Complete Breastfeeding Set?

I just had a link for this in an MN email:

www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B004U8C1W8/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&tag=mumsnet&linkCode=as2&camp=1634&creative=19450&creativeASIN=B004U8C1W8

Is it just me or does it look like a complete bottle feeding set?

I am a bit Hmm about them having aloe vera in their lanolin as well.

SardineQueen · 20/03/2012 20:42

I am extremely suspicious of their "nipple cream". It has coconut oil and aloe vera in it and it "contains" lanolin. Now I think the lanolin is the expensive bit so guessing there aint much in there. And I wouldn't want my newborn chowing down on aloe vera and coconut oil Hmm

marshmallow Sainsburys sold pumps for 50 quid a couple years ago, just after I'd got dp to go to Mothercare.
Ebay should be able to get you a bargain one.i

marshmallowpies · 21/03/2012 10:43

Thanks nocitrus - I have searched eBay for pumps but not found many yet (and a friend told me that they get so clogged up with milk you wouldn't really want to use a second-hand one?)

Will have a look on Sainsbury's & Tesco online, though. My friend got the full kit including sterilizer for a very low cost from Babies R Us before Christmas - well under £100 as far as I remember - but that must have been an exceptionally good pre-Xmas offer as it's certainly not there now...

notcitrus · 21/03/2012 10:51

Don't know about the clogging with milk - my Avent electric was used approx daily for 9 months, then later 3x daily for 6 months by a friend, and now I've used it a few times again and it's just fine.

mrssweetpotato · 21/03/2012 10:54

Shocked! I may have spent that much on bf friendly tops, bras, & breast pads but someone gave me a pump and steriliser, I never used them. Boobs are so much easier! First time parents are sitting ducks for this kind of thing. Grrrr Angry

nickelhasababy · 21/03/2012 11:05

my sister gave me a sterilizer and bottles (she FF and it was no longer required).

i took it out of the box once when i thought it might be worth learning to express.
took one look at it, decided it was too complicated, so just pulled out a bottle and boiled the kettle.
that first bottle sat in the jug of boiling water all afternoon and i never did get round to expressing.

marshmallowpies · 21/03/2012 11:12

mrssweetpotato - I haven't paid out for the pump yet precisely because I don't want to get fleeced for something I may not end up using, but having seen a friend go through complete agony (screaming with pain when baby was on the breast), and having her sanity & boobs saved by expressing, I don't want to exclude the possibility of expressing either!

Also my DH is keen to do his share of feeding duty so I think he's quite keen we get the pump and bottles. Obviously I plan to BF exclusively in the early days, but if he wants to get up at 5am to do a feed & let me slumber...well, I'm open to the idea, let's say!

choceyes · 21/03/2012 11:24

How utterly ridiculous!!

Bluestocking · 21/03/2012 11:36

I thought the same thing - isn't it amazing how an advanced capitalist society tries to make us imagine that we have to spend money to do something that's COMPLETELY FREE in order to do it properly? What next? Complete Breathing Kit?

Kveta · 21/03/2012 11:37

I'm so glad others are shocked at this product! It was on offer with the amazon black friday deals last year too, and I was Shock at it then too!

I think a complete bfing kit would include:
nursing bras
lansinoh (or camillosan)
some washable breast pads
a copy of The Food of Love
a nice pillow
lots of cake and chocolate.

what else, apart from a newborn, do you need?!

nickelhasababy · 21/03/2012 11:43

ooh, can you buy newborns on amazon too?

that would save a lot of trouble!

Kveta · 21/03/2012 11:46

oh god, if only! I'd be opting for the more expensive, but guaranteed to sleep occasionally in the first 3 years model this time! :o

Bluestocking · 21/03/2012 12:05

My complete BF kit would include a newborn, and I might spring for the top-of-the range model this time. You know, the one that only wakes every four hours to feed - my sister had that one and when I got my economy model (does the opposite - feeds and twirls about for four hours, then catches a quick ten-minute catnap while I fell into a zombie trance) I really wished I'd shelled out for a more expensive model. Plus a house robot who brings a nicely prepared cup of decaf tea and a small bowl of dried apricots at regular intervals.

EauRouge · 21/03/2012 12:28

Well done to everyone that's been leaving reviews, hopefully it will reassure new parents that they don't need to fork out for all this stuff.

KellyKettle · 22/03/2012 15:37

Oh I missed all this!!

Off to read reviews Smile

Just been on Amazon and this popped up again. They've now changed the name to 'breastfeeding support set' and lowered the price- still more expensive than the bottle feeding kit though Hmm.

There are even more negative reviews on there now Grin
