Complete Breastfeeding Set?

KellyKettle · 20/03/2012 14:59

I just had a link for this in an MN email:

www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B004U8C1W8/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&tag=mumsnet&linkCode=as2&camp=1634&creative=19450&creativeASIN=B004U8C1W8

Is it just me or does it look like a complete bottle feeding set?

Everything you need? AMAZON IS ADVERTISING TITS???

KellyKettle · 20/03/2012 15:31

You're right, there is one big thing needed to complete the set (or two things of various sizes).

I don't normally bother with things like this but it just shocked me for some reason.

As if you need to spend £200 to successfully breastfeed. Had it been called bottle feeding set, expressing set then yes. And the idea that if you bf then you automatically must express bothers me too.

Gawd - I had some pads, and three bottles.

Was given a pump (barely ever used as she wouldn't take the above mentioned bottles)

Total cost, 15 quid or so (used a steamer as a steriliser)

MooncupandPizza · 20/03/2012 15:34

Yeah, that's a bit annoying!

ReallyTired · 20/03/2012 15:36

£200 seems a little steep. I suppose such a kit might be useful if you are going back to work early and plan to express.

I liked the avent ISIS pump, have never tried an electric pump.

stinkybumsmum · 20/03/2012 15:53

Boobs, breast pads and nipple cream! What else could you want Grin

notcitrus · 20/03/2012 15:58

That is ridiculous, and I actually own most of that lot!
That pump can be had for £50, though when I packed DP off to get one in an emergency it was more like £80; sterilisers are on Freecycle daily (and I used a saucepan for a while), and bottles, storage cups etc aren't that expensive.

I certainly spent over £200 though getting to bf ds, with shedloads of breast pads, cushions, shells to collect milk, and travel to bf help sources. I'm very glad that I can now use the Breast Friend cushion and the pump again with dd - so this time it's only the cost of another few 100 breast pads and a couple new bottles.

KellyKettle · 20/03/2012 16:04

Its not a breastfeeding kit though is it? I'd be put off bf if I thought I needed all that to do it.

My MIL bought me a medela pump. My DD1 was like your Norma never wanted a bottle so it stayed in the cupboard for DD2.

stinkybumsmum yes, thats a bf kit! Much cheaper & nipple cream is great on dry elbows & knees so multiple uses Smile

bf kit for me would be breast pads, lansinoh, pillow, muslin cloths, feeding bra.
and maybe a contraption for my arm, so that I can hold DD for hours at a time supported instead of aching. Grin

Bramshott · 20/03/2012 16:08

"everything you need to start breastfeeding your baby" Confused
Hmm

SardineQueen · 20/03/2012 16:23

Come on though a steriliser is a vital piece of kit.

I always ensured that my breasts were thoroughly sterilised before I fed my children.

nickelhasababy · 20/03/2012 16:31
Grin

i really did just laugh out loud at that! Grin]

i just hold my boobs over the kettle when it's boiling. For the full 10 minutes.
that's the next best thing to a proper sterilizer. (and they've been doing that for centuries)

EauRouge · 20/03/2012 17:38

I've been doing pretty well with just a couple of boobs. Just one would do, in fact.

SardineQueen · 20/03/2012 18:01

I like to sterilise my boobs, then put some gloves on and hand-express into a bottle, and feed my child directly from that.

I find it so much more sophisticated than the frankly rather neanderthal "direct from the source" method.

It takes 14 x as long but I feel that's a price worth paying, to make sure I get the full use out of my breastfeeding "pack" Smile

Mombojombo · 20/03/2012 18:17

Ladies, just pop a Milton tablet in the bath - cheaper than a bath bomb, with the added bonus of sterilising your own personal Complete Breastfeeding Kit...

marshmallowpies · 20/03/2012 18:22

nocitrus - where can you get an electric pump for £50? I already have a nearly new sterilizer, and the cheapest I've seen the pump for is around £80, bottles around £15 for a set - so will be shelling out around £100 for that lot, if I do decide/end up expressing as well as BFing.

SardineQueen · 20/03/2012 18:36

I used to enjoy bathing with DD1.

Until one day she realised that my boobs were >>> just THERE.

So that had to stop.

EauRouge · 20/03/2012 19:48

The complete bottle-feeding kit is £80 cheaper. Hmm

KellyKettle · 20/03/2012 20:02

Rofl at milton tablets in the bath Grin

My FIL used to bath DH in dettol

KellyKettle · 20/03/2012 20:02

Oh my! Shock

What's the difference? No pump?

OP posts:
ElephantsAreMadeOfElements · 20/03/2012 20:04

I just detach my breasts and run them through the dishwasher on a hot cycle.

littleducks · 20/03/2012 20:06

I'm shocked at that. I bfed two dc for a combined total of 3 years, I spent about £20 on 'accessories' one pack of washable breast pads and one tube of lasinon cream.

QueenOfFlippingEverything · 20/03/2012 20:11

Its actually chepaer to buy the bottlefeeding kit and the breastpump separately Hmm

[whaddaloadashite]

SardineQueen · 20/03/2012 20:38

Lansinoh is quite expensive, TBF. But my word it lasts!
