be fine for just a little leaking during the day) supermarket brands and reusable ones.

I found that although lansinoh were expensive they did actually work (a plus) and were reliable for longer. I have just ordered rather a lot from Amazon as they are currently on offer!!

I don't know if the nursing for ages on each breast would work for me as my current problem is that the other breast lets down when I'm feeding. I have a fast let down though but baby is now used to it!

FrillyMilly · 03/05/2012 17:28

I use asda own ones and have for 14 weeks (I have oversupply so leak a lot all day). I tried tommee tippee one but found them really scratchy. The asda ones are so soft and really absorbent. You can get twice as many for the same price as the branded ones

notjustamummythankyou · 03/05/2012 17:30

Another one for lansinoh! Just bought 2 boxes for £3-odd each on Amazon. Bargainous.

feekerry · 03/05/2012 20:27

okay, i have the tommie ones at the moment and have a box of asda ones in the drawer so can try those too. love the nappy idea, might have to give that a go tonight! the other thing i find is that the breast pads seem to move at night when i turn over (even the tommie ones with the little sticky pad) which makes the leakage worse. might try sellotape them on or something!

have had a look re over supply/fast let down and think i might try some of the tips on the kelly mom website. i've started to notice my baby coughs/splutters and has milk dribbiling out sometimes so presume over supply/fast let down applies to me.

my baby sleeps really well at the moment so its a real shame i'm getting woken up by my leaking breasts instead!!!!!

If you get a let down in the other side when feeding, press firmly onto nipple with side of you wrist for about 30 seconds, this will usually inhibit the letdown and stop any leaking. Obviously you can't o this while sleeping :)

DeathMetalMum · 03/05/2012 20:46

Jhonson and jhonson were the only one that worked for me didnt try the lanishol(sp) ones though tried pretty much every supermarket brand etc and I leaked a lot. Started using boots reusables when dd was about 5 months i think, it saved me a bomb I still occasionally need to use breast pads now and dd is 15 months :( so have been wel worth their money.

Elly1801 · 03/05/2012 20:59

I leaked lots (very responsive and fast letdown) with all three of mine and with my third I discovered Lilypadz (from Boots). They're expensive silicon reusable breast pads and work by creating a pressure vacuum (thereby imitating the pressure of your wrist/fingers/hand and steming the flow. I was a bit cynical but hated the feel of the itchy paper ones (like having a sanitary pad stuck to my boobs!). I ended up buying two sets so i had a spare. They just need washed and rinsed a few times a day with Ecover or similar gentle washing-up, I looked after them and they lasted until my babe was around 6 months and I didn't need them. They also kept my nipples in better condition, and I ditched the Lansinoh (found it too moist otherwise)! Just expressed a little milk onto a sore nipple if I had one and let that dry. Hope that helps!

PinkElephant73 · 03/05/2012 21:16

i had a major oversupply problem which was worst when feeding as would leak from the other boob. Using a sterilised breast shell (Boots, Mothercare etc sell them) on the other side helped, I would then pour the contents into a bm storage bag and freeze. during the night, would not bother sterilising and storing the milk, just poured it away. I was leaking about a pint a day at one point! using the shells for feeds, I then found that between feeds, pads would last a bit longer but still only a couple of hours at a time.
the pampers drynite sheets are also a good idea to save your mattress...

poppy283 · 05/05/2012 09:17

Anything other than lansinoh doesn't deserve to call itself a breast pad imo! Well worth the extra money as ll cheaper brands would literally last about 15mins.
Have you got nipple shells too? They're a faff to empty when quite full though, but good for saving all that extra milk.

fapl · 09/05/2012 21:13

Lilypadz didn't work for me. The milk would start to build up behind the silicone shell then gush out at once, it may be worth a try as obviously they do work for others.

When my oversupply was really bad I used breast shells on the opposite side to the one I was feeding on, only ok at home really, too difficult to empty when out and about.

milkandnosugar · 10/05/2012 17:27

Feel your pain! Lansinoh in at no1 spot then tommee tippee no2. (after 9 months I am sick to death of opening plastic bags in the middle of the night, esp lansinoh who wrap pads individually).
It does get better; at one stage I was wearing two tommee tippees at a time.

feekerry · 10/05/2012 21:36

second getting sick of opening plastic wrappers at some stupid hour!!!

lansinoh ones ordered and on there way, tried tommee tippee this week. they were okay as larger but still seem to have a problem at night where my boobs must move when i turn over in sleep and the pad doesnt sit in the right position and then i leak loads. my bra fits well so must just be one of those things. currently have the cheaper asda ones over my nipple with the tommee tippee ones on top for an extra bit of protection. may resort to nappies tonight!!!

FriskyBivalves · 10/05/2012 21:44

Lansinoh sorted me out - they're good because they're bigger than most in terms of diameter but still impressively thin. I had some success with MAM/Dodie ones as they do two different thicknesses for day and night. But they're quite difficult to find...

NightLark · 11/05/2012 02:24

lansinoh all the way here. Though having just gone back to work I've had to leave early twice to go and change my top as I've leaked right through them. That'll learn me to leave baby while I go and earn a living (she's 11 months). But lilypadz used to get blown off due to the milk damming up behind them and all other brands just turn into wet rags in an hour or two.

buterflies · 11/05/2012 12:19

I use Tommee Tippee but think I will swap to Lasinoh after all the comments on here. Johnsons are ok for day time but too small for night as they slip about too much

waddleandtoddle · 11/05/2012 12:38

Lasinoh are the only ones that worked for me. I had excessive let down for months and was soooooo relieved the day it stopped!I got a job lot of these from Waitrose as they have a third off baby stuff and was surprised to see them so cheap.

My other life saver was Medela breast cups. They caught all my letdown, were easy to empty and never leaked. You can get these very easily online, but never seen them in shops. Honestly the best bf device I bought.
